This heavy(7 ½ pounds) pair of bookends are made of cast iron and feature painted likeness of both John Alden and Priscilla. Since the back and bottom are covered. I was not able to find any makers marks, but quality for certain. The likenesses are in raised relief and the painting has a rich patina.

Antique bamboo umbrella stand with cast iron drip plate. This is the real thing not a reproduction. Probably from the 1940's-1950's. Cou ld be older. That is my best guess. Bamboo has the tortoise shell look with wooden turned finials and chains on each side. It is not in perfect condition and needs a good cleaning. Very usable and decorative for that special little spot. Stands about 32" tall and the triangle shape is about 14" on each side. Weight is about 9 pounds. Most of it being the cast iron dri p plate. Antique Early 1900s Imperial Trouser Hanger Wall Hanging Cast Iron NICE Hook Too Lots of oldees for you this week- some very cool and very old primitives. Fabulous retro industrial, wonderful original artwork, and even some deco thrown in- there’s something for everyone! Here is a unique one- it calls itself a trouser hanger. With a patent date on the front of November 29, 1900, but you can really use it for so many things- hang it up on the wall, and it's a nice towel rack, linen hanger, or just a general hook from which you can hang your displays! The backplate that mounts on the wall is made of cast iron, and it identifies that it is called an"Imperial Trouser hanger, put out by Pynchon& Co. in Philadelphia. The looping tubes in the front I believe are made of steel(if not cast iron, too, a magnet sticks to them) and look ... moreto have a nickel plated finish- I can't be sure, but it sure looks like the nickel finishes of the early last century- it's still quite shiny silver, with very little wear. Most of the teenie dark spots that you may see in the photos are actually dirt or grime- it could use a good cleaning. It weighs a hefty 1 1/4 lbs, and it measures 9 3/8" wide at the hooks, 2 3/4" deep hook loops only, and 3 1/8" deep from the backplate to the very front of the hook. I did notice that the backplate- which the end of the back of the hook is threaded into- tilts just a smidge off center to the left- it's really hard to notice(and easier to see from the back in my photos- see photo 7- it's just a touch off straight) and very well may be original as it does not budge for me- it's on tight. It's in excellent solid and sturdy condition. Aside from needing a good cleaning, there's a some small spots of white wall paint on the very edges of the backplate- from when the wall was painted, I'm sure. Very nice. Old antique cast iron doorstop! This gorgeous piece is probably Hubley. It features a beautiful English Bulldog or Boston Terrier which was mounted(years ago) on a thick wood back and base. It is in very good, antique condition with some expected age spots to the cast iron. There is still a nice finish to the dog and the wood base is very nice with wonderful aging characteristics. This is a unique piece as you don't find them mounted very often. The wood dimesions are 17" wide and 10.5" tall and is 4" from front to back. The dog measures 9" tall and is 8" wide. The entire piece is colored in gold and is screwed to a rectangular base. The dog's mouth is opened by raining its tail. The nut is inserted in the mouth and the tail is then lowered to open the nut. The inside of the mouth has ribbing or raised casting to ensure the nut does not slip. The casting shows nice details of the dog's face and body. This is a very nice piece and is rather interesting and would make a great discussion piece or addition to your collection. The finish is very smooth which tells a lot about the quality and craftsmanship that went into making this item. You do not see things like this very often. It is unlikely you could ever find an upgrade to this 122 year old mail box. It's in such outstanding condition. Let's get into the few condition problems immediately: Underneath the representation of the northwind. You'll see a bar running the width of the box(in the 3 examples of this box we found, that bar was missing) just above the patent info. PAT'D DEC 29 91 PAT'S PEND" On the left side, the small flange holding the bar is missing its lower part, although the bar is still held securely in place. This almost certainly was a manufacturing problem, as there is no other sign of damage whatsoever, and the missing area appears to have the same finish as the rest ... moreof the box. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th photos clearly show this. There are some areas on the inside by the top letter slot that have light surface rust(see last photo) There are some areas of missing finish on the back. Ot herwise. It's in great conditio n.
