The computer company) IBM purchased the ... moreDayton Scale Company in 1933 and sold it to Hobart Manufacturing Co. in 1934. So this scale was built in about 1933 and is about 81 years old. What a history and what a great item to have if you like to display(or even use) antiques like this. As you can see in the photo, the Dayton and IBM names are printed right on the scale. The scale is Style No. 167 and has a 5lb capacity with weight reading on one side and computing sale price information on the other side. Both scales are protected by glass which is fully intact. There has been no restoration of this scale. It is, with normal wear and tear, in its original condition. The scale is 15" high by 15" long by 4" wide and weighs about 20 lbs. The tray is 12" by 8.5" by 3" The circular green inspection label on the front of the scale reads that the scale was inspected for proper calibration during June 1940 by a Belmont, MA inspector. The serial no. of the scale is 1065767. The scale is in good working condition(the moving parts do so smoothly) however, it has not been calibrated in recent times. This scale is a rare find which can be restored or simply left as is shown in the pictures.

Not only is this a super cool antique but this scale was used in the famous McCrory's Five& Dime Store in York County. PA. There is a lot of info on google about McCrory's Five& Dime History! Just think how many little kids had their candy weighted on this scale. Just think of their excitement as they watched and waited for the clerk to weigh the candy and give it back to them! Unfortunately the scale has seen better days! It appears to be in fine working order but it really could use a good cleaning. We are not going to attempt to do anything to this scale, we'll leave that all up to the buyer. We do not want to take a chance on damaging any part ... moreof this lovely antique! The scale is so old that the labels are all worn or have rubbed off, over time. There is one large label that was on the main arm of the scale and the only text we can make out is"York County, PA" There is no info on the manufacturer of the scale. The only thing we can see is where you read the weight, EXACT WEIGHT printed across the top. We did some research on the Exact Weight company and seen other scales that are almost identical. We are 99% certain this scale was made by Exact Weight but please realize that there is a chance we could be incorrect. We are not scale collector's or experts. We are doing out best to describe this piece but please ask any questions and view photo's for the best and most accurate description. The scale is missing two of the weights. The two missing are the two smallest out of the five. On the bottom of the scale there is the number 1001. We do not know if this helps with researching this scale. Antique GEM No 5 Cast Iron Candy General Store BALANCE SCALE W/5 Brass Weights
You are bidding on a vintage Antique CAST IRON SCALE. In used condition. Solid& sturdy in good shape. The brass pan/scoop has three small cracks on the edges, I tried to show the largest one in a picture. From a doctors estate it was on display in his office& looks like it was refinished at one time. One end has a brass scoop& the other end has a flat cast iron pan. The Scale is heavy& measures approx 12 3/8" long x 3 3/4" wide x 9" tall. The base reads: GEM No 5. There are 5 different size Brass weights that fit into holes on the base that are marked on the top: 1/4- 1/2- 1- 2- 4. The numbers stand for ounces. Decorative neat old cast iron scale. Resembles those scales used in general store for weighing candy. Seeds, etc. The scale measures about 16" long by 7" wide by 6" high with the pan on. The base without the pan measures about 10” long by 5” wide by 4” high. The scale has a removable metal scoop pan. It is too heavy to be tin but I am not sure what it is made of. The pan measures approx. 12” long by 7” wide by 2 ¾” high. I can not find any markings as to maker. There are 4 weights that are not marked. I feel the scale is in very good condition. It was painted black with the gold pan by a previous owner. The pan has some some scuff marks. Again this is a decorative scale. Not made for actual use. It weighs 6 to 7lbs. As you can see in the pictures It has a inspection tag on top from 1940 Cincinnati Ohio. Shipping is based on the weight and oversized shipping size. ONLY ONE FOR AUCTION OR SALE ON EBAY* Up for bid or purchase is a vintage Dayton Hobart scale that was found in an old storage trailer that had everything from slicers to kitchen trickets to cookbooks from my aunt's old candy and deli store. There may be some similar to this on ebay. But I've yet to see this model number, nor one in such nice shape. Some more specifics. measures approx. 