ANTIQUE CAST BRONZE FIGURE ~ “GOOSE GIRL” ~ 19th c.
This cast bronze figure has always been a bit of a mystery to us. We purchased it several years ago and it has been in storage ever since. When we bought it. It nagged our memory as we felt we had seen a example of it somewhere before. However, to date we’ve been unable to identify the piece. It stands a little over 9” in height and measures approximately 4 ½” in diameter at the base. It weighs a little over 6 ½ lbs. The figure is of a girl restraining an indignant goose by the wings. We use the term“Goose Girl” in lieu of a known title. The girl’s clothing and hairstyle appear to us to be from the second half of the 19th century. We’ve been over this piece several times and we’ve yet to find an artist’s name or initials or a foundry mark of any king. You see this casting exactly as we found it. There are residual bits of plaster ... morefrom the original casting process still remaining in the nooks and crannies of the piece. Plaster of Paris residue can also be seen in the interior of the figure(see photos) as well as three sharp metal spikes. While we don’t know for sure. We surmise that these spikes has something to do with stabilizing a plaster core during the original casting process. The piece is in good overall original condition with minimal wear scuffing and no breaks or repairs. This is a very interesting old piece which we still feel that we should recognize. Old Antique Heavy Cast Lead, Bronze or Brass Wash Horse Figure Doorstop Bookend
Here's an interesting old or antique mystery item we don't know too much about. It is clearly very old and has acquired a very nice darkened aged appearance. Our best guess is that this is a doorstop and less likely but possibly was a bookend. It is made of thickly casted metal we think is probably lead or a lead alloy with a bronze or brass finish. Wash or plate. At one time it has a bottom piece hand soldered to it that probably stabilized it better for it's intended use. The piece still stands very well for use as a doorstop or decorative knick knack. It is about 7 inches tall about 4.5 inches wide and about 1.125 inches thick at the base. There is a slight curvature to the casting at the top of the horse head and ears we try to show in the pictures. The casting quality at the back shows some rough areas with slight pits, somewhat ... moreprimitive in appearance that seems to also imply great age and the manufacturing methods of earlier times. The piece is surprisingly hefty at about 4.5 lbs. That's about all we know. The pictures should be helpful to those having interest. We'll start this old cast metal horse figure door stop or bookend low so enjoy the auction. When packed this will weigh about 5 lbs so we'll use one of the USPS Flat rate boxes at a fixed rate of $5.80 as the lowest cost postal alternative to the buyer. 2 Very cute vintage/antique metal mice.Copper/Bronze? The one sitting up is about 1.5" tall the one laying down is about 3/4" tall. I don't know what metal they are made of but they are heavy and they both have a beautiful green patina on top of a copper coloring. I got these when I was a kid from an older family friend Because I loved to collect mice back then. I do not know when they were made. I have had them at least 40 years. I see no makers markings. Antique 16th Century Italian Cast Bronze Apothecary Mortar Grotesque Heads Faces
This listing is for an antique Sixteenth C. bronze mortar of a form most identified with Northern Italy. It has four round heads in relatively high relief alternating with pillars. The mortar measures 2 3/8" tall. 4" wide across the top, and 3 1/8" across the base. It is quite heavy for its size- weighing 30.6 ounces. It is fairly well cast for its age, with some relatively crude finishing showing some worn-with-age but visible rasp marks below the rim. The edge of the rim shows a few areas of cast flashing that has become rolled under from use. The interior of the bowl has some light pitting and old, shallow, use marring- mostly concentrated nearest the bottom, as well as one dark spot in the side that looks as if something caustic had been on there at some point in time. The rim has a few very minor splits, and one very old ... morehalf-inch crack that is worn smooth at the edges. The under side of the base is worn slightly convex(more common on smaller vessels due to rocking during use) Overall, this is a fine example of a 400-plus year old mortar with good honest age wear, in good condition. Antique Cast Brass/Bronze Red Monkey Statue Hindu
This is an unusual cast statue. Probably brass or bronze with various mixtures of alloys. It has a distinct red color that may be painted on or fired, or it may be a wax coating added after firing. It features a standing pointed-head and pointed-ear monkey, knees bent, holding a pointed shaped item downward, with a circular ring at the top. The monkey's tail is looped back and attaches to his back, and could be used as a handle for pouring. The base is heart shaped. It is 9.5" tall and weighs 3.5 lbs, so it is a solid, heavy piece. it is finely cast, with nice detail throughout, especially in the lines that represent the monkey's fur. It may be a rendition of a monkey god from India; however, I do not have any provenance or history of the monkey statue. Regardless. Is it made from Spelter or Bronze? I am unsure of the exact metal that it is made from. There are sections towards the back that have a green tarnish color to the metal. It should be noted that the horse has both of its rear legs broken off. I have shown photographs of this. The horse still can still sit upright with the broken legs. Extremely rare pair of large. Heavy, Bradley and Hubbard antique bookends featuring a thoroughbred horse standing in front of a fence gate. Circa 1920. This set is exquisitely detailed from the horses saddle, bridle, reins, stirrups to the wood grain and latch on the gate. The rear has the classic dimpling from the sandcasting technique used for the cast iron. This is what I believe to be a Meiji period urn of vase top. Cast well in bronze with fine detail. The lucky clouds and the sparrow could also be indicative of an incense burner top. Regardless. These piece stands well by itself and talk about upcycling. There is some damage to the piece that can be seen in the close ups. The top stands 7 1/4" from base to the head of the sparrow, the widest part is 4 3/4" in diameter. The sparrow is 3 1/2" long.

