Old Antique Heavy Cast Lead, Bronze or Brass Wash Horse Figure Doorstop Bookend
Here's an interesting old or antique mystery item we don't know too much about. It is clearly very old and has acquired a very nice darkened aged appearance. Our best guess is that this is a doorstop and less likely but possibly was a bookend. It is made of thickly casted metal we think is probably lead or a lead alloy with a bronze or brass finish. Wash or plate. At one time it has a bottom piece hand soldered to it that probably stabilized it better for it's intended use. Antique Pair Western Parade Horse Dodge Bookends Gladys Brown Edwards c1946
A fabulous pair of western parade horses made by Dodge in the 1940s. The horses face in the same direction because they were designed for coffee table decor holding a few books together and fully visible in the center of the room. The engraving reads Dodge Inc. C. 1946. These have a perfect aged patina and beautiful coloring. One horse has the original felt bottom with the Dodge sticker and the other has a replaced felt bottom. These were designed by Gladys Brown Edwards who was a well known horse artist and expert on breed horse conformation. Ms. Edwards was frequently a contributor to the Arabian Horse World magazine and other horse journals for much of her life. Each bookend is 6 inches long x 6 1/4 inches tall to the top of the ears. Wonderful desk or coffee table tray depicting a saddled horse that is getting ready to rear back. The design is the work of listed artist W B Tallman from the early 20th C. The few other pieces of hers that I've found are also animals- several of dogs- and at least one piece was cast by the Gorham foundry. Which in itself is a mark of distinction for any artist. WB Tallman" is marked on the back edge. And on the side edge is the mark of the foundry. JB 979" representing Jennings Brothers. This piece is cast gray metal and then given a bronze-colored finish. Circa 1930. Condition is excellent: no damage to the metal. Nothing dented, bent, broken off, or glued back on. Finish is original, in fine shape, though showing wear and loss of luster. The felt on the bottom could be original, and the metal plate under that felt surely ... moreis. The tray is 8 inches long and 5 1/2 inches across. The horse figure stands 6 1/4 inches to the tops of it's ears. And 6 1/4 inches from nose to tail. Particularly charming is the fact that the tail extends beyond the edge of the underlying tray. Six beautifully aged brass buckles salvaged from antique horse bridles. I am assuming that they are solid brass in that they have been exposed to every element over the years and they would have rusted if they were another metal. I believe they are hand forged as there are many slight differences: no two are exactly the same. Four measure approximately 2-1/8" X 1-7/8" these are outside measurements) and the other two. A little smaller, are about 1-7/8" X 1-5/8" There is no damage. But they are tarnished. I have done no clean up or polishing as a new owner may prefer their present appearance. Up for sale is a nice Antique Bronze Horse I bought from an antiques dealer. It is in great condition. Has some lovely spots of green patina coming through on some of the detailwork making it stand out beautifully, will grow even more beautiful with age. Was made about a hundred years ago. Cast bronze, it is approximately 8" from nose to tail and 7 1/2" from feet to the top of the ears, it is heavy and weighs almost 3 lbs. This would look great on any mantel, bookshelf, nightstand, desk, in a curio cabinet or on a dresser. Would make the perfect accent for a library, office, den, or living room. Hello. You are viewing my auction for an Antique Cast Metal Horse. This horse weighs 10.8 pounds. It is very heavy for its size which measures 17" long by 4 and 3/4" wide by 7 and 1/4" tall. Is it made from Spelter or Bronze? I am unsure of the exact metal that it is made from. There are sections towards the back that have a green tarnish color to the metal. It should be noted that the horse has both of its rear legs broken off. I have shown photographs of this. The horse still can still sit upright with the broken legs. Antique Cast Iron Still Penny Bank Scarce Gold Colored Prancing Horse Canadian For Your Penny Bank Collection Details Description: A beautiful antique cast iron still penny bank. It is cast in the form of a prancing horse with its right hoof up as well as his head. The horse. Which is made of cast iron colored in throughout, but has lost quite of bit of it, with remnants on the bottom between its legs and on its back as well as its mane. The piece has acquired a dark patina with age, where the original coloring is lost. The bank is made of two halves held together with a screw, which we believe is original to the piece. We have opened the bank and found running of the gold coloring on the inside but did not find any markings. The inside also has surface oxidation, but nothing to worry about. The bank has the coin slot on the back of the horses' ... moreneck and ending on his back. See page 86(bank number 518) in Andy and Susan Moore's book"The Penny Bank Book; Collecting Still Banks" Published by Schiffer Books, of Exton, PA in 1984 for a similar example. Antique statue of horse and rider Napoleon? Custer? Price reduced!
