Up for sale: Beautiful newel post. Measures 55 inches high and 9 inches at widest point. It is 6 inches at the narrowest point. The finial is 6 inches high. A lot of work went into building this one. Salvaged from large house built at the turn of century. Quite sound. Does have some wear from a century of use. P art of it looks to have been panted many deca des ago. One of the nicer newels we have found. Quite majestic. And quite heavy. Shipping quote is for Federal Express. We can also ship for about $49 through Greyhound if you have a terminal nearby. From our experience it takes about a week to get to your terminal. They call you and give you 2 or 3 days to come and pick up. They charge a small fee for storage after that. Hi there. This is a Vintage Architectural Salvage Cast Aluminum Finial Top that measures 17" tall x 15" wide corner to corner. This piece has no damages and is very solid. It is constructed of a very thick aluminum and has black paint that shows a natural patina. It appears it may have been hinged on one side as there are 2 molded brackets with cotter keys in them and a small hole on the opposite side. A very unusual architectural piece of salvage. It measures 20 1/4 from outside flat edge to opposite flat edge side with a 13 1/4 inch opening. The piece is 3 1/2 inches thick. There are wooden dowel pins on 3 sides. See photo. Not sure what it was used for. Piece weighs almost 7 pounds and 14 ounces. Made of a hardwood, not sure what type though. 1896 Architectural Salvage ZINC Victorian Roof Top Finial turret Cap Corbal
Very interesting piece of Victorian architectural salvage. Circa 1896. I have a photograph that shows this piece as it once was, on the top corner of a building on a Main Street in Michigan. The piece was on top of the building in the corner. Originally there was two of these on the building. The brick building was once in Armada Michigan, on their main street. Years ago, about 40, the building caught on fire, and a friend of mine got this piece in the wreckage. The piece was not damaged by the fire. No signs of smoke or odor. My friend has had the piece in storage all this time. The piece would make a great wall hanging. It is a one of a kind piece, in all my years of buying salvage, this is my only roof piece. Vintage Lot 4 Walnut Turned Finials Furniture End Caps Salvage Architectural Parts We’re offering this Lot of 4 Vintage Walnut Turned Finial Furniture End Caps. Circa 1930-40s. They are solid walnut& measure 8 ¾”L. Have decorative turned design with 2 ¼” base& 1 ¼” collar. The 2 ½” body elongates up to a ¾” diameter spire with 1 ¼” knob cap. Each has a 1”L x ½” diameter dowel post for insert to furniture. These ornate finials were originally on top of a rather impressive old barrister cabinet and flanked across the top between 2 crowns. Unfortunately the cabinet was lost in a hurricane decades ago but the finials were salvaged& in very nice condition for age. They have a natural finish& show little wear with exception to some aged varnish craze on surface& hopefully you can see in the ... more1 photo shows oxidation on back side where sat against wall for many years. They have been wiped down& rubbed with some lemon oil to refresh the wood grain. We note no warp in the 4& great replacement parts to restore a china cabinet; on top of bed frame head/baseboard as short posts, or even to sit on table mixed in with other finial collection& smalls for your room décor. They can be painted any color& distressed for that shabby cottage look. We recommend using some type of prop if sitting upright on table surface as they are top heavy& dowel is short narrow. This is a BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE gilt wood embellishment measuring 7 inches. As you can see in the photos. It has beautiful depth and carving detail to it. The gilding is still beautiful. There are no cracks or chips. I don't know what kind of wood is under the gilt because it has a thin veneer on the back for mounting, which makes it hard to see the wood, it is very heavy for its size. Cannonball(style) looks like an ancient Maritime- shipyard rope bollard or heavy duty column gate fence finial. Iron or concrete Newel topper. Something you'd also see on quay, ship or dock. It is semi-hollow with a neck and base having 4 prongs suggesting embedding in concrete. Don't know. Height 7" Width 4.5" Weight 4 Lbs. Weathered a long time with absolutely gorgeous patina and the elements of time only enhance its genuine character. It is clean and has no flakiness or grit. These are a couple of old round wood finials. Both 5 3/4 tall(without screw) And 1 is 3 1/2 round, and the other is 3" round. 1 has a screw and not the other. Both in great shape with the exception of the normal splitting of age. Raw solid wood, never been stained.

The top is missing and some of the base has broken off. But this is still a very unique piece. These were removed from a residence built in 1855 and was the very first masonry residence ever built in Dekalb county. IL. The home was designed and built in the Renaissance Revival Style.
