ANTIQUE CAST BRONZE FIGURE ~ “GOOSE GIRL” ~ 19th c.
This cast bronze figure has always been a bit of a mystery to us. We purchased it several years ago and it has been in storage ever since. When we bought it. It nagged our memory as we felt we had seen a example of it somewhere before. However, to date we’ve been unable to identify the piece. It stands a little over 9” in height and measures approximately 4 ½” in diameter at the base. It weighs a little over 6 ½ lbs. The figure is of a girl restraining an indignant goose by the wings. We use the term“Goose Girl” in lieu of a known title. The girl’s clothing and hairstyle appear to us to be from the second half of the 19th century. We’ve been over this piece several times and we’ve yet to find an artist’s name or initials or a foundry mark of any king. You see this casting exactly as we found it. There are residual bits of plaster ... morefrom the original casting process still remaining in the nooks and crannies of the piece. Plaster of Paris residue can also be seen in the interior of the figure(see photos) as well as three sharp metal spikes. While we don’t know for sure. We surmise that these spikes has something to do with stabilizing a plaster core during the original casting process. The piece is in good overall original condition with minimal wear scuffing and no breaks or repairs. This is a very interesting old piece which we still feel that we should recognize. Old Antique Heavy Cast Lead, Bronze or Brass Wash Horse Figure Doorstop Bookend
Here's an interesting old or antique mystery item we don't know too much about. It is clearly very old and has acquired a very nice darkened aged appearance. Our best guess is that this is a doorstop and less likely but possibly was a bookend. It is made of thickly casted metal we think is probably lead or a lead alloy with a bronze or brass finish. Wash or plate. At one time it has a bottom piece hand soldered to it that probably stabilized it better for it's intended use. The piece still stands very well for use as a doorstop or decorative knick knack. It is about 7 inches tall about 4.5 inches wide and about 1.125 inches thick at the base. There is a slight curvature to the casting at the top of the horse head and ears we try to show in the pictures. The casting quality at the back shows some rough areas with slight pits, somewhat ... moreprimitive in appearance that seems to also imply great age and the manufacturing methods of earlier times. The piece is surprisingly hefty at about 4.5 lbs. That's about all we know. The pictures should be helpful to those having interest. We'll start this old cast metal horse figure door stop or bookend low so enjoy the auction. When packed this will weigh about 5 lbs so we'll use one of the USPS Flat rate boxes at a fixed rate of $5.80 as the lowest cost postal alternative to the buyer. This is a wonderful pair of bookends. They are truly like individual sculptures. They are bronze with a marble base and celluloid arms. Faces and feet. As you can see in the photo one of the sculptures is missing part of a arm and her face. She is still beautifully crafted.the marble base is 4" square and they are each 9" tall. Antique brass or bronze man/either croquet player or clock automaton figure
This is a truly wonderful late 1800s or early 1900s solid bronze or brass sculpture of a man. He is either holding a croquet mallet or he is holding a hammer- possibly as part of an elaborate clock automaton. I don't know the origin of this man- it is a mystery to me. In any event. He is great and expertly-made. His torso moves freely so that might indicate that he was part of a game or a clock movement. He is made in three pieces- the head screws off and you can remove the torso. He is 4&1/2" high. Condition is as found and as shown. I would say excellent, with no apparent flaws, and the best patina. All in all, this is just a great piece of art, and possibly an important piece of a fabulous clock. Beats me! But he is great. There is a name on the front of the bench Schane werk? could be the artist's name or a title? and what looks like a number S926? Could this possibly be a Clock Topper? I think this was hand made. Not casted, this is almost entirely made of copper, just her arms are made of brass, this was made in 2 sections. Facing the statue the left side from her right shoulder to her left and her bent arm is 1 section, and the rest being the 2nd section, the brass arms are also attached separately to the torso of the figure. she is holding a dove in her hand which appears to be either dead or injured. Antique metal bookends and figure. Pirate is 8" high and the Knights sit 6.5" high approximately. K& O Metal Novelties Company was in business from 1895 to 1939. They produced colorful and imaginative bookends from gray metal and bronze. They sometimes used celluloid to fashion heads and hands as a substitute for ivory. Use of celluloid in bookends was discontinued in early 1930s when new plastic became popular. Most of their bookends were produced between 1928 and 1935. They produced other novelty items and figurines from 1895 to 1929. K&O’s bookend molds are now owned by Philadelphia Manufacturing.

This sculpture depicts a woman dressed in exotic garb, with her arms outstretched. She is walking down stairs, with a railing behind. It is possibly a depiction of Salome. This would be a rare addition to a collection of vintage European art metal. Identification Beneath the base of this sculpture is the mark of Franz Bergmann(aka Franz Bergman) An urn-shaped mark with a B. It is also marked, GESCH 6429. A very heavy solid iron figure or small statue with its original worn. Painted finish. Its height is approximately 5 inches tall. It is a baby boy with blue eyes and blond hair. He is reminiscent of Rose O'Neill's Kewpie dolls and is painted in a primitive or naive style. He may be a one-of-a-kind object made for a child by a creative foundry worker. It probably dates to the early twentieth century. He is cast in a two-piece mold with seams at the sides.I have done a great deal of online and offline research on cast iron pieces and have found only two items that resemble this one, but neither is a match. One is a larger but very similar Kewpie-style doorstop, c. 1900, valued at over $1500. I brought it home and found out more about this piece. It seems to be in excellent condition. This is an extremely rare large solid cast iron early 1900's nude female statue and stylized version of the birth Venus. The piece is made from solid cast iron and extremely heavy It has a white painted finish. And at the indents of the detailing have nice aged iron look beautifully showing through. She is depicted completely nude. With a very curvy physique, wonderful stretching/ hands in hair pose. The hair has very intricate detailing. she stands on a half shell which is very dimensional and ornate.
