The 2 outer holes are about 3/4" deep& the center hole goes up into the block at least 1/2 way up or more. Im guessing this is so the block can be placed on a stand/post of some sort. Head portion of the block measures 6 3/4" tall x 7 1/2" long x approx 6 1/2" wide(tough to measure on the curve) The base measures 7 1/2" long x 6 1/4" wide x 3/4" tall. It is affixed with two bolts. It appears that there was some writing towards outer perimeter of base but it's mostly rubbed away& unreadable. No other markings that I can find. I have no idea how old it is but it's definitely vintage. I purchased a lot of 3 vintage hat blocks from the estate of a woman who was a skilled dress& hat maker. She moved to Florida 30+ yrs ago from New York so perhaps the blocks came from there? Block has a really nice patina to the wood and no damage(chips. Cracks, repairs) The lighting is off in the pic of the bottom so it's not true to color. Block has pin holes and tool marks from useage on the head as shown. Recently widowed, she left her house as it was, came to Oregon and said she was never going back ... morehome. She died about 6 years ago. And we have just begun the process of going through the boxes ourselves. It is an arduous process. Some items will go to concession dealers. I have decided to write this, and when a bit of provenance fits, I will include this introduction. These items were collected many years ago by a very sweet and knowledgeable lady. I don't know what kind of wood it is. But it is very heavy. It is stamped with the manufacturers name. But I can't quite read it. It is" something) hat blocks N.Y. It is stamped with identifying numbers 185 and 424. It is also stamped" front" and"22" which is the size. You'll see in the photos that one side of the interior has a bit of backwards newsprint. Probably left after resting on the paper. This rustic millinery industrial mold is probably from the 1940s or 50s and it is in excellent condition with only the wear and tear from real use.

As with any old wood piece, there are scratches, scuffs and other blemishes that come with a long journey. My favorite nuances are the faded lettering on the inside sections of the pieces when the mold is separated. The only condition issue that I would like to point out is that somewhere along the line. Wood millinery hat block telescope square crown & small flat brim
This pair of blocks consists of a small flat brim and a telescope crown. The brim has a circumference of 26" and a diameter of 8" Even though it is probably from the 1940's it is in fairly good shape with just a couple of minor dings along the edge that could easily steam out. The brim also has a second rope line about an inch underneath the top one. This would allow you to create a brim with a small bumper or a rolled edge. With this particular crown the finished brim size varies from 1/2" to 1" The crown has seen quite a bit of wear as can be seen from the photos. The peg holes had broken through and have been repaired. It was covered in so much lacquer that you could not see the rope makes near the top. Most of the old finish has been stripped away(that is why the color is uneven) and it has recently lacquered. ... moreBut it is not in the best condition. Along the tip are a couple of serious chips and to use the rope lines would require care. Also the head size is only 21" Normally the rope lines along the top edge allow you to steam the tip into the crown forming a telescope shape, but this give a very shallow crown, only about 2 1/4" high. This would be fine if used without the brim for a fasinator shape and then the small head size would not matter. It could also be blocked without using the rope marks along the top and then the crown's height would be 3 1/2" which is much more respectable. Wood millinery hat block reverse profile brim & lifter
This is a reverse brim where the crown is either pushed into the center of the brim to form a one piece hat or the the crown and brim are blocked seperately and then attached together. This profile brim has been repaired with wood epoxy to fill in some major cracks on the front of the brim and cover worn sections on the inside that occurred from multiple tacks holes. The silhouette is wonderful. So it was well used over the decades. The circumference of the brim is 42" and the head size is 21" but it is very easy to stretch this shape if necessary. The brim measures 4 1/2" in the front and 3" in the back. A crown can be pressed into the center for a total depth of 5" and the overall height including the stand is 7" I did not have a matching crown for this shape, so I am including this particular lifter because ... moreit fits nicely into the brim. This way you don't have to tack the body around on the inside if you don't want to( I never liked to) The lifter says 22 1/2" but it only measures 21" It is also incised with the manufacturer, Able Hat Bock Co. Both pieces have been recently lacquered.

