Up for sale: Beautiful newel post. Measures 55 inches high and 9 inches at widest point. It is 6 inches at the narrowest point. The finial is 6 inches high. A lot of work went into building this one. Salvaged from large house built at the turn of century. Quite sound. Does have some wear from a century of use. P art of it looks to have been panted many deca des ago. One of the nicer newels we have found. Quite majestic. And quite heavy. Shipping quote is for Federal Express. We can also ship for about $49 through Greyhound if you have a terminal nearby. From our experience it takes about a week to get to your terminal. They call you and give you 2 or 3 days to come and pick up. They charge a small fee for storage after that. Our terminal here charges 50 cents a day for storage after a few days. Thanks for looking

Up for auction are four architectural& gardening building or fencing finials recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. They are all found in good used condition. One side is opened, as seen in photo#4. The other side is closed, as seen in photo#3. I think they would make great towel racks, or any other repurposing projects you have in mind. They have remnants of the original paint as well and measures approximately 7 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 3" in size. Quite primitive and very decorative as late 19th early 20th Century cast iron pieces. This is a beautiful cast metal eagle. This is a finial/arhitectural piece that dates to the late 1800's/early 1900's. The piece stands approximately 18.75" high. The base of this is approximately 5.5" square. Finely detailed the wings and head have feathers that look real. The talons are wrapped around what looks like a rock. Each talon has multiple lines giving it life like qualities as well. The front of the eagle has a finely feather detailed chest with a well defined beak and eyes. Gold gilt paint makes this piece a beautiful architectural item. This could be used to accent an exterior column on a house or as a finial at the top of a staircase. Antique Copper Architectural Flower Finial
A wonderfully detailed Architectural Finial with a floral design. The finial is made of copper with a fantastic patina and was used on the top of a building as decoration. Found in the Philadelphia. Pennsylvania area it dates from the mid to late 19th century. The finial stands 37" tall. One of the bottom pedals is partially missing and the stem has a crack in it. Antique HUGE Carved Old Paint 1/2 ROUND VICTORIAN Architectural FINIAL Pediment ANTIQUE ARCHITECTURAL FINIAL DECORATION Wonderful antique large solid wood Victorian 1/2 round finial decoration measuring approximately 11" wide and 6" tall. Featuring an orb shape made from building layers of carved wood into a round form. It bears the original old weathered gray paint. Once a complete pediment ball, probably mounted to a stand or base, it retains part of the original wooden peg threaded through the back opening which would have held the two pieces together. Condition is good with lots of paint wear. Rubbing and loss as shown- stable age related wood shrinkage cracks, and general shabbiness from age- love it! I've always used this as a piece of architectural art- it makes an interesting statement standing alone on a table top or ... moregrouped with other unusual shapes. Has a maximum width of 4.75 inches and the base measures 1.5 inches across. Inner square opening is 1-1/ 5" of an inch x 1-1/ 5" of an inch. Condition is great; there is random light rust. But no ob vious damage. It is pewter-tone. I don't know how old it is. I've owned it for approximately 12 yea rs. Having purchased it from an antique shop. Antique Soldered Tin Folk Art Cupola Architectural Roof Ornament Flame Finial
This auction is for another great example of the 19th century tin nockers art. This Cupola is made from soldered galvinized tin and sports a really nice flame finial on top. The dimensions are 15-1/4" square and 20-1/2" tall. It is in very good structural condition with a heavy layer of multiple coats of paint the paint has flaked off in many areas revealing the historic record of previous colors.and the galvanic zinc. This will make a great roof, garden or house ornament. It can be attached directly to a flat roof or a wood base can be simply made to saddle a gable pitched roof. There are some tiny holes(visable in photos) these are from incomplete solder joints when it was made and a few in the flame are from the metal being stretched and work hardened when it was made. they are not rust holes.

I'm fairly certain that it is made of brass, which would lead one to believe it has to do with a fireplace. Antique Architectural Federal Style Folk Art Hand Carved Eagle Pediments Finials
For your Federal Style Country Manse we have a Set of Two Antique Architectural Federal Style Folk Art Hand Carved Eagle Pair Pediment Finials from the late 1700's- early 1800's. These were recently mounted on iron stands for display. Using the original holes which go through from the top to the bottom in two places on each pair to host the iron rods that they are now fixed onto. Fairly substantial in size, each of these facing eagles actually measures 10" high x 13 1/2" wide x 1 1/4" deep(thick) and are ready for display on these stands that bring them up to 13" tall. Together they weigh 8 pounds 3.5 ounces including the iron stand. They show their age from alligatored varnish and a deepened patina to the wood. These look like they may have been painted over at one time. And have been dry scraped to remove the ... morepaint. They have cracks too, but not any that diminish their aesthetic value. The wood is a very dense, hard wood which appears to be either butternut or chestnut, neither of which is easy to come by any more. In 1870 there was a blight that wiped all the chestnut trees, with only a few coming back today, so since that time, chestnut has been very scarce. And with butternut wood, so many of those trees were logged off, and being such a slow growing tree, you don't see too many of them anymore unless on new plantations. Hand carved eagle figures are still considered the epitome of collectible American folk art pieces and are generally associated with the Federal style era in architectural design. Which is a period that ranges from 1780 to 1830, appearing most commonly on frames, furniture, building ornamentation, and as motifs throughout the making of textiles and American advertising ephemera. GORGEOUS ANTIQUE GILT WOOD EMBELLISHMENT CARVED ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE 7 "
This is a BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE gilt wood embellishment measuring 7 inches. As you can see in the photos. It has beautiful depth and carving detail to it. The gilding is still beautiful. There are no cracks or chips. I don't know what kind of wood is under the gilt because it has a thin veneer on the back for mounting, which makes it hard to see the wood, it is very heavy for its size.
