This sign will be created for you. Hello and Merry November! Thanks you so much for stopping by to see my Tavern Sign! This offering is for my R Chadwick Inn sign. All of my signs are copies of originals that are displayed in museums and private collections. No two are exactly alike for they are all hand painted. This sign measures approx 3ft x 2ft with a 2" frame nice and big like the original. Also it was created on a board starting as a pencil sketch then painted with layers of acrylic paints. All of my signs have texture as if the paint raised a bit because of being out in the elements. They are also distressed to look old and stained to look a bit dingy. I always use wax over the entire piece for preservation. Please allow 2 weeks for delivery. This sign will be created for you, Thank you. Here is a bit of history about tavern signs. What is a tavern sign? The term designates a popular category of early American folk art. Typically consisting of a wooden signboard painted on both sides with a combination of images and words and equipped with hand-forged, often decorative, iron hardware for hanging. Tavern signs originated from the practical need to identify dwellings licensed to provide entertainment to travelers–entertainment being the period term for essential services, including food, drink, and lodging, as well as feed and stabling for horses. Today’s comparable establishments(roadside restaurants. Motels, gas stations) are generally recognizable as distinctive building types, but colonial taverns and inns were literally“public houses. These were ordinary dwellings licensed to accommodate strangers. How could an out-of-towner find such a home-away-from

Iron at Winterthur” By Donald L. Fennimore. Published by the Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur Museum in 2004. DISCUSSION: Iron at Winterthur. A catalogue of the extensive but previously unpublished collection at the museum, fills an oft-neglected niche in the field of decorative arts-that of the history and use of iron in the everyday life of 17th, 18th, and 19th century Americans. With essays and entries on approximately 275 cast, wrought, and sheet iron objects for every household function, the author not only addresses the specifics of maker, date, place of origin, and the like but also presents thematic and interpretive commentary dealing with economics, craft, and manufacturing techniques and the marketplace. Donald L. Fennimore adeptly tells the story of skill and artistry, illuminating the grace and beauty inherent in everyday iron ... moreobjects. The book's introduction documents the formation of the collection by museum founder H. Antique Philadelphia Thomas Byles American pewter muffineer 18th century
This early American pewter muffineer is 5 inches tall. We are attributing it to Thomas Byles. Who was active in Philadelphia from 1738 to 1771. The piece is hallmarked on the bottom. The mark is slightly different than the mark used on larger pieces but due to the confined space, the mark may have been modified. Please judge for yourself. There are some small dents especially around the lower part of the body. Delivery and signature confirmation is included in the shipping cost. Froo www.froo.com | Froo Cross Sell. Antique Pewter 8 3/4" plate American or English
Early plate just a hair under 8.75 inches across Unique and rare it is a very shallow plate under 1/2 inch Here is what I can say about this plate. While it has a tag that says American Henry Will which would place the plate as being made in the late 1700s. While it does have the characteristics of American make of that age. I cannot guarantee that it is a Will because the one reference I have on H Will marks does not seem to match although he did make 8.75" plates- as did other early American makers. Note the condition. Crack and hole in middle, bite" off rim, typical scratches and some light knife marks. Fine scratching all around the edge- almost seems like it was done on purpose to be decorative? Nice dark patina but not pitting through at all. About the marks- they are very faint. There looks to be the typical 4 small marks(sorry ... morecamera cannot do anything more to pick them up) The first looks to be a bird or eagle with wings spread. Second and third show a little but too far gone to venture a guess. Fourth could be the tops of initials. There may be a large touch that may be a lion rampant- but to be fair maybe I have my mind wanting some wear pattern to look like a touch- it is quite faint. So the markings are consistent with American make. But also with English makers. The booge is veryshallow and does not look to be hammered. Plate bottom has incribed circle line as do many American plates. So there it is. Issues but still very nice piece of pewter- and if you are better at identifying marks than I am, mabe you will find it to be as rare as I suspect. I have some other pewter listed. So take a look for possible combined shipping. Good luck and early bidding appreciated. Expertly packed so you get it in great shape. See my Positive Feedback and Buy with Confidence! QUESTIONS and COMMENTS Please email me with any questions or concerns or requests for other photos before bidding. Circa1850 ANTIQUE English?American VICTORIAN?GEORGIAN?FEDERAL Brass CANDLESTICKS