10-1/2" in width, 20" in length(front to back) and 29-1/2" in height, with the platform itself being 11" square, and the top of the scale being 17" in width; is a 10-lb. scale with increments marked at every ounce at the top(picture#6) HOWEVER- as seen in picture#3- has numerous lines with many other increments and measurements; has the pointer/rod that's marked 2 to 40 and has markings such as"2-1/2 2 for 5, 3 1/3 ... more3 for 10, 6-1/4 4 for 25" etc; has a plate on the back that states"Manufactured by Dayton Scale Division- The Hobart Manufacturing Co. Troy OH USA- Serial No. 1318274- Model 200- Cap'y 10 lb" picture#7) has another plate that is stamped out that it was inspected in Feb. 1989; has some sort of bubble-like level in the back of the platform(picture#9) and has a label on the front that shows it was serviced by Toledo Scale Co. in Wilkes Barre Pa. picture#12) Is in unbelievably great shape for it's years. I believe it to be made of porcelain over cast iron; has only one chip in it(about 1/2" in diameter) on the back edge as seen in picture#4, but can very easily be painted over; the numbers and name are still vibrant and clearly visible; and the glass, yes GLASS, is still intact! I'm leaving the brand new Rotosound Short Scale strings on it. $30.00 value! Here's the problems and blemishes. 1)There are 4 bridge holes in the(Alder)body below the bridge(see pictures) 2)The edges of the neck have been trimmed and I noticed that it doesn't quite fit like it should. It's slightly loose side to side. I did tune it after reassembly and the neck was solid and held full string tension. But it's not quite right(I must be honest here) 3)The machine head holes were drilled out to fit the larger elephant ear tuners. To reinstall the original machine heads I cut some PVC piping and used it as a sleeve. They are ... moresolid. Notice the larger washers that are on the head in the pictures. They cover-up my sins! 4)Two holes are drilled in the pickguard for a thumbrest. 5)Finish crack at the neck pocket. The guitar came with this and I inspected it and the body looks good. Just a finish crack. All in all though these Jaguar style bodies. Especially the short scales, are hard to come by. And the neck is still useable. Use it for parts or do a restoration. Antique 4 lb. Fairbanks Counter/ Candy Scale with Brass Tray 3 toed Crows feet Looks to be in great shape for its age. It has two seals from the Vermont Weight and Measures Division. The last being from 1959 and a wire lead seal at the base. I cannot make out the other seal date which is older. The scale has a number on the bottom of 7438 and a number on the rim above the seal which is 2491. It also has 4 LBS on one of the upper arms. I cannot see any model number or name. It measures 14" from base front to the end of the brass weight scale, 4" across the base and 5.5" from crow tip to crow tip. Measures 9" from base up to tray arms. The tray is 9" across and 12.5" long. This scale weighs just under 8 lbs. Hi there. I am selling an antique National Store Speciality Co. candy scale with fancy filigree base made in Lancaster. Pennsylvania. The scale is in great unrestored condition. The glass is original without any chips or cracks. It is made of cast iron with no damage or repairs to the metal, however I think it is missing a cap that would have once covered a screw under the weighing scoop. It has its original removable scoop with no holes, but several oxidation marks. The shield on the front of the scale is marked NATIONAL STORE SPECIALITY CO. LANCASTER PA. The scale works perfectly and weighs up to 2 pounds. It also has a chart for calculating cost on items from 10 cents to 60 cents a pound. It measures(not counting the tray) about 10 1/2" in height by 10 1/2" in width by about 4" in depth. The tray measures 10" by 5 1/2" ... moreby 3" in height. The compost(candy dish) has 2 dangling crystal missing in the back which is why i am selling them together. It says on bottom of marble, crystal lead, made in Germany. Very Pretty together. Nice old over under scale made by the Exact Scale Co. and so marked on the back with a metal tag. The scale has an aluminum body and is a type 114 with a 3 lb capacity. The serial number is 99525. The scale comes with its' original scoop and 6 weights. The weights are a plated iron or steel and the set includes two 1 lbs, an 8oz, a 4oz, a 2oz and a 1oz. The weights have a fitted shelf on the front of the scale where they are stored. Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 The scale is in good working condition but may need an adjust. It needs a cleaning and there is scattered oxidation on the aluminum and rust on the weights. We have not cleaned or polished the piece. The last inspection was in 1980.
