I would think that these street light pole finial caps are meant to fit over a octagon street light pole that is 3 3/4" on the outside of each of the four pairs of flat sections. Has a maximum width of 4.75 inches and the base measures 1.5 inches across. Inner square opening is 1-1/ 5" of an inch x 1-1/ 5" of an inch. Condition is great; there is random light rust. But no ob vious damage. It is pewter-tone. I don't know how old it is. I've owned it for approximately 12 yea rs. Having purchased it from an antique shop. They are 3" long full length. The square ends are about an inch of that length. They stick into some type of rod for curtains, I think, or could be used for crafts, costuming, garden decor or what have you. The imagination reels at the possibilities. Or you could use these for curtain rods like I think they were supposed to be. I love things Frenchy looking or Frenchy feeling. Use these for Paris Apartment decorating. Lavish, chic, it all comes to mind, but yes, if you can find the right size curtain rod these would be grand.

There is some flaking of the black paint and rust where there is bare metal. Nine of the bases have their set screws. One base is missing its set screw. End finials were washed in hot soapy water.
