This is a pair of vintage. Antique, general store counter jar. I have had them for over 30 years and I know the woman I purchased them from, owned in the little Nebraska drug shop that these were from in the early 40's. They are at least from that era, Usually used to hold Penny Candies. I have used them for many purposes over the years. The large glass jar stands on a tilt for easy hand access and measures 7" high. 12" wide and12" depth. Mouth is 6" diameter. No chips cracks or abuse. Hinged cover is no longer intact Lid shows typical patina on older metal. So chips and not completely smooth. They have been painted red. Were originally black when I got them. See photos. Antique general store candy jar with tin lid. Large thick glass(1/4" candy jar with original tin lid and knob. No chips or cracks. Which is amazing.Lid pulls off to get to the penny candy. The jar is made to lean forward for candy jar or stands upright for a pickle jar. The lid is also in great condition. I did not try to clean lid which keeps it natural patina. I'll leave this up to the new owner. The measurements are the following. When counter jar is in a upright position it measures 10 1/2"in height and is about 10 1/2"wide x 6 1/2"to top of lid. It has 2 mold lines one on each side of the jar. It is singed on the bottom FACTORY NO. 256 N.C. 5TH DISTRICT N.C. There is also a number 3 impressed on the very bottom side edge please see picture 4 and one small flea bite on the outside rim of the jar please see picture 8. There are no cracks or breaks. There are bubbles in the glass and wear marks in places where there should be from use and age other than that it is very clear glass. This is the type of jar that was on a counter of store with peppermint sticks or penny candy. Payment must be received within 3 days of auction ending. Thanks and happy bidding.

We are pleased to present this antique country store penny candy or cracker jar. It is a round jar with no shoulders and is in perfect condition with no chips or dents in the original tin lid. It has a wonderful whittled or pebbled surface. You rarely see the whittled surface on these jars. It is fresh to us from a recent estate sale.
