ANTIQUE CAST BRASS STANDING TRIVET ~ c. 1800
You see this handsome old trivet as we found it. This is a trivet for the collector. It is cast brass and is 4 7/8” in height. The rectangular reticulated top measures approximately 9 1/2” x 7 3/4” and it weighs 4 lbs. The handle measures approximately 4 1/2” The trivets’ legs and handle were cast separately from the top. As it is almost always the case. The trivet bears no maker’s mark. While it is possible that the trivet is American, it is much more likely that it is English. When this trivet was in use most of the brassware in America was English made. This trivet can be dated by its’ legs. It was made in the late 18th or very early 19th centuries. We think c. 1800 is appropriate here. A dated trivet with virtually identical legs and feet can be viewed in Schiffer’s“The BRASS BOOK– American. English and European Fifteenth Century through ... more1850” Schiffer Publishing 1978) on page 405, pl. B. As we mentioned. We are selling the trivet as found. All things being, equal we consider it to be in basically good overall condition for a functional item over 200 years old. It is actually fortunate that it has survived. Much of the antique brass& kitchen copper disappeared into the patriotic war scrap drives of the 19th and 20th centuries. This being especially true during World Wars I and II. The trivet is slightly concave which is common to older antique trivets and it is due to years of supporting heavy pots, etc. This causes the legs to be slightly splayed. Two of the legs have play to them although the trivet still functions well. We do see evidence of small hammer marks to the four corners of the top where someone in the trivets history has sought to tighten the legs. Other than the above we see no repairs to the piece. It is still a handsome item and displays well. The top sports an attractive geometric design and the brass handle is an especially nice feature as handles are more often found to be of wood or iron on old trivets. Antique Huge Copper Pot Pan & Wought Iron Handles-Ceiling Hanging Chain-1800's
Up for auction is a rare. Antique, hand made copper pot/pan. It's very large, measuring 5 1/2 inches high and 22 inches across the top. When it hangs from the ceiling, the drop measures 30 inches long. The rim of the pan is rolled and the inside is lined with heavy tin. There are 3 hand wrought iron handles, with copper rivets. The chain attaches to these 3 handles. It weighs between 10-12 lbs. As you can see from the close-up photo's, you can see that there is some wear to many area's of the copper. Also, a lot of little dents and bruises. Not unusual for a piece this old. The photo's are pretty accurate. All together in excellent condition. I purchased this, several years ago, from an antique dealer that was retiring. She told me that this was purchased in France. If you have any questions. This is a Very Interesting Auction of 7 Antique Medicinal Bottles in a Hand Crafted Metal Rack. Age of Bottle show signs of late 1800`s. Early 1900`s. The Top Collar of the Rectangular Bottle was applied separately to the Bottom of the Bottle. Today the bottle seams run continuously top to bottom. The seams give a good idea of the age. Most Medicinal Bottles are of this shape. Used in Pharmacies to hold concentrated liquids. I scanned the bottles closely and miraculously there in only one bottle with a small chip in one of its corners(see photo) The Hand Crafted Rack in Unique in itself. Made of Metal. Steel of sorts. I purchased this years ago at an auction. It was represented as a bronze from the 1700-1800's from England. It is a beautiful piece that measures about 8.5" round and has a depth of about 1.75" The cherubs are beautiful and I have received many compliments on this item. There is writing on the back that is very aged that says"Bronze plaque repouacee' decoration of 3 cherubs. England. Ca 1800. I do not see any makers mark but also would not know where to look for one. Its a very heavy piece for its size and shows little signs of wear. 100% feedback rating, bid with confidence. This is a stunningly rare antique 19th century handmade miniature salesman sample copper pot. it has nice detailing and completely hand hammered and formed from thick copper. it has beautiful copper headless with swirled bottoms which are nicely riveted to the pot with copper rivets. it has a great patina from age and in good shape. measures 2 1/4 inches wide by 1 3/4 inches tall. A classical Dutch antique copper kettle of bulbous shape commonly referred to in the Netherlands as an"Apple" kettle.
