Cast. Turned, and fabricated solid heavy brass. Unmarked. They have a very beautiful worn and aged patina which almost has the appearance of gold- gilding due to the smoothness the brass surfaces have acquired from centuries of polishing. Beautifully made during the reign of Russian Tsar Pyotr Alexeyevich Romanov(Peter the Great) These heavy candlesticks feature early classical Russian form and construction. They have pierced mid-drip pans with abstracted symmetrical designs reminiscent of crosses or double headed eagles. The drip pans revolve around the lower part of the stem. The candlesticks have tall baluster uprights of graceful form and with 2.5" 6.4 cm) diameter drip pans at the top. The bases are square with inward curvature to the sides and small lobes at the corners where the'fleur-de-lis' cast feet are attached with through pegs or rivets. Visible on the top surface of the base. Decorative circular turnings on the flat and domed parts of the base. As well as on the stems. The undersides of the mid-drip pans show the original roughness from casting and file marks. As do the inner sides and bottoms of the feet. The undersides of the bases show the original turning marks and the lead-soldered round- domed brass nuts that hold the stems to the bases.