Size 23 Antique Vintage Wood Millinery / Hat Block Mold #796 / Balsa wood
You are looking at a Wood Millinery Block/Mold manufactured by Midwest H. B. D. Co. Hat Block and Dye) Chicago. This is a basic style crown block crafted out of balsa wood. And stamped with model number 796 and size 23 inches. It can be used for displaying hats or for making hats. From front to back. The block measures 7 5/8” Side to side measures 6 3/4” The overall height is 7 5/8" tall and the circumference of the block is 23" Making it a very useful size. This is a balsa wood block that is in original USED condition. The wood shows some wear and use. But is still in great shape. And certainly in excellent condition to still use. Please see photo.

Vintage Millinery Hat Block Antique Mold Form Hat block is made of Balsa Wood. It has a solid wood base that head sits with the#23(circumference of the base) is stamped into on the front. It has 3 holes drilled into the bottom. The 2 outer holes are about 3/4" deep& the center hole goes up into the block at least 1/2 way up or more. Im guessing this is so the block can be placed on a stand/post of some sort. Head portion of the block measures 6 3/4" tall x 7 1/2" long x approx 6 1/2" wide(tough to measure on the curve) The base measures 7 1/2" long x 6 1/4" wide x 3/4" tall. It is affixed with two bolts. It appears that there was some writing towards outer perimeter of base but it's mostly rubbed away& unreadable. No other markings that I can find. I have no idea how old it is but it's definitely ... morevintage. I purchased a lot of 3 vintage hat blocks from the estate of a woman who was a skilled dress& hat maker. She moved to Florida 30+ yrs ago from New York so perhaps the blocks came from there? Block has a really nice patina to the wood and no damage(chips. Cracks, repairs) The lighting is off in the pic of the bottom so it's not true to color. Block has pin holes and tool marks from useage on the head as shown. Wood millinery hat block 2 round crowns & large flat brim & lifter
This is a nice set of 4 pieces. The taller crown has a head size of 22 1/2" and is about 4" tall. At its base it measure 6 1/2" from front to back and 6 1/2" from side to side. The lifter fits this crown very well and also has a head size of 22 1/2" It is 1/2" thick and would raise the height of the crown by this additional amount. The shallow crown has a circumference of 24" even though the measurement 22 1/2" is incised on the bottom. It has a diameter of 8' front to back and 7" side to side. The lifter doesn't fit this crown. Also there is a 3/4" long shallow divot on the top. It won't show much on a felt or velour body. But might on a fine straw. The brim has a circumference of 46" and measures 15" from front to back and 14" from side to side. The block's ... morepeg holes allow crowns to be placed in either direction. This was a well used brim, as can be seen by the hundreds of tack holes around the base, and several chips occurred along the edge. Many of those have been repaired with wood epoxy, but the edges are still not completely smooth. All four pieces have been recently lacquered and I am including one peg with the set.