This is an old cast bronze box for carrying betel nut and lime. It is 1 7/8” in height and 2 3/4” in diameter measured at the waist. It weighs approx. 1 lb. It has no maker’s mark so we can’t tell you with certainty where or when it was made. Our feeling has always been that it was from the 19th century. However. It could be older. We lack the expertise to tell. It is also difficult to tell where it was made as betel is consumed in more than one country in southeast asia. The box is essentially a circular with canted sides. A chain is attached to the hinge which allows it to be worn from a belt. The item is in good condition for its’ age and has an old patina. We see an old dollop of solder to the middle of the hinge which may be an ancient repair or part of the original construction. At any rate. In excellent condition. 17" bronze figure of a young French boy whistling with hands in his pockets. He represents"The Whistling Ship's Apprentice" design circa 1898. Le Siffleur" remains one of the more popular bronzes from the late 19th century. He stands barefoot wearing a peasant type shirt loosely tucked into his worn and torn pants which are rolled up and tied at the waist by a piece of rope. He wears a cap with ball atop. The boy stands 15" tall on a 2" bronze base- 5.75" wide- 5.5" deep. The base is signed“MOUSSE SIFFLEUR V SZCZEBLEWSKI” and marked on the left side with a makers mark that reads. BRONZE GARANTI AUTITRE, L.V DEPOSEE, and below the makers ... moremark it is numbered 2685. There is a coin or stamp(pictured) in the base between the feet that I can not read. Szczeblewski was born in 1888 in Poland and studied for 9 years at the Dresden Art Academy. His death was not recorded. He exhibited regularly in the Paris Salons. This sculpture is attributed to have been originally created at the young age of 11 in 1898. The first and most common piece produced was the common 9" version that came on a wooden or marble base. They were created in the 17" and 25" sizes as well which are both much rarer than the original 9" size. Hard to find in such low number. Antique cast bronze renaissance style inkwell 19th century
This cast bronze inkwell is done in the Renaissance Revival style. It is decorated with horns and other musical instruments. The cover to the well is decorated with acanthus leaves. It has an attached gallery on the back. It is 10 ½ inches long. 7 ½ inches deep and 3 ¼ inches high. It is likely French and dates circa 1880. It does not have a well insert. There is some polish residue on the inkwell. There is also a couple of spots that are brown, possibly from a stain.

Up for bid: adorable one solid piece of cast iron. Bronze, spelter, metal of some sort very heavy hippopotamus. I have done some research on this piece but not extensive. It has brought me to possibly being a Bradley and Hubbard maybe around the 20'a or 30's. It has a few little dings one on the base that you can see in the picture under, his chin he has a little chip of paint coming off and on his snout is a black dot not very noticeable in person but showed up in the picture. This candlestick is 7.75 inches tall and has a square base with cut corners. The base is just under 3 inches wide. The candlestick seems to be bronze because the metal has a pinkish cast. There is still some wax inside the holder. The bobeche is a bit bent. The shaft is seamless. There are a few small dings and scratches and a few dark stains. The underside of the base is not finished. There is a pushup mechanism embedded in cork underneath. It is slightly bent and not functional.
