The pages inside are still bound with the original sewn string. Although we did not see a publication date, this booklet came out of a large collection of business ephemera from Carhart& Curd, a hardware store in Macon, Georgia that ceased business long before 1900. The printers of this booklet were Baker& Godwin, No 1 Spruce St. NY. The booklet is full of small illustrations from engravings showing the various scales and accompanied by the sizes available along with testimonials about the superior accuracy and quality of the Fairbanks scales. All pages intact and the sheets in clean condition- no brittleness or deterioration. The paper cover shows some soiling- more on the back cover than the front. Edges of the cover are a little worn. We ship paper items in stiff packaging to keep them safe in the post. It would have been used years ago by the local grain elevator to weigh grain samples to establish moisture content. It measures 10 ½ inches long. The copper pail is 2 ¾” in diameter and 3 ¼” deep. The pail measures 6 inches tall including the handle. It has been lightly cleaned and is in excellent condition. I have shown as much in pictures as possible. Antique large 7 3/4 inches x 11inches Fairbanks 1920 Mill. Mine& Railway Catalog#916. The bad news: Corners slightly bumped and worn. Top and bottom of spine shows some shelf wear; some toning around edges of pages. railroad The good news: Very clean and tight. 92 years old. 902 pages of very cool collectables profusely illustrated. Many pages of engines. Small and large. Pages of carbide lamps and kerosine lanterns. 24 pages of scales from delicate pharmacists scales to scales that could measure railroad cars. Tools of all kinds for just about every trade both hand and powered. The Company began producing oil and naptha engines in the 1890s. The Fairbanks gas and oil(kerosene or fuel oil or diesel fuel) engine was a success with farmers. Irrigation. Electricity generation, and oilfield work also benefited from these engines. Small lighting ... moreplants built by the company were popular. Fairbanks Morse power plants evolved by burning kerosene in 1893, coal gas in 1905, then to semi-diesel engines in 1913 and to full diesel engines in 1924. Overall very good condition with some minor chipping from age and use. There are small chips around the mounting holes and just a few within the sign. A rare Fairbanks Scales advertising paperweight produced for their Centennial in 1930. It features a miniature scale pan made of nickel-plated brass. The base reads"Fairbanks Scales" and on the sides are the years"1830-1930. Measures 5.75"l x 2.25"h. Condition: The pan has dents and dings as shown in the photos. There's a void in the soldered seam that connects the pan to the base and there's also some glue on the seam where someone repaired it. See all photos. This auction is for these antique Fairbanks Blance Scales. They must have been for weighing grain, the brass double bars have 1000 lbs. on both of them. they have been cleaned up a bit but will need further cleaning, they look good as is. There are no cracks, chips or repairs on these. They weigh close to 20 pounds and most of that is brass, they are 37 inches long and 7 1/2" wide.
