Up for auction I have a cute little miniature scotty dog or some type of terrier in the cold painted bronze Vienna- style. This little guy. However, was made in Japan, as embossed on his underside. I cannot make out what the maker's mark inside of the diamond shape says. This piece is about two inches long. I can get better measurements if needed. I assume it is bronze, but it could be a different metal, I am not entirely knowledgeable about types of metal. There is a loop on the dog's collar which may have held a leash or something. There is an unusual hole in the dog's mouth. Where he must have held something, or perhaps where he is meant to hold something(almost the size of a pencil or cigarette) Some paint is flaking off, as is usual for an old piece like this. The andirons are cast metal(lighter than cast iron) with a gold/brass finish. They do show signs of having been used with age appropriate wear and surface scratches to the gold finish. There is also wear and corrosion to the actual log holders. These could easily be sanded and painted if you so choose. Approx. measurements are 17 1/4" tall. 9" wide and 11 3/8" long/deep(front to back) Would be great for a smaller fireplace. Marked with a raised JAPAN on the back. Really a wonderful pair of antique/vintage andirons. Andirons will be dissembled for shipping however assembly is simple. EXQUISITE ENAMEL PAINTED BRASS TRAY WITH PEACOCK AND BLOOMING TREE You are bidding on a striking. Very colorful Asian enameled tray. I do not know whether this piece is Chinese or Japanese. It is fully enamel painted on a brass tray measuring 10-3/4" by 8-1/2. The large peacock has glorious plumage. He stands under a blooming cherry or perhaps magnolia tree with pink blossoms. The piece is done on a teal green ground with colorful flowers in the border. This piece is also enameled on the back side in solid green. There are a couple condition issues with this antique tray. Just inside the rim at about the 10 o'clock position(first photo, above) there is a 1" crack and what appears to be restoration of the enamel between the crack and the metal rim. At the bottom, at about the 5:30 position, there is another area with some whitening ... morenear the rim and this, too, appears to be a small restored area. I do not see any other areas of concern. Antique Early Iron Food Cooker / Warmer? -Chinese? Japanese? European? -Old Iron
Offered for Auction: Old Primitive Hand Crafted Iron Food Cooker. Warmer or Vessel? The warmer has a rounded bottom which probably sat inside of a ring, the top is crudely hinged and it's fastened with a narrow swinging toggle. The top has an interior ridge which helps to seal the top so this may have been some sort of pressure cooker, however I am at a loss for what to call it. I do not know the origin or age of the piece but my guess is Asian or Indian, or perhaps European and I cannot find another example for comparison. The iron is seamed and riveted. The warmer has seen better days and is dented, has a rusted surface and interior and the collared opening is askew and pushed in and is being sold as is. Condition: Fair given its age and use. There is surface rust. Dents, dings, scratches and divots and the interior is dirty, rusted ... moreand mottled. The neck/collar is askew and pushes into the body. I have not cleaned the warmer. I do not see any holes or cracks but I have not filled it with water to check for leaks. Up for your consideration is a hard-to-find cast iron doorstop. It depicts a Japanese Spaniel(or Japanese Chin) standing upright in a begging position. This piece also is referred to as the"Begging Pekingese" doorstop. There are no manufacturer markings. But it's been attributed by numerous sources to having been made by the Judd Company(CJO) in Wallingford, Connecticut, probably during the 1920's. It's marked on the back with the mold number"718" This doorstop is pictured on page 82 in the book" Doorstops" by Jeanne Bertoia. The doorstop stands about 9" tall. The base measures approximately 5" wide and 2 1/4" deep. It's very heavy and made of solid cast iron. It's guaranteed to be an original vintage cast iron doorstop and NOT a modern reproduction.
