RARE ANTIQUE CUSTOM MADE WOOD SMOKING STAND WITH REMOVABLE STANDING ASHTRAYS
This is a rare find! This wooden hand made and hand painted smoking stand was made in the early 1900's. It was a custom piece made by a wood working company in Los Angeles. California. The stand has four removable smoking ashtrays. These ashtrays can be removed from the main stand. The paint is very old and has signs of aging but has been well cared for. It is in great shape for its age. Three of the original ashtray inserts are there but one is missing and I painted a vintage Burger King metal ashtray black- so the space is filled. You will never find another piece like this! The top of the stand in 13 1/2" across and 24" high. Each standing ashtray is 19 1/2" tall& it's base is 6" across and the top is 5" across. Antique WROUGHT IRON PLANT/SMOKING STAND: NIcely HAND MADE. Sturdy, 38"H, CURVED ~Stand is nicely and intricately made of wrought iron, most likely by hand. Labour was easier to come by and less expensive several decades ago! HISTORY, PROVENANCE, USE: ~It was most likely used as a plant stand, yet could possibly have been used as a smoking stand. Most likely it was located in a Victorian parlour. Plants were a common decoration in them, as well as smoking equipment, busts of presidents, etc. In the days before TV, and even radio, a parlour was a sitting room used by all, made to be comfortable, and usually contained a fireplace. They had many uses: for tea, talking, reading, cards, smoking(for men at the time! entertaining guests, family affairs, gathering, and visiting in general. ~This piece comes from a large family home in rural ... morePennsylvania. Parlours in the Northeastern U. S. and elsewhere, especially in England) were extensively used throughout the 1700's, 1800's, and even up until just after World War II. Gradually they fell into disuse, which is a shame. ESTIMATED DATE/TIME PERIOD: ~Dates anywhere from around 1890 to 1930, is my guess. A nicely made piece with a goodly amount of work involved. I believe it to be from the Victorian era, since it almost certainly fits the part of a Victorian-era stand. And it doesn't have any Art Deco features. MAKEUP/CONSTRUCTION: ~A nicely well-made stand made of twisted, curved, bent, circled iron. It is all wrought iron, worked and wrought by hand. This makes for quite a unique, intricately curved, sturdy, well-made stand. Quite durable and attractive. It took a lot of labour, care, and time to make. Not to mention also training, skill, and experience! ~Each piece was individually formed ahead, heated by fire, hammered, smacked, and bent(wrought) according to a plan and design. About 11" in diameter and has surface rust. It is stamped on the bottom"Rembrandt R-7093 Patent App For. The stand is about 23 1/2" high measured to the top of the marble. It is about 32" high measured to he top of the finial. The finial is about 7 1/2" high. There is some wear to the paint on the finial. The round marble top is about 10" in diameter.
