I'm pretty sure it is the top of a victorian gas street ... morelantern, but I took it of a cupola on a old garage roof years ago. It is very solid and could definitely be used in a building project, but I've been using for a garden decoration. Heavy gauge copper, very solid, no corrosion holes but a few dings here and there, and is missing one of the fancy corner decorations. The actual top finial part is slightly cocked, it probably could be bent back, but that would be up to the new owner if they chose. The base measures about 16.5" square, and the total hight is about 17". I only ship on wednesday morning. Thank you for looking.

A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! Vintage or probably just older big clay finial for decoration.look like an acorn to me. But it could also be an artichoke or a pineapple.large, textural, makes an interesting object in home or garden decoration. This is a hollow piece.you can see from the photo showing the insides that it is a clay or pottery material. The texture is rough, looks like it was unmolded and then it was not brushed smooth- but perhaps that was the intent to give it a natural look. Dimensions are 12" high and 7" wide at the base. Would look great in a number of places- garden, porch, inside the home.especially placed with other like items. This piece can easily be painted. Condition is very good.as I said it is rough, so don't expect a smooth texture, there is a tiny chip(maybe 1/4" large) on the base.hardly noticeable. This is fairly heavy ... morefor its size- it's 6 lb, 9 oz- but that is good so wherever you place it, say in the garden, the wind won't easily knock it over. Good decorator piece- very versatile. 7 Antique Cast Aluminum Fence Post Spike Finials - Metal Garden Architectural
Approx. 10 1/2" long. These 7 old fence finials are in very good condition with no damage. Two of them have an attachment still intact. One of which has 3 threaded openings and it can be unscrewed to remove it from the finial. The other I am unable to remove by hand. Great spike design. A lot of potential with these pieces.
