V. Old Antique Brass Water Jug, 1800s, Indian/Ottoman, sourced in N Africa
On auction is one very old brass jug. I sourced this in Sudan which was dug out of an old. Destroyed house and saved it from going to be melted. This piece is hefty and made for years of use. Antique experts in Sudan estimated it to be from the 18th or 19th century period of Egyptian/Ottoman rule in Sudan. They guessed this based on the quality of work and what they described as a typical Ottoman design on either side of this jug. At 1.1 kg(nearly 2.4 pounds) this piece is an ancient find that was built for use. The base seems to have a very old repair on it probably made by those who were using it. The spout. Although quite stoutly made in its own right, also seems to have had a very early repair on it as well. Yes. I had cleaned this carefully with Autosol when I first found it. I had to to see what it was and as I didn't have any intention ... moreof selling it at the time, I cleaned it for display with some of the other wonderful things we found in the Sudan. This piece stands just over 9" tall, is about 10.25" long and is about 4.5 inches wide. When it cleaned it some years ago. I found that the bottom patch weeped a bit. However, the spout poured straight and true. A truly wonderful piece. However. As we have hundreds of pounds of antique copper and brass, we are starting to move things on. They are all in great condition considering their age.Each measure is marked with the size of the contents: 1 Liter. ½ liter, 1 deciliter, ½ deciliter and 2 centiliter and a centiliter as well as the marks of the measure master. The measure master is the man, who in old times would ensure that a liter served was really a liter and so on. Upon having measured this he would put a stamp in the side of the container, signifying that it was so. Weighing is a centuries old custom, as witnessed in several buildings, still in existence today that were used just for measuring. Pair of Important Early Examples of Antique Cast Iron Pre Art Deco Barstools from a Leadville Colorado Bar. Manufactured by John Danner of Canton. Ohio. Beautifully ornate cast iron bases. Bar stools measure 22" tall. Wooden seat is 11" in diameter. Hexagon base is 8" at widest point. Each bar stool weighs 12+ lbs. The seats rotate freely and easily on a precise pivot point, and were not made to telescope up and down. All finishes on cast iron and wooden seats are old and original. pitcher copper antique matching pair graduating 1800s 19th century brass wood
For auction is a pair of matching copper pitchers. One being slightly larger than the other. The pitchers appear to be handmade of copper and tin lined. I think they have rolled seams, but I’m not sure about that. The handles are riveted onto the sides of the pitchers. The wood on the handles and single lid is very dry and needs to be oiled. The handle of the shorter pitcher is slightly loose. They both hold water. I think they both have what’s called a large flanged lip. The pitchers are slightly flared and tapered from bottom to top. In nice condition generally, they have minor dings, dents and scratches from normal use. The tall pitcher shows some discoloration near the top edge and near the neck especially. I think that the handles are of brass and wood, but I don’t know the type of wood. I don’t know if these could be considered flagons ... moreor not. I’ve seen listings for similar looking pitchers claim that the items are from the 1800’s, but I’m very unsure if that is true in this case. The pitchers have a sort of a warm patina. It seems they would have more of a patina, or at least a darker patina being that old, but perhaps they were polished sometime in the past 100 years or so. I don’t see any markings on these. The taller pitcher measures about 4 ¾ inches at the tallest point and is just under 3 1/4 inches diameter at the bottom. The shorter pitcher stands about 4 inches tall at the tallest point and is also about 3 ¼ inches diameter at the bottom. The lid can fit either pitcher. Together, both pitchers and lid weigh 7.2 ounces alone with no packaging. As I understand it, copper pitchers of this form were often found in American kitchens in the 19 th century and were available in sets of graduating sizes. They were usually tin-lined. As these pieces are, so that they could be used for consumable liquids. They are very decorative and are often assembled by collectors to complete a set in different sizes. This candlestick is 7.75 inches tall and has a square base with cut corners. The base is just under 3 inches wide. The candlestick seems to be bronze because the metal has a pinkish cast. There is still some wax inside the holder. The bobeche is a bit bent. The shaft is seamless. There are a few small dings and scratches and a few dark stains. The underside of the base is not finished. There is a pushup mechanism embedded in cork underneath. It is slightly bent and not functional. Antique 1800s Cartwright & Son Pewter (Brittania Metal) Footed Coffee Pot Teapot
