ANTIQUE CHINESE JAPANESE GEISHA WARRIOR HALL TREE COAT RACK STAND GESSO OVERLAY
We are pleased to offer this antique to older vintage. Art Deco era, hall tree or coat/hat stand. This beautiful stand features turned wood body and base. Wrought iron acanthus/lotus vines provide the upper hanging section. There are 4 upturned, wrought iron arms, each with two areas/hooks for use. There is also a center wrought iron finial which could hold a hat or scarf. The wood is painted black(not lacquered) with a textured, slightly rough feel. The body is accented with a thick, paint/gesso overlay. This is used to form two figures on the stand as well as the design on the base. The upper body of the stand features a beautiful and detailed Geisha. Her garments and features are intricately detailed and wrap around the wooden column in a panoramic fashion. There is a lovely and subtle painted pattern on her robe. On the other side of ... morethe upper column is a large lotus flower. The lower column features a warrior or man of importance. He is also nicely and finely detailed and is standing on somewhat textured ground. On the opposite side of the man is a large, painted gold scroll design. The circular base is adorned with gesso painted characters/symbols as well as water/earth designs. Rounded flat head screws hold the wrought iron section to the body. The body is dowelled on the bottom and fits tightly into the base. Four small nails have been hammered upward to give extra hold to the base and column fitting. This is a unique and gorgeous hall tree. It is in very good antique condition. The black painted finish has only a few slight scuffs and nothing distracting. There is some cracking in the old gesso which is very common for this medium. There is a small section of the Geisha's face that is missing as well a small section on the base. These are not very noticeable and are not glaring. They do nothing to subtract from this subtly ornate old piece. It is quite lovely. The stand measures 61" tall. It is 14" in diameter at the top. This stands 79 inches high and is 31 inches across at the widest arms. Beautiful details as shown in photos topped by a bounty of fruit and detailed with lions and fantastic scrolling. Made of beautiful sturdy tiger oak. Measures 75 inches tall, 26 inches across the widest part of the mirror. The mirror itself is 19 1/2 inches in diameter. The bench is 18 inches tall and 25 1/2 inches across. The bench raises up to reveal a storage area. Very unique umbrella stand/ hat rack. Purchased from an estate sale- the only thing I know is the estate belonged to a WWII War Bride from France. Most of her furniture was from France and Germany. This particular piece does not have a makers mark. But it is obviously very old. It does have wear, a couple of small cracks and is slightly loose. The bottom is iron and the removable tray is also handmade. I tried to show this in one of the pictures- you can see where the bottom edges have been folded over when it was made. Old Mission Style Hall Tree/ Coat Tree/ Umbrella Stand Oak Up for auction is a lovely old hall tree. The wood is oak. It has 2 umbrella holders. 6 hooks, one enclosed cabinet, and a shelf. I am not sure if the backboard(thinner) wood is oak. The dimensions are: 70" tall 27" wide 11" deep 7" wide umbrella opening. 6" wide at the bottom. The oak framework pieces for the umbrella section are 1 1/4" wide on top, and 2 1/4" wide at the bottom. The short shelf is 11" long x 3" deep Enclosed cabinet is 25" tall x 10" wide x 10" deep Small head nails used throughout. Please note: I do not think that the hooks are original to the piece. And multiple holes have been drilled over the years. The diamond shaped area was for a mirror, but I do not have the mirror. There are 8 original holes to ... morehold the mirror. There are 5 additional holes drilled into the backboard area that are not original. The enclosed cabinet has one shelf but only has only one support piece so the shelf is not installed. Some wear and tear on the bottom of the legs. At the curved top of the unit(a separate piece) that is held in by a groove, there is a bit of damage to the wood. Only a few deep scratches. On the back of the unit. The letters M A W are written. I cannot find a manufacturers stamp. Please see photos for condition. I have described it best I can. And the unit is being sold as is. Antique copper hall tree coat vintage brass stand rack. I would estimate this hall tree from the 1930s. The coat tree came from a doctor's estate auction and was probably used in the waiting room. I believe it is partially copper and brass. There is some copper oxidizing where you can see green. The tree is missing one of the top 4 hooks- see pictures. The original huge beveled mirror is in excellent condition.the turned posts which are the basis for the mirror frame and the entire top of the piece. The umbrella pans are original and instead of being"hole" when one pulls these out.there are actually finished specific areas for the pans. Pretty neat. Secondary wd appears to be all oak and the hardware is all original except for two replaced screws.
