There are some nicks in the paper where you would read how much the egg weighs and the size category the egg falls into. None of this affects reading everything that is there though. This colorful egg scale. Manufactured by the Cyclone Mfg. Co. between 1940 and 1950, graded the size of eggs for retail sales. For use by poultry farmers and small country stores, the grading was done by hand on a red-painted metal scale that designated small, medium, large and extra-large eggs. The charming scale was made by Cyclone in Urbana. Indiana, but the trademark was registered by Jiffy-Way Products of Mineapolis, Minn. The graphics on the base of the scale, which measures 8 inches long, 5&1/2 inches high and 3 inches wide, features the"Cyclone" logo flanked by two tiny, yellow chicks. Antique Vintage Reliable Mfg Co Egg Scale on Pine Base Earliest Model Circa 1890
Condition: Antique(123 yrs approx. condition. The lacquer on the wood base has bubbled making it difficult to read the stamp. Here is some information I have found from two different places: 1. Maker: Reliable Mfg. Co. Los Angeles, CA, USA Date: c1890, Description and Notes: This is an early example of the well known Reliable Egg Scale. As the patent of which was still pending when it was on sale. The fact that the cast iron frame of the scale is attached to a wooden(pine) base which is cut to fit the top of an egg crate also indicates its early state, as the later ones all came with a cast iron base. Another uncommon feature of this scale is that the manufacturer's emblem ink stamped on and surface of the base and that on the have all been preserved and still clearly visible. As indicated. VINTAGE ANTIQUE CHAMPION EGG SCALE IN THE ORIGINAL BOX SEEMS TO BE MADE OF COPPER IT WEIGHS EGGS AT 19. 22, 24, 26. THOSE NUMBERS ARE MARKED ON THE SCALE. THE PAPER LABLE ON THE SCALE IS HARD TO READ BUT YOU CAN MAKE OUT CHAMPION EGG SCALE ON THE TOP& SOME TYPE OF DIRECTIONS? THE BOX HAS ONE CORNER WERE THE ORIGINAL TAPE HAS TORN, BUT THE BOX IS SOLID OTHER THAN THAT. COOL OLD PIECE. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. I will combine shipping if I can do so safely. Fragile items will mostly be shipped Priority. Lighter items fist class. Local pickups are always welcome, as are international bidders. For international bidders we can save on postage if your item weights under 4 pounds and it can be sent first class. The vast majority of the items I sell are vintage and/or pre owned.
