The pewter charger measures 13.25" across x 1.5" tall from the table to the rim. The charger is in excellent condition for its age displaying the original patina. Circa 1740-1780. An almost identical example to this can be found on page 185 of George Nuemann's Early American Antique Country Furnishings. A pusher such as this would have been kept at the foot of an open hearth fireplace. Used to arrange various kettles as well as arranging hot embers. If you've ever been to some reinactment villages such as colonial Williamsburg, you can see these items in place, used to arrange the hot coals under meat cooking broilers. These hand wrought iron scissors date circa 1720-1760, with almost identical examples depicted in George Nuemann's book"Early American Antique Country Furnishings" Page 309, fig 1354) Scissors such as these carried out numerous functions in an early home. From cutting wool off sheep to tailoring clothing, leatherworking, etc. This example is open and moves freely. Note the great hallmark of an"F" within a square near the base of one side of the blade. FINE LATE 18th EARLY 19th CENTURY NEW ENGLAND ANTIQUE IRON TASTING SPOON Description: Great example of a late 18th. Early 19th century blacksmith made spoon dating circa 1790-1840. Spoons such as this are often referred to as'tasting spoons' as they were meant for just that. The bowl of the piece would have been inserted in to a kettle. Iron pot or other hearth cooking device to sample the ingredients cooking therein. The hearth attendant would then vary the recipe they were creating by adding various dried herbs, mortar ground salt or pepper pods, etc. As you can see this example has a deeper ladle, which suggests it was also for serving. As you can see the blacksmith who created this piece worked in a fine overall form with a twist to the handle. Nice smaller size. FINE ANTIQUE CONTINENTAL PEWTER HANDLED PUNCHBOWL 18TH CENTURY GERMAN ? DUTCH ?
Rare Antique Continental Pewter Punchbowl I am not really a pewter dealer. But I believe this old punch bowl is a very unusual form. I think it is beautiful, well designed and finely finished. I believe it is an early 18th century style, and could very well be of the period. Collectors and pewter dealers here on eBay will be able to determine the age from my photos, I am sure. The family had used this bowl as a centerpiece, there was a flower frog attached with clay in the bottom when I got it. The water has oxidized and scaled the interior somewhat, but the condition is otherwise excellent. This large bowl easily holds a gallon of punch. The hallmarks are the angel Michael with sword over a demon with the initials P I S the crowned rose mark appears to also have the I S on the clear right side of the touch. I assume a"P" would ... morebe on the missing left side. These may be maker or regional marks.I am not familiar with pewter marks. Something has been scratched out as my photos show.presumably a previous owner's name or inventory. Antique 18th Century John Jupe Large Pewter Charge English Signed
Early 18th Century Pewter Charger Old estate find from the home of a collector. This is a nice 18th Century Pewter Piece. It was made by John Jupe(1737-1760) in London. It is marked on the back with a touchmark of a rose with a Fleur-de-lis and IOHN above, IUPE below with curved reserves and a palm frond to either side on the underside of the rim. The secondary mark is a rose with crown, above that it says MADE IN and below it should say LONDON, but the London is hard to make out. There is a quality mark of an X with a crown above that is stamped on the underside of the rim between the two marks. The charger has a hook on the back for hanging. It is in good antique condition with a dark ring mark near the bottom and some tarnish on the left rim and a little rough spot. I have not tried to clean it. BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE BRASS STANDING HEARTH TRIVET ~ 18th/19th CENTURY ~ SCARCE
You are looking at an antique brass trivet from the late 18th or early 19th century. We've never been able to date it closer with any certainty as we’ve never seen another exactly like it in over 35 years of collecting such items. We have owned this particular trivet for about 20 years and it comes from our personal collection. It has no maker’s mark which is to be expected as most handmade functional brass articles do not. We believe that the trivet is American or English in origin. It stands approximately 9” in height. It measures 6 ½” across(measured at the feet) and 9 ¾” in depth(also measured at the feet) The top is essentially a 7” x 6” rectangle. The trivet weighs approx. 2 ½ lbs. This trivet is different in a couple of ways. First. All four legs are brass and frequently standing trivets of this type have back legs ... moreof iron. Second, the front legs may be unique. We have never seen trivet legs of this shape before whether in brass, iron or copper. This automatically makes this trivet a scarce, if not rare design. As if the shape of the front legs weren't interesting enough, if you look close you will see that they terminate in“penny feet” We have seen penny feet on certain types of American andirons but we've never seen them before on this type of trivet. The top of the trivet is also quite wonderful. It has a scalloped over lapping edge with design cut corners. The center of the trivet is highlighted by a reticulated six point star suspended in a circle with each branch of the star pierced with a single hole. These six holes themselves form a circle surrounding a single hole in the dead center of the star. The four corners of the top are also decorated with a pierced or reticulated“X” in each corner. The trivet is in good overall original condition especially considering its age and that it is a functional item that was likely in daily use. It is. ANTIQUE HAND HAMMERED COPPER SAUCE PAN ~ DOVETAILED ~ 18th/19th c.