A HANDSOME OLD PAIR of CAST& TURNED BRASS CANDLESTICKS of an apparently QUITE RARE FORM. VERY GOOD CONDITION with FINE OLD PATINA A dent on the bottom rim of one. Certainly fully removable. See details below. CIRCA 1850. Offered is a very fine& heavy old pair of brass candlesticks. Approximately 8-1/4 inches(21 cm) high with a base diameter of 3-3/4 inches(9.5 cm) Together they weigh 2 pounds, 8.8 ounces(1156 grams) Admittedly with very little brass candlestick expertise. But with a substantial library and a knack for Internet research, I've found the combination of design& crafting details of these sticks to be quite unusual: specifically the faceted& reverse tapered central baluster form elements. But I'm therefore lost for any specific attributions for either date/age or country/location. I do. However, comfortably ... moreguarantee them to be pre-1900; and of American, British or Continental origin. Also, as always, Satisfaction Guaranteed. Unpolished/as found. Hand-cut threads. Noteworthy dent to the edge of the rim of the stick on the right. CONDITION VERY GOOD with FINE OLD PATINA One dent to the rim of one base. As noted under my second above image. Numerous minor handling wear surface dings. A striking pair of old brass candlesticks in rather fine condition. You may want to view the other pair of Mid-19th Century candlesticks that I have listed tonight: They're whimsical& downright devilish bronze Gothic Revival figural Lincoln Imp sticks. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING If I have only offered the USPS First Class International Mail option. And it is $15 or more for a small item, it will actually be sent as First Class Registered Mail, the most secure option. Registered is not offered with eBay's shipping calculator. I do such for items I expect to bring a price deserving of Delivery Confirmation, while shipping for less than Priority or Express Mail International. If you would prefer it to be shipped Express, also secure, but faster, I'd expect it to be about $10 more. FOR MORE fi

Large antique handwrought antique pewter coffee pot American? 18/19th century
Description: Beautiful large handwrought pewter coffee pot with a handle that terminates in a heart at the bottom. Great flowing design. Substantial and well made. Appears to be handwrought, but I am not an expert. Not marked as to maker or country of origin. I always assumed this was late 19th century, along the lines of the Arts and Crafts and turn of the century English designers, but I saw a very similar one in a period film set in the Georgian period, so perhaps it's earlier. I am sure someone on ebay knows. Most of my items are vintage or antique and may have normal wear commensurate with age. Use and materials. I will mention any damage or flaws I see. Please review the pictures; they are an important part of the description. Please email me if you have any questions. Payment: Payment is due within 3 days of auction’s end. Paypal ... moreonly. Shipping: US shipping via USPS standard post due to weight; includes tracking/delivery confirmation. I ship within 3 business days(usually within a day) after payment is received. Please remember that I cannot control the transit time after the package is delivered to the post office. International shipping(Europe and Japan) please contact me for costs. Shipping to Canada is somewhat less. So please wait for me to send an invoice before paying. Antique SOUTHERN AMERICAN Folk art copper MOONSHINE Figural pitcher w PIG HEAD
Guaranteed to be original and as described- RARE antique old early 1900's hand hammered hand wrought Southern American figural folk art copper moonshine pitcher/jug with a pig( or Hog) head. The antique pig pitcher was most certainly used for liquor.Moonshine or alcohol due to the small pouring hole for controlled serving. The pitcher was dovetailed down the backside and has wonderful hammering marks throughout. This is a rare piece of American history that was originally purchased out of a Alabama barn estate sale about five years ago. The family's history went back to the civil war, the pitcher itself is from the early part of the 20th century( perhaps even earlier, I am being conservative in saying early 1900's) The base was dovetailed in as well and there is lead in the base to give it a steady weight. SIZE: 8 inches high ... moreby 7 1/2 inches from the end of the snout to the end of the strap handle. CONDITION: Fine condition, there are no c hips.Cracks or repairs, it looks like that the antique copper pitcher was cleaned a little a long time ago. The inside has been disturbed. There is a tiny pinhole in the very top rim from age that does not detract, just mentioning for accuracy.see photo's) All items that are sold are sold as is as this is an auction. Payments accepted are paypal or other if approved prior to sale. The shipping is FREE in the US for this item and delivery conformation is included. Pa yment is expected within FIVE day's. ANTIQUE EARLY AMERICAN PEWTER 8 3/4 to 9" PLATES 3 SCALLOPED 1 BOWL CHECK MARKS!