This was purchased from an antique shop where we were told it was a statue of Eugene Louis Napoleon depicting him when he was fighting the Zulus. The marble base has a plaque proclaiming that(see photo) However. I think there was a mix up, because this really looks like General Custer! I have seen a similar clock topper which was Buffalo Bill. The interesting part is the crest on the saddle cloth(see photo) It looks more French than American. Well, whoever he is, he looks quite handsome and the base has great appeal! The plaque on the base could easily be removed. It seems to be stuck on. No screws. It could even be replaced with the correct name if we ever found out who the rider is! The rider is gold colored metal, the horse is silver metal. It is in really excellent condition but there seems to be something missing from the rider's ... moreright hand.The marble base has some scratches on it. I am sure they could be buffed out. This large. Very rare set of antique thoroughbred horse bookends were made by the Armor Bronze Company in the 1930's. These high quality, richly detailed pair of elegant thoroughbred horses are standing calmly with their heads turned slightly. Each bookend stands 8" tall, 8 1/2" long, 2 1/2" wide and weighs 2 lbs. 12 oz. lbs. 5 lbs. 8 oz. for the pair) They are in very good condition. They stand straight and level. There are no breaks, repairs,or, touch-ups. Authenticity is assured as there is an original paper label still attached to the bottom of one, both original felts are still intact. These antique bookends were made using the much coveted and highly collectible bronze-clad method of production which utilized electricity via an electrode built into the plaster mold of the subject piece. There was a lot of preparation ... morework involved. Bronze was then electroformed onto the plaster mold. This was extremely innovative in the early 1900’s. Unfortunately. It was also very costly for labor and materials. Some bookends could take as long as three days to be completed. Almost all of the companies went bankrupt. However, they created some of the most detailed and sought after bookends we have today. They're getting quite scarce to find in good condition since they are somewhat fragile.

These are an especially high quality set of extremely rare bookends featuring a jockey riding a thoroughbred horse. The detailing is so superior you can see the features on the jockeys face. Each bookend stands 7" tall. 8 1/2" long, 2 1/2" wide and weighs 2 lbs. 10 oz. 5 lbs. 4 oz. for the pair) This pair has a silver finish which has tarnish and can be polished if you prefer it to be shiny as the finish is very high quality. The finish appears all intact. The bases are gray and have some discoloration and a couple dings. The condition is very good original. One foreleg seems bent down more than the other and one tail is higher than the other. There is a bit of wobbling of the horses on the bases. This can be remedied by tightening the screws under the base. We did not do it and don't find it necessary as it is minor. We ... morewould have to break the original soldered seal which is attached to the base. Breaking that seal is not worth it. This measures 6" tall. 7 3/4" long, 3" wide and weighs 3 lbs. 4 oz. It is in good original antique condition. The horse has some finish loss and a chip off the tip of one ear. The onyx is in very good condition with minor flaws. This shows nicely. The horse is level and firmly attached to the base with no wobbling.

Extremely rare. Magnificent set of heavy, high quality cast iron antique bookends featuring a pair of bridled horse heads framed by a horse shoe by Bradley and Hubbard. Circa 1920. These beautiful antique bookends feature a pair of gilded bridled horses set with a black background and surrounded by a silver horse shoe. As is expected with Bradley and Hubbard products these are exceptionally detailed and of superior quality. Each bookend stands 6" tall, 5" wide, 3" deep and weighs 4 lbs. They are in very good original condition. The bottoms have the telltale holes for feet in lieu of felt indicative of Bradley and Hubbard bookends. These could also be used as doorstops. It features a London Royal stage coach complete with two horses and two riders. The original paint is in excellent condition. It measures 12 1/4" long. 7 1/4" high, 2 3/4" deep and weighs over 6 pounds. I inherited the doorstop and it was just used for display. VTG ANTIQUE METAL BRONZE BRASS HORSE FIGURINE STATUE AGED PATINA This is a vintage/antique horse figure of metal. It looks like brass or bronze with a darkened patina and some green and white corrosion. Figure measures 10 1/2" x 7 7/8" x 3 5/8" and weighs 2 lbs. 11.5 oz. There are some surface marks. Corrosion-like marks on the figure, no breaks in metal. There is something rattling around inside horse when its moved. Horse is screwed to base, both screws show rust, underneath the base. This wonderful statue comes from an estate sale in Mississippi. The family had lived in the house for generations and just recently liquidated all of the treasures collected there. Measuring 10-1/4" tall. 9-1/8" long and 3-3/4" deep, this statue is made of metal that does not hold a magnet. Notice the wonderful detail on the horse, boy and dog. I'm sure this piece is over 100 years old! It appears to have had a rein going through the holes in the horses bridle and the boy's hand. At some time in the past. Their patina remains largely intact. With light surface pitting typical with age. Dodge, Inc. began in Chicago in the mid 1920's by Ray E. Dodge, a former track star in the 1924 Olympics. In 1930 he moved the company to Los Angeles to begin making Oscars for Hollywood's Academy Awards, and in 1949, began producing Hollywood's Emmys.
