The glass jar is beautifully cut with scrolling flowers and vines. The glass work is really well done. It was probably done by Hawkes. Sinclaire or one of the better quality American glass companies. The sterling silver lid is engraved with flowers, scrolls and leaves surrounding the old original monogram of RBW in a fancy script. The jar was made around the turn of the century. The jar is not marked. We have tested the lid with nitric acid and guarantee it to be sterling silver. It is unusual that the top is not marked sterling. But it is definitely sterling. The condition is excellent. There are no dents. No splits, no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no ... morerepairs. The jar measures 3 1/4 inches in diameter at the rim and 3 3/4 inches tall. This elegant powder jar has a tapered panel cut glass body topped by a sterling silver domed lid. The center of the lid is monogrammed“FMc” in elaborate script. To the very edge if the rim is stamped“STERLING” The lid’s interior is gold washed. Please see photos. The powder jar measures 4 ¼” tall(to top of domed lid) X 2 ¼” bottom diameter) The jar is in very good used antique condition. With one small chip to the bottom rim, and roughness and discoloration to the hand ground neck(which appears to have had a cork or fabric strip surrounding the outside) This strip would have held the lid tightly. That is surrounded by raised gold work containing purple stones(missing 1 of the smaller stones) There are larger and smaller stones. There are kind of bee-shaped forms in a circle that alternate with the stones. The colors in the bee shapes are separated by tiny gold beading and filled with enameling. The colors used in the bee shapes are blue, white, red and dark blue-each color held in tiny gold beading as in cloissone! There is 1 tiny indent at the side of the lid and the one missing small stone. Everything else is just perfect! The stone and the dent are so small as to be hardly noticeable. Antique Early 1900's Cut Glass Powder Or Dresser Jar With Brass & Cloisonne Lid
The jar has no makers names or marks. There is a 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch chip on one of the feet and some smaller chips on the feet. The brass lid has a small dent. The enamel on the cloisonne lid is in good condition and I do think it is original because it fits so well. The jar is 4 1/2 inches tall and 4 inches wide. Satisfaction is guaranteed and if there is a problem just let me know and I'll take care of it. I do not end my auctions early so please don't ask also don't ask me to. Vtg Antique Victorian Bulbous Cut Glass Vanity Dresser Jar Wooden Lid Powder
This very refined Victorian Jar has been in our family for decades ~ my Mother kept pine needles and dried violets in it. And, what a treat it was to join her at her vanity dresser and be allowed to remove the lid, and smell the garden inside. Jar measures 3-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" tall. As you can see the wooden lid(appears to be walnut) has wee wormholes. Which was not unusual on antiques this old. Inside the lid. Appears to be a final coating? paper mache? The design in the glass is remarkable ~ a stripe of dual large circles. Then a stripe of a trio of jagged edge(sawtooth) And the creme de creme is the large flora design on the bottom. Superb glass work. Jar is sturdy. Strong, heavy(weighs 3/4 of a pound) Other than the charming wormholes in the lid. Condition is Excellent. A joy to see. And a joy to handle. The lid has a couple little dings and the cut glass is in perfect condition. You can clearly see the hallmarks for Wilhelm Theodor Wilhelm in the pictures. 835 was the standard silver they used in Germany. American cut crystal glass based and sterling silver topped powder and hair receiver jars. Early 20th. century art deco design. Powder jar has monogram of three Greek letters. Set in lozenge form. Word STERLING appears on rims with maker's mark of: C.W. and arrow. 3" tall and 3 3/4 diameter. Silver weight approximately: 2 oz's. Simple square indent design form around edge of silver tops, with invented corners. NB: some minor dents and scratches and silver not recently polished. Otherwise in good condition for age and use.
