Antique 1898 American Family Kitchen Scale by American Cutlery Co. It does work but. It probably needs some cleaning inside to make it work more smoothly. I did put a 32 oz bottle of Windex on the scale and it showed a little over two pounds. The adjustment knob in the back does move up and down, I don't see it adjusting the weight though. There is some paint missing but, that ia to be expected from an 114 year old scale. This scale never has a glass front, the way you see it was the way it was manufactured 114 years ago. We found this beauty hanging in a basement some time ago. And judging by the dust on it, that had been its home for a LONG time. It needs a good clean-up. These were used to weigh anything from produce to hardware in general stores years ago. It has been refinishe d in a nice yellow brushed finish giving it a nice vintage/antique look. There are some minor scratches that add to the character of the p iece. The scale itself is adjustable and was accura te. I used a rope and hung a 5 p ound weight while I held i t up. Crystal that protects the scale dial curves outward and is in very good condition with no cracks and just a few very tiny scattered scratches. A small spot on the body where the white plastic case has yellowed a little with age. A few paint chips along the bottom edge of the metal base. With a few spots of rust, all as shown in the pictures. The plastic body is a little dirty beneath the platform and could use a cleaning. The two brackets on the bottom underside of the platform to which the scale mechanism uprights insert are slightly damaged. One of the brackets has a crack in it. And the other bracket has a small piece of plastic broken off. I have shown ... morethis in the pictures. This damage does not affect the operation or structural integrity of the scale, as the platform is still held firmly in place. You cannot see the damage unless you take off the platform and inspect the underside. Up for your bidding pleasure is an original green American Family 25 pound scale in working condition. As you can see from the photos it is off about a 1/2 pound but it does register the weight of things. I wouldn't use it for your baking projects but it is a very cool item for your kitchen. The face plate is in good condition with the American Family Scale still intact and readable. There is also a label on the side but it is not very legible. I believe it is from the 1950s and I am a particular fan of the curved metal base(most comparable scales I have seen have rectangular ones) Sparkling clean with just the right amount of wear to give it a worn but cared for feel. Description This is a vintage American Family Scale. It is approximately 8" x 8.5" x 6.5" The front says American Family Scale Weigh 25 pounds by ounces Not Legal in Trade. The scale sits a little past zero. It has a red top with a cream body. There is some discoloration and paint loss from age and use. There does not appear to be any damages or repairs. We are charging a handling fee of $5.00 for insurance and packaging materials. We tried to document any and all damage in our photos.
