Outstanding Antique English Decorated Glass & Silverplated Biscuit Box c.1880
One of the most decorative and unusual examples I have had in some time. The type we are always on the look out for but come across less and less. The beautifully engraved and etched glass has a really attractive design and is topped by a silverplated lid with a beautiful Rose engraved continuous garland. The glass sits in it's own stand with a shaped base and again with a floral and foliate engraved decoration. Standing on three bun feet, the underside reveals the full silversmith's mark for John Gallimore of Sheffield, and dating to around 1880. Quite stunning and in excellent condition. Antique English Cut Glass and Silverplate Covered Biscuit Jar 19th C. Charming barrel-shaped cut and engraved glass biscuit jar. With silver plated top and handle. The jar is cut with a ring of starbursts and is engraved with flowers and leaves. The base is rose cut. The silverplate top has some illegible pseudo-hallmarks. From the shape of the marks and the style of the jar, I judge that this biscuit jar is English, from the second half of the 19th century, circa 1875. The biscuit jar is 8 inches tall with the handle up(6 1/2 inches with the handle down) by 5 inches wide. It weighs 1 lb 12 oz(shipping weight 3 lbs) Excellent condition. No chips or cracks. The tray and hinged lid are made from EPNS or Electro-Plated Nickel Silver and again. Beautifully decorated with fine engraved decoration. The lid alone weighs 3.5 oz. and is SOLID Sterling Silver. The Cut Crystal Jar has a diameter of 4 inches and stands 3 ½ inches tall. A fabulous late Victorian biscuit box or barrel dating to around 1890. The box itself is made from a hefty piece of crystal with a deep square cut and a star cut on the underside. The box stands in the original stand with an engraved Greek Key design. The underside has the makers initials and EP for Electro Plated. The collar. Lid and swing handle are also made from silver plate. Antique English Uranium Glass Biscuit Cracker Jar Silverplate Lid Orange Flora Lovely 19th century antique opaque/uranium art glass biscuit or cracker jar. Glass color is a pale minty green in natural light. And has a bright green glow under black light. Decorated with orange blossoms. Brown leaves and gold trim. Silverplate collar and lid have English hallmarks used by Deykin& Sons. Birmingham. Business established in 1781 as gilt button makers. Production of electroplated ware introduced in 1854. Succeeded by Deykin& Harrison in 1895. Metal may have had a gold wash originally- the coloring is a faint gold with some vintage patina- dark silver/gray ring on lid around finial and dark silver/gray spotting near areas where handle attached to collar. I did not try to polish. Selling as found. Stands 5 3/4" tall to top of collar ... morerim. 8 1/2" when handle raised. Stands just under 6 7/8" tall to top of finial on lid when covered. No chips or cracks found in glass. I find a little wear to gold outline trim on brown leaves and stems and gold band near base. I have taken several photos and these provide additional description. Antique Silver Footed Biscuit Jar with Lid and Frosted Glass Insert - English
This beautiful reticulated silverplate holder for a frosted glass cookie jar or biscuit jar was purchased by my Mother for my Dad's cookies. It's a very pretty frosted glass jar that sits in an English silverplate holder with claw feet and a lid. The markings on the bottom of the silverplate base are HA EA FA and EPNS. There are also some hand scratched markings that look like xx 9L or 76 xx. I'm not sure what these mean. The silver is in great condition although could stand a better polishing. There are 3 claw feet and a Diamond shape for engraving. on the side. No chips or cracks although a couple of small blemishes on the glassware. The lid also has a 1 marked inside. The jar is 5 1/2" in diameter. The whole piece 8" tall and the diameter of the base is 7" Such a pretty piece and so useful! Antique English Etched Glass Biscuit Barrel Jar Silver Hallmarks Engraved Plate
This is a beautiful old biscuit barrel or biscuit jar from England. It has many hallmarks on it. And I am unable to decipher them. The first is W.H. in an oval. The next may be the"and" sign(ampersand) The third is an"S" The sixth and seventh appear to be"M.P. in a shield over a circular encased"A" I am not sure about any of this. I tried to photograph as close as possible. On the other side of the metal rim is an engraved number which appears to be 275167. This may have been an identifying number in case of theft. The jar is heavily etched with ferns and other floral sprigs. The metal lid is engraved with various etched leaves, ivy, and birds. The jar measures about 6 1/2" tall with the handle down and 9" with the handle up. It is about 5 1/4" wide at its most bulbous part and about 3 1/2" ... morewide at the opening. It came from a lady that lived almost all her life in London. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or damage other than the multiple shelf scratches typically seen on the bottom of old glass pieces that have been moved around when not on a doily. I assume that the lid, handle and rim are plated silver, but do not know for sure. It is quite heavy for its size. Shipping will be $12.00 in US and actual shipping cost intl. Thanks for looking!