This is an antique copper sauce pan for the collector of old kitchen copper. It is approximately 4 ¼” in height with a top diameter of 8” and a handle length of 8 ½” The pan is heavy and weighs approx. 3 lbs. It holds a little over 3 quarts in liquid. The sauce pan is entirely handmade and has a tinned interior and a handmade copper handle which is secured to the body by a heart shaped mounting with three copper rivets. The pan is of dovetailed construction. However. Where generally the body is joined by a single vertical brass braised dovetailed seam, this piece is seamed vertically on two sides. This is not particularly common. The bottom is also dovetailed as you would expect. In addition, the pan bottom has an old dovetailed patch where it was once repaired. This is a country piece and would have been too valuable to discard ... moreif there were a hole in the bottom. Instead it was more cost effective to have the pan repaired by a smith or traveling tinker. The repair on this pan is nearly as old as the pan itself. Having lasted all this time it has become part of the bona fides of the pan. Overall. This sauce pan is in good condition for its’ age. It has all of the usual dings of generations of use and wear but no dents. The handle is tight and the rivets are secure. The body of the pan still plainly shows the planishing or hammer marks used to create it. The item is not marked as to who made it or when. Most antique kitchen copper is not marked so this is no surprise. The fact that the pan is a country piece and handmade complicates the issue since the construction techniques were the same for generations. Based on our own experience, we would think that this sauce pan was made in the late 18th or early 19th century. This is a nice old item which has been displayed in our home for many, many years. Rare Antique 18th C Iron Flint Striker Strike A Light Decorated Rev War NR Description: Very Rare 18th Century Figural Flint Striker(circa 1750-1790) What a great size and form on this period strike-a-light. As you can see the formation of the design is a donkey or small horse; a rural form, undoubtably done in homage to the farm animal. Flint strikers were used with small amounts of tinder to create a flame. A piece of flint would have grazed the underside steel edge. Most commonly strikers are a"C" or oval shape. But on occasion, one is lucky enough to uncover a figural example. This particular one has been in a collection for over three decades, and was displayed in the center of the collection. NICE 18th 19th C Colonial Antique Wrought Iron Scissors Shears
7 1/4" Long x 2 3/4" wide An almost identical example can be seen referenced on page 309 of George Nuemann's book"Early American Antique Country Furnishings" fig 1364) Nice example of a high quality pair of blacksmith made shears likely dating circa 1750-1780. Scissor shears such as this were used for a variety of functions such as to cut various articles of cloth. But also could have been used in leather work as well. As you can see they were expertly crafted with the smith working pieces of straight iron into large finger loops. Note the early center rivet and thick blades. Some slight pitting from age. Blacksmith made, this period lighting holder dates from the mid to late 18th century, circa 1750-1790. Spikes such as this would have been hammered into the wall and beams of early homes for the purpose of supporting a grease(betty) lamp. Lantern or other lighting device via the bottom support hook. As you can see the blacksmith who originally made the piece worked in some great decorative elements. Antique 18th? Century Pewter Salt
This small item is Pewter and is in the shape. Design and function similar to a sterling one that I have that dates to 1720, the sterling one(not for sale) was made by Georg Leonhard Fern in Nuremburg GE and has been dated to 1720's. Thus I believe this to be a early 18th century pewter salt or continental design. It is hallmarked with what looks like an angel holding a scales or something. It is as found. 2 1/4" x 2" dia at top stands about 1 1/4" tall shipping is an estimate for the system and actual may be less once item is packed and weighed for your zip code. ANTIQUE pair 18th Century 1700s LOUIS the XVI Period FRENCH Brass Candlesticks
Guaranteed to be original and as described- Antique 18th Century Mid to late third quarter 1700's Louis the XV French seamed brass candlesticks. Candle holders with bobeches. In photo eight I show a close up of the seam on the side, the base is coated with tin as original authentic 18th century period candle sticks should be. Both candle sticks unscrew from the base and are in their original condition, they have never been altered.SIZE: 10 1/2 inches high by 5 1/2 inches wide/across the widest part of the base bottom. CONDITION: Fine condition, there are n o chips.Cracks or repairs. As you can see from the photo's there are a few spots of green verdigris colored wax that does come off. There is wear in places to the original gold gilding finish. Very early. Antique, deep basin bowl in pewter, of a good size, having the owner's initials H.H. on the handsome rim. A reed scored. Turned under edge for secure carrying, a character filled well w/ an old repair(most probably from soft metal being set on a hot stove or hearth) And partially visible touch mark of: double circles w/ possibly a figure. And letters EB and EN of maker's name visible. Bowl is a simple utilitarian Dutch form. But, could be American, English, or German. Dimensions: across outer edges of collar: 9 and 1/4 in. Two early drink-ware vessels. A handle-less beaker cup, and beaker w/ fancy handle, both ca. 1790-1840 range. American or English, unsigned, unknown origin, sourced in Connecticut in mid 1900s antiques excursion. Both w/ fine scored decoration. The handled one having two early hole repairs. Seen as'dot bumps' both w/ great and obvious age/use character. The dings and dents from +/ 200 years, measurements: handle-less: 3 and 1/16 in. tall. Antique 18th century LG ?Stuffing Serving Spoon Pewter Crowned Shield 4 lions
I am not a pewter expert and the information on the internet is not easy to research. I believe this to be English and 18th century. I base this on my better knowledge of antique silver and styles of spoons. This looks to be the Hanoverian pattern. Which according to the net, dates from about 1710+. This looks to have been a utilitarian LARGE serving spoon, perhaps used on a ship or other place where large numbers of people were served. It shows dings on the sides of the handle from prior use. It looks like(pic 3) that it has been spot repaired in the past where you can still see the remnants of an old crack. A nice clean silvery spoon of unknown hallmark and history that would be a nice addition to a display of antique pewter. Hallmark looks to be a crowned shield with 4 lions walking left in the upper part of the shield. I can't tell ... morewhat is below the lions in the shield. Below the shield looks like HIS. Antique Elaborate 18th Century Copper Vessel for Liquids
Description: An antique copper vessel for holding or heating liquids. The vessel is15.25 inches tall and quite heavy at 3.3 Kg. It appears that it was meant to go from fire to table as it decorated with incised and hammered details. The patina is quite dark and the copper is only visible underneath. It is quite old and dates pre-1800s. Condition: Patina and wear in the form of some indentations from use. This week we are offering a large estate collection of antique copper cookware.