Vintage 6 piece wood, puzzle block, hat making form/mold, hat size 22" NYHB Co.
This is a vintage. Wood, 6-piece puzzle style, hat making form, weighing in at 10 pounds. There is a very solid base, shown in photo#8, a front& a back, shown in photos 7, 8, 9) 2 sides pieces(shown best in photo 7, off the form) and a top piece(photos 1& 2, on the form, and photos 8& 9 off the form) This form is 11 3/4" tall, measures about 21" around the bottom of the TOP of the hat form. The top layer swivels, as it has a wooden pin inserted, which also comes out. This"pin" is about 2" long and about 1/2" diameter(shown in photos 5-8) Photos 2& 3 clearly show the entire hat mold/form put together. Photo 4 shows the bottom of the crown/top of the hat form. Photo 5 shows the top of the bottom 5 pieces, looking down at it. Photos 6- 9 show the base 5 pieces in various stages of assembly. On the ... morebottom of the form, is"NYHB Co. and many numbers: 4414, 22, 445. It appears that this makes a hat for a 22" head size. Telescope form? I honestly don't know what this means, even though I've tried to research this on-line& have looked at many other listings. If anyone would explain this term to me, I'd be grateful! Antique Art Deco S.H. & Co. 2 PC Millinery Wood Block Hat Fedora Form Mold
Great Antique art deco S.H. Co. two piece millenary wooden block fedora hat forms/molds. I picked this up at a local estate. So not sure of the history behind this piece, but it's very unique. As you can see in the pictures, there are some signs of age and wear. I can't read what it says in the center of the middle mold piece, other than a couple of words. It is marked, S.H. Co. on the side of the rim as you can see in the photos. It has several markings on it, I wasn't able to get pictures of every single item. The markings on the brim mold are as follows, 24, 7 1/8, 2 1/8" the center mold is marked"7 1/8" 5 5/8" There is also a marking that says, Fedora" The brim mold measures 12 1/4" long by 10 1/2" wide and about 2 3/8" high. Up for your consideration is a wonderful vintage wooden hat brim form/mold. With a slightly worn, dark stained finish.it is in over all nice vintage used condition and a great piece of the past.Usual wear in the wood for over the years(for more condition description, please refer to above) It is a hat oval shape. With a indent inside as seen in the photo, and a narrow groove along the bottom of the outer edge.There are 2 holes with a metal insert on the back of the mold, perhaps for attaching it to a platform. The numbers 7 3/8 and 915 are etched in the side of the wood(hat size? and the maker's mark Brand is also etched in the side of the wood. The hat form measures: 12 1/8" long x 11" wide. It is about 2 1/4" thick. This is a nice piece of a bygone era. And would display great! VINTAGE All solid wood millinery hat form/ dome. Reads#296 on the bottom which is with a metal cap. Also 6 and 5/8th" but I also see 5.5" as well. I am thinking that is its size. Using a flexible tape measure. I measure 21" around the outside at the bottom. This is with great color and no odor like mildew. No large chunks missing from the soft wood. Vintage Wood Hat Block Form From Dumke & Ulm Chicago IL
A vintage hat form/block from Dumke& Ulm of Chicago. IL in very used condition. Still solid and usable with no personal marks. Made of what appears to be poplar it has numerous pin marks from use. The is some light cracking of the wood from age. It is 20" in circumference at the widest spot, has a rather flat top and is 6 1/2" from base to top. Antique vintage ladies millinery wood hat block / mold, beautifully made
This is from a collection of hat blocks acquired from the estate of a French milliner who came to the U.S. 1940s. And is a particularly beautiful one in its intricate construction and shape- it's my personal favorite of all I've offered for sale. I can't be certain of the date, but it is most likely from the late 30s/early 40s. Very solid, the form is constructed with a central"X" structure through a core cylinder, the outer shaped pieces varying in thickness from 1" to about 3/8"see photo details, difficult to describe! This is a gorgeous object with a lovely patina and it has obviously been used, so it has pin marks, a few nicks, scuffs, and discoloration toward the top(where the wood is darker) Stamped with a number"847" on side, it measures 22" circumference at base, 13" circumference ... moreat top edge, and is 6-1/4" high. Wood millinery hat block reverse brim & fascinator / pillbox / skullcap crown
This reverse brim is small. Fits close to the head, and turns up in the front. I do not have the matching crown, but do have a round crown skullcap that fits the interior of the brim so that it can be pushed through so that you don't have to make a two piece hat and tack around the interior. The perimeter of the brim measures 35" and the front is 4 1/2" and the back 1 1/2" from the headsize to the outside edge. The interior circumference is 23" The crown can be pressed down to the stopper for a maximum height of 5" but of course you can adjust the depth to your liking. The overall height of the brim including the base is 10" There are several old cracks in the brim that have been repaired over the period of several decades. The brim seems solid and should be able to be used for several more decades. The repairs ... moremay show on fine straw bodies. The crown is a close fitting pillbox/ skullcap, or it could also be used as a base for a fasinator. It dips down in the front and back and slopes up on the sides. If you use it on its own please note that the hole for the spinner has a piece of piping in it that sticks out about 1/4" I did not want to remove it in case it broke the block but it you are using it on a table rather than a spinner, it is not level. Both pieces have been recently lacquered to prevent sticking and staining.

Wood millinery hat block round crown & large brim
This large brim and round crown are a classic shape for a'picture hat' often seen at horse races or weddings. The crown has a 22" head size and is about 4 1/2" tall. The brim has a circumference of 50" and measures 5 1/2" in the front and 3 1/2" in the back from the crown to the edge of the brim. As you can see from the photos the brim is well used with multiple tack holes in the base and the spinner has worn a hole though the center. This means that it would have to be blocked on a table. There are several fine cracks running lengthwise on the brim but should only be noticeable on a delicate straw body. Both pieces have been recently lacquered and one peg is included.

It doesn't appear to be a balsa block but it is fairly light weight and appears to have a wood grain.
