Up for auction are four architectural& gardening building or fencing finials recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. They are all found in good used condition. One side is opened, as seen in photo#4. The other side is closed, as seen in photo#3. I think they would make great towel racks, or any other repurposing projects you have in mind. They have remnants of the original paint as well and measures approximately 7 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 3" in size. Quite primitive and very decorative as late 19th early 20th Century cast iron pieces. I am not sure if this is a finial or not but that is all I can deduct it must be- it is a bird/ stork/ heron with a screw bottom and made of cast iron I think it stands 3" tall and at its widest point is 2 3/4" the paint has some minor wear to it but over all it is very nice and great details.

HUGE cast iron Finial from the Connecticut State Capitol building. A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! These finials were rebuilt as the fragile nature of the iron made them easy to break or crack. A professional welder rebulit three pieces. cast iron Finial from the Connecticut State Capitol building. A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! NOT ROTTED JUST HAS 100 YEARS OF WEATHERED WEAR. IT IS COMPLETE AS YOU CAN SEE THE BRACKET AT BASE. IT DOES STAND UP ON ITS OWN BUT YOU CAN EASILY MAKE A MORE STABLE STAND FOR IT OR PUT IT ON A POST FOR AN UNUSUAL GARDEN PIECE. NO CRACKS NO REPAIRS. METAL IS NOT WEAK OR THIN. Cast iron Finial from the Connecticut State Capitol building. A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! I was using these finials in landscape garden beds- they have a great look to them. SELLING THIS PIECE AS IS- ONE BROKEN FLOWER! The finial measures 36" tall x 12" wide x 2 7/8" thick. Antique Pair of Eagle Finials Up for your consideration are these very nice antique eagle finials. There are two sizes: the largest is a standing eagles with wings partially spread. Head turned to the right, standing on a small dome. I think it made be brass or a pot metal, it is not magnetic. I am uncertain if this has been painted over with gold paint at one time, where the paint is chipped I can see the feathers in more detail.would probably look very nice when it is striped. There are cracks in the legs right were the legs begin, they are slightly wobbling but are still intact, should be reinforced. This is actually very nice.measures 6 1/4" tall, wing spread is 6" wide, base has a 2" diameter.