These plates come out of a house on Bluff Road in Amagansett where I ran an estate sale last year. I have been listing several other items from that house. And will continue to do so for next couple of weeks. It was an old house, but not as old as these plates. They all were used early America, but were they made in America? Please check touche marks. The first three are scalloped, nine inch plates. They are the first image you see. The first mark you see as you scroll down is on two of these plates. Gershon Jones? Beats me. The third is by the second mark you see as you scroll down. This one is really cool to me, hope it is American. Then there is a nine inch, 3/4 inch deep bowl, really cool engraved initials of owner, F. H. Touch mark is 7th image down, I don't think American, but I know nothing. It is real early, that is for sure. ... moreFinally, there is an 8 1/2 inch plate, shows good amount of honest wear, touch mark includes"P.D. I hope there is a real treasure in here for you treasure hunters! Powered by
SIGNED 19TH C AMERICAN PH GRIFFIN ALBANY NY COPPER KETTLE ANTIQUE AMERICANA
Here is an important piece of Americana from the mid 1800's and the handle is hallmarked with the maker's name and location.in this case. P. H. Griffin, Albany which is Albany, NY. In the 19th century, this style of copper tea kettle with a flaring goose neck spout and swinging handle was peculiar to the Pennsylvania and New York area. I found a Patrick H Griffin listed as a coppersmith in 1858 at"Steuben Corner" in Albany. This particular kettle was a wedding present to my parents in 1955 and was given to them by our"Cousin Brooks" who had a high end antique store in Shepherdstown. West Virginia. My mom has decided she is ready to part with it. Height to top of handle = 10" Height to top of lid = 7 1/2" Width to include spout = 12 1/2" Diameter of the base = 7 1/2" The kettle is in very good ... morecondition all the way around with original patina and no damage.except for where the goose neck spout has separated from the body of the kettle. This is shown in the photos.and this just happened over time. I have been told that this repair by a knowledgable craftsman could be done for around $100 and I have the name of that person if interested. The bottom of the kettle may have been replaced at some point but definitely prior to 1955. I will ship anywhere. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any other photos. Book: NOTES ON ANTIQUE AMERICAN PEWTER & PEWTERERS - Nice 1926 LIMITED EDITION
Some Notes on American Pewterers” By Louis Guerineau Myers. Printed for Louis Guerineau Myers by the Country Life Press in 1926. Edition limited to 1000 copies. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The second study of American pewter and pewterers. As a whole, after J.B. Kerfoot's monumental and still important 1924 study. Myers notes in his Foreword- These notes represent some mild incursions into the realms of early American pewter, inspired by Mr. Kerfoot's splendid work on the subject, and partly, of course, by the possession of a fairly comprehensive collection of examples by American pewterers" Certainly, as Ames& Ward point out, in the 21st century Myers' slender but elegant book is"now principally of historiographical interest" yet that interest certainly remains. Louis Guerineau Myers ... morewas among the pioneering collectors of American decorative arts in the first decades of the 20th century. Fellow collector R.T.H. Halsey wrote an appreciation of Myers after his death for the 1932 auction catalog of his collection of antique American furniture. Silver, pewter and accessories, in which he notes- He knew infinitely more about the touch of the old time craftsman and the wiles of the present day forgers than those of us who frequently called upon him. His judgment was unerring. There is no one to take his place. His ability and zeal as a collector has long been evidenced in his collections, and his much sought-after advice greatly improved the quality of several of the important collections of American furniture assembled during the past decade. It is safe to say that had not Louis Guerineau Myers lived, the knowledge of much of the excellence of craftsmanship of our eighteenth century cabinetmakers would not yet have been known to us. He led the way" DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 7"x10.5" Xiii + 96 pages, plus 70 black& white plates. CONDITION NOTES: The covers have some light wear and soil(please see the photos. Above and below) The book interior has

Antique American Pewter Chalice Pedestal Base and Flared Rim Possibly W Calder-2
Antique American Pewter Chalice Pedestal Base and Flared Rim Possibly By Calder For Your Antique Pewter Collection Details Description: An antique pewter chalice having a pedestal base and a flared rim. The chalice has a formed stem emanating from the base and carrying a goblet with straight sides ending in an outwards flared rim. The goblet has ribbing towards the bottom. Please see page 93(no. 186) in Peter Hornsby's book"Pewter Of The Western World 1600-1850" published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd in Exton PA for a similar chalice from the 19th century attributed to Calder. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain but most likely circa 19th century Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Size: The base measures ~3 3/4" ... morein diameter at the base. ~3 1/4" in diameter at the top and is 6" high(exactly the same dimensions of the item in the Hornsby book) The piece weighs about 12.3 ounces. Maker: Uncertain. But could be William Calder. Marks: Unmarked. Distinguishing Characteristics- Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice antique American pewter chalice that would display nicely in your collection. It is really a substantial piece weighing about 12.3 ounces. Condition: It is in relatively good condition given its age and utilitarian function. The piece is intact with no breaks. Cracks, repairs or losses. It has a warm gray age patina, which looks great. It does have scratches throughout and it has some minor defect and graying of the surface due to pitting? on the stem, which can be seen in the third and seventh photos. This seems to be excess pewter or solder residue and most likely an artifact of the manufacturing. It does have some general wear commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. It also has some soiling as well as some staining, which could most likely benefit from a good cleaning, but we leave that to the new owner. Finally, the biggest issues we see are

ANTIQUE LARGE ALL PEWTER STEIN POSSIBLY EARLY AMERICAN BEER DRINKING
Measures 8 ¼ inches tall from the base to the opening rim edge 10 ½ to the top of the finial. Base diameter is 5 ½ inches. 3 ½ inch diameter across the opening top. Actual weight is 3 pounds 5 ounces. Experienced collectors will recognize this as a very old Stein. It’s been rode hard and put away wet but it is seriously old aged. Possibly back to the late 1700s. Just as found dust and all found at an old ancestral home yard sale in Wisconsin. It’s heavy extra thick pewter so I don’t know how in the world it ever got bent down the way it is at he front. Must of fallen bottom first off a shelf or a table to hard floor at some point in it’s history. I can find no makers marks any where. Who knows maybe an Early American made piece. Someone scratched in initials HL on the lid. Probably a former owner at some point. No leaks ... morebut looks like some old solder repairs at the base.
