Nice Older Carved Black Forest Look Flower Box Plant Candle Stand F/Scotland
This auction is for a classic European Flower Box- Basket from Scotland. These are very hard to come by and I very seldom ever see one at an auction or sale. I have seen three(3) in 11 years in real life. The other two I saw were so high in cost. I won't even mention the price, you wouldn't believe it anyways. They seldom ever get exported from Europe or Great britian. This one has lots of carving on both the flower box and the base. The base is carved to look like a tree with limbs. It has a real Black Forest look to it. I am not sure what type of wood it's made out of, I think it's Popular or maybe Pine, but I really am not sure. I am not sure of the country of origin, but it ended up in Scotland years ago. The box portion is heavily carved with lots of wonderful detailed work. One of the points of one of the leaves has ... morebeen broken off. It has a couple of splits in the wood that have been filled and touched up. These are so unusual and a vast majority of people do not know what they are. These also make very nice fern stands or plant stands. This one shown, has a pretty"candle& floral" arragement in it. It would add interest and ellegance to any room you set it in. The top portion or basket screws off the base. It is 17 1/4" X 17 1/4" and it's 35 1/4" tall. The basket is about 4 7/8" deep. This auction is for a classic Solid Mahogany Planter Plant Stand from England. It also makes a Wonderful Candle Stand! This is a very nice and unique planter. It has been in our home for around 10 years. I bought it at an auction with the intent of selling it right away. But my wife took possesion of it from me. Now, 10 years later, she put a mahogany drying rack in it's place and told me I could list it now. When you look at it, it appears to be oak. The color is a dark honey oak, but it is indeed mahogany. It has a shelf near the base which held a ironstone biscuit jar for 10 years. It's very well made and it is in very good overall condition. It would add intrest& charm to any room, foyer or hall in your home. I would guess it was made in the early 30's. 19c Antique American Queen Anne Walnut Mahogany Wood Table Candle Lamp Bed Stand Extraordinary find these are almost impossible to find in such good condition. This table dates to late 1800's solid walnut construction with veneer mahogany top. This piece is solid through out the large bolts on the underside are original to this piece along with it's true original finish. The top will show the natural aged patina truly sought after by most collectors of fine antique furniture. This stand is 30.5" tall by 18" wide by 16" depth. A great size for a bed side table/ night stand or entry way side table about anyplace in your home. These were used for candlesticks in the 1800's and many of them had damage to the tops, this one I must say shows no damage to it's original finish. In fact I've only put some pledge on this table it's as purchased condition, I'm sure a good Howards or Formbys furniture restoration would remove any scratch or scuff the few this table has. Overall very good condition, rarely will you find one with original finish such as this and all original brass tip claw feet. The size is good at 26" tall by 23.5" across the top. Excellent size for a night stand or bedside table, entry way table or about anyplace. Antique Queen Anne Style Mahogany Candle Stand with Crisp Hand Carved Details
Description: Here is an AMAZING antique that came out of a multi-million dollar stately home in Hartford CT that was filled with millions in antiques. Bidding was furious on the contents of this estate and this gem was the only piece I was able to win but it really is a winner. We see quite a few of these mahogany candle stands but this one has some details which places it head and shoulders above the rest. The top has great hand carved details. There is a well carved rim decoration in the form of a stylized laurel wreath and that is not the only carving. There is a well carved"urn” on the base of the nicely turned column. An extra detail you will see is that the top is not just held onto the base with a metal screw but that the top of the column is turned so that the wood itself is threaded and screws itself into the top receiver. The ... morelegs and feet on many of these tables were made from built up piece of wood but this one has each leg carved out of a solid piece of mahogany as you can see in my pictures. Somewhere along the life of this antique octagonal pine side table. It lost it's base and was repurposed and married to its current newer maple version. The result though not desirable for purists, is lovely and functional and affordable all lending to a beautiful traditional early American look. We're not experts but the top is probably 19th century and the bottom, who knows? 30, 40, 50 years? The stand is in good vintage/ antique condition, some surface marks on the top all from years of use.
