Brass Mid-Drip Pan (Heemskirk) Candlestick - Dutch - Circa 1690
Brass Mid-Drip Pan(Heemskirk) Candlestick- Dutch- Circa 1690 If you are serious about this item and wish to discuss it with me personally in further detail. Please contact Dave 716 523 6419. This Dutch late 17th century brass candlestick with a mid-drip pan is commonly referred to as a Heemskirk-type candlestick. The tulip shaped socket appeared at the end of the 17th century and is called a Tulip Socket Heemskirk by collectors. This example shows the ends of the steel pin in the polished sides of the socket. Which was used during the early brass casting process to hold the mold halves together. The upper column with the socket was cast with a long stem that went through the drip pan, the lower column and the base, and was then peened(hammered) over to secure the four pieces solidly together. Should this securing stem loosen over time, it ... morewas either re-peened, or if this turned out to be insufficient, the brass stem was replaced with a threaded steel rod and nut to secure it. This example exhibits a late 18th century or early 19th century stem upgrade of this exact type. In perfect original condition otherwise. This candlestick has a height of 7 5/8" with a drip-pan diameter of 4 1/8" and a base diameter of 3 5/8 inches. It has a weight of 1 pound and 12 ounces. Thanks for looking. m3403-idd Please pay for your winning bid within three days of the auction ending. You may return any item to me within fourteen days of receipt provided that you email me within three days of receipt indicating that you will be returning it to me.
