In the harder to find OVAL form. Three pieces: the silverplate holder/base with swing handle, the silverplate lid(with finial) with foliate decoration and the cut glass oval insert. Four ball feet and orb at top of swing arm. Measures about 7 3/4" x 5 5/8" and 9 1/4" tall to the top of the swing arm orb. CONDITION: Antique item. No problems with silverplate. Just a touch of tarnish in a few spots and some fine scratches typical of antique silverplate. The glass insert has a series of losses along the upper rim. Most are noticeable with the lid off. From the shape of the marks and the style of the jar, I judge that this biscuit jar is English, from the second half of the 19th century, circa 1875. This stunning mid to late 1800s jar features a beautiful quilted pink glass pattern in a stain finish with a silver-plated lid. Silverplate lid is by W. R. Rogers and is in nice condition. Very attractive antique Victorian biscuit jar. Clear glass with hand applied white and gold trim/ décor. No maker mark. But the inside of the lid is hand engraved several times"X30" I don't know if the marks are from an owner, or maker.Measures about 10 1/2" with the handle up straight. Glass color is a pale minty green in natural light. And has a bright green glow under black light. Decorated with orange blossoms. Brown leaves and gold trim. Silverplate collar and lid have English hallmarks used by Deykin& Sons. Birmingham. Business established in 1781 as gilt button makers. Production of electroplated ware introduced in 1854. Succeeded by Deykin& Harrison in 1895. Metal may have had a gold wash originally- the coloring is a faint gold with some vintage patina- dark silver/gray ring on lid around finial and dark silver/gray spotting near areas where handle attached to collar.