Up for auction is an antique pewter footed pot for tea or coffee made by G. Cartwright and Son in the mid- to late 1800s. This striking piece stands 10" tall and measures 10" across from handle to spout. Its finial is comprised of two acorns on a leaf. And it rests on ornate feet. The bottom is marked"G. Cartwright& Son 95" above which is imprinted"WG" The years have been relatively kind to this teapot. Although it is not without its flaws-most noticeably a small dent near the bottom and scratching on either side of the spout(near the pouring end) There are stains on the inside of the pot and the lid looks like it sits a bit off. Here is a very old"DOVETAIL SEAMED BOTTOM" Copper POT. This is about 19 inches in overall length including the handle. The pot is about 9inches wide x 5 inches deep. There seems to have been a silver type tin interior coating that shows some age. There are 3 rivets holding on the solid copper/bronze? handle. The handle tip has a slight curl on the end and there is a small nick on pot rom photo# 11 that is very small. I do not know the age or origin but is seems very old no marking that I can see. Fine bronze depicting Satan carrying a large trunk on his back the trunk is cold painted to show a dark brown wood effect which I have tried to show in the photos. The gold coloured match container door swings open and the recess to hold the matches is actually set deep into the marble base. I can find no makers mark though the inside of the trunk has a old green baize lining to it so it's possible the makers mark could be under the green baize. The quality and quirkiness and size lead me to belive it is most likely by franz bergman. Incredible fine detail and wonderful patina to the whole piece as can be seen in the photos. Undoubtably Austrian with his finely detailed lederhosen and dating circa 1880-1900s in age. Size, total height is 230 mm And marble base is 90 mm by 150 mm showing minor chips see photos. The hinged trunk will hold ... morearound 6- 8 thick cigars or many more cigarettes The trunk measures 120mm tall by 85mm wide by 60mm deep. As you can see the detail and craftsmanship that went into the design of the trunk such as the false lock and the hinged handle as well as the devils detail is outstanding. This is an extremely old early 19th century rare pair of cast iron military men book ends. they are done with a beautifully thick gold gilded finish and have great patina from age. they depicts men from the army or military with colonial-like uniforms. they stand on routed square bases and have their arms propped up on large pieces of wood. the castings are very detailed and the figures even have little spurs on the back of their boots. each measures 6 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches and very heavy. they are both signed on the bottom with very early handmade hardware. they are in nice shape but one of the figures is missing a knife handle. This is a handsome old brass whale oil lamp from a bygone era. It is approximately 6” in height. The drip pan is 3-1/4” in diameter and the oil font is 2-1/4” in diameter. The lamp has no maker’s mark which is to be expected as most antique functional metal items were not marked. We believe that it was produced in England or America. The spurred handle can be seen on brass articles in both the 18th and 19th centuries. However. The shape of the oil font indicates to us an approximate date of 1825. The lamp is cast brass with the various parts being cast separately. There are traces of the names of spices on the lids but all I can make out is nutmeg and ginger. The rest are worn away. The outder tin box or case measures approx 8 1/2" across by about 4" tall total. The spice tins measure APPROX 3 1/2" tall and the grater is approx 3 1/4" tall ... morenot including the loop on top. A couple of the tins still have a little bit of contents remaining-just how I got them. ALL items are being sold together as a lot-nothing will be split up or sold separately. Condition is as shown in the photos. These are very old items so there is obvious& expected wear. RARE ANTIQUE PEWTER DOUBLE WALLED ARGYLE POT 1800s
Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. RARE ANTIQUE PEWTER DOUBLE WALLED ARGYLE POT 1800s Presented is a really neat pewter argyle pot. The double walled pot has a spout on the side that opens so you can add hot water to keep whatever is inside warm. Then whatever is inside the pot is poured out from a spout on the opposite side. This is quite a rare form. This is the first time I have ever seen an argyle pot done in pewter. Usually argyle pots are sterling silver or silverplated. Most of the silver ones are made in the last quarter of the 1700s through the first quarter of the 1800s. I assume this time range also applies to pewter argyle pots. The pot was probably made in the first half of the 1800s or possibly the late 1700s. The argyle pot is not hallmarked. The pot is in fair condition. There is a significant ... moredent on the base as you can see in the last photo. The dent has caused a crack for about 1 1/2 inches in length. This is caused a leak to the exterior double walled portion. The part of the argyle that holds the hot water. This could be fixed fairly easily. But we will leave that up to the new owner. There is no leak to the large interior chamber which would hold the gravy, or whatever else you like. There is at least one other dent to the exterior. The hinged lid covering one of the spouts has been soldered/repaired. The pot is clean on the interior. There are no other problems that I can find. huge antique 1800s hand hammered Tuscan battle copper wall plaque sculpture old
This is a very large antique mid 19th century hand hammered copper Tuscan battle wall plaque. It is completely hammered by hand out of a large piece of copper and has acquired a lovely patina from age. it is done with an abundance of intricate detailing and done in high relief. it is a very detailed depiction of a Tuscan battle with many male. Female, and child figures as well as horses and structures. the copper is then wrapped over a board for stability. it measures 39 1/2 inches by 22 1/2 inches. has normal ware from age. Refer to photos. the board is bending a bit but would frame nicely and would be sturdy. some of the wrapped edges are worn but displays nicely from the front.
