Welcome! I remember seeing these in our charming. Very old high school greenhouse. This one is heavy. Hand blown and has what looks like some streaks on the edge of the bottom. That's where it was held during manufacturing. The glass has bubbles and what looks like small specks of grit. The knob on the top is hollow. It measures 6" tall and 5 1/2" in diameter at the base. It is about 6-1/4" across the bottom and about 7-1/2" across the middle. Large Oval Old Glass Dome, cloche, bell jar; to display clock, doll 18" glass
The Victorian era dome on the wood base stands 20" tall. The glass is a beautiful piece of old glass with waves and dots and a few little( 1/4" about) ovals in the glass. I've tried to capture these in the pictures. The glass itself is 18" tall by 12.5" wide by 7" deep. The glass is 1/8 inch thick. You can see in a picture some whitish matter near the base that may be glue. I didn't try to get it off. The dome sits comfortably in the base but is not snug. This was left in our old house( circa 1818) when we purchased it so I don't know any history on the piece. The base size is 13.5 by 8.25 by 1.75. It appears to be 3 pieces of wood- the center piece split; see picture. The 4 ball feet are attached with tacks. It was painted some time ago as you can see the paint is checked in the picture. Remnants of a ... morefabric or fiber'gasket' in the track for the glass sits remains: see that picture. Maybe to keep insects out? I've only used it once-loaded with Christmas ornaments! Antique Hand Spun Glass Cloche/Bell Jar made by Cambridge. Pristine condition.no fogging. Chips, or noticeable scratches. Hand spun/blown and is HEAVY weighing in at almost 8 1/2 pounds! There's only a couple of bubbles in the glass. Down towards the base. Super clear and even looks hand made by the way the light reflects through the glass. Very thick glass is apparent in the upper part of the bell. It's 11 1/4" tall and 7" wide at the base. This Cloche(bell) doesn't have a knob like some of the others I've sold. Excellent Antique Green Glass Bell Jar Cloche Rolled Rim Pontil Vintage
For consideration is a beautiful. Antique green glass cloche, or bell jar. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The rolled rim and swirls throughout the glass are absolutely stunning. The handle appears to have been applied and shows a nice, wide pontil at the top. The rim shows wear in the form of small, light scratches on the surface that touches the table. There is a very nice piece of pot metal that was embedded into the rim during the crafting process. The jar stands 10.5" tall and is just under 6" across the base. I've spoken to a couple friends who are dealers and no one could give me a solid answer as to the maker. I live in NH and this piece came from a NH estate. So some have speculated that it's a Keene or Lyndeborough piece, but I need to sell it as maker unknown because I cannot say for ... moresure.
