The 2 outer holes are about 3/4" deep& the center hole goes up into the block at least 1/2 way up or more. Im guessing this is so the block can be placed on a stand/post of some sort. Head portion of the block measures 6 3/4" tall x 7 1/2" long x approx 6 1/2" wide(tough to measure on the curve) The base measures 7 1/2" long x 6 1/4" wide x 3/4" tall. It is affixed with two bolts. It appears that there was some writing towards outer perimeter of base but it's mostly rubbed away& unreadable. No other markings that I can find. I have no idea how old it is but it's definitely vintage. I purchased a lot of 3 vintage hat blocks from the estate of a woman who was a skilled dress& hat maker. She moved to Florida 30+ yrs ago from New York so perhaps the blocks came from there? Block has a really nice patina to the wood and no damage(chips. Cracks, repairs) The lighting is off in the pic of the bottom so it's not true to color. Block has pin holes and tool marks from useage on the head as shown. Probably left after resting on the paper. This rustic millinery industrial mold is probably from the 1940s or 50s and it is in excellent condition with only the wear and tear from real use.

Recently widowed, she left her house as it was, came to Oregon and said she was never going back ... morehome. She was an avid and well known antique dealer and collector in Los Angeles in the mid to later 1900's. We moved over 700 boxes of items from her house. Along with many pieces of furniture. 1 of her pieces has been on the Antique Road Show. I built a 7000 sq. foot building to accommodate all her collections. She never opened a box. She died about 6 years ago. And we have just begun the process of going through the boxes ourselves. It is an arduous process. Some items will go to concession dealers. Some are given away, some things donated, some are kept and some things are offered here. I used to write a bit of the history at the beginning of each ad. I have decided to write this, and when a bit of provenance fits, I will include this introduction. These items were collected many years ago by a very sweet and knowledgeable lady. Antique Millinery Wood Hat Block Form Mold - Empire Hat Block Company
Listed for your consideration is an antique millinery wood hat block/form/mold– composed of five sections. Engraved text on the bottom front reads: EMPIRE HAT BLOCK CO. NY 6414 FRONT 22 Hand written numbers in pencil or red color reads: 63 I am no expert. But I believe this is a healthy piece of millinery history with a handsome patina. As with any old wood piece, there are scratches, scuffs and other blemishes that come with a long journey. My favorite nuances are the faded lettering on the inside sections of the pieces when the mold is separated. The only condition issue that I would like to point out is that somewhere along the line. Someone replaced the screwed supports that hold the five sections together. See photos. The photos may not perfectly capture the nuances of this fine piece. Antique Vintage Wooden Hat Block Millinery Crown Mold Form
You are bidding on a vintage wood millinery crown block. Mold No. 910X. Size 21. Approximately 6" tall at highest point. A very useful crown block in a classic shape. It was a well-loved block and has quite a few pin holes from use as well as a bit of water damage on the front. Water damage will not effect the finished hat. It also has a great patina. Antique Wooden Millinery Hat Block 2 PC Form Mold w/Base (3217 x 22)
Vintage Millinery Hat Block Antique Mold Form Heavy Wooden Hat block(crown/tam/dome? style) with large affixed base stamped 3217 x 22(circumference of base) Head has a circumference of 24" at the widest berth. The number 2030 handwritten on the base. And there's a maker's mark on the top in white lettering, but it has worn off& I can't make out the words. I'm 98% the first word is 5 maybe 6 letters long, starts with an'R' and ends with an'OM' The other two words are unreadable. The block is constructed with 2 sliding interlocking pieces, secured with screws on each side. Some of the screws have been removed so the 2'halves' slide apart along a metal fastening bar. Hat portion of the block measures 7 1/2 tall x 7" long x 6" wide(tough to measure on the curve) Base measures 7" ... morelong x 6" wide x 3" tall(front) 2 1/4" tall(back) with 3 holes for stand on bottom. I have no idea how old it is but it's definitely vintage. I purchased a lot of 3 vintage hat blocks from the estate of a woman who was a skilled dress& hat maker. She moved to Florida 30+ yrs ago from New York. Wood has a GREAT coloration& block is in Really Nice Condition for a working piece of this vintage! We bought this several years ago and it has been sitting in our attic for 15 years. We are not sure the time period. My husband feels it was used between 1890-1920 and possibly is a derby hat mold. The base has the number 2864. The rim has numbers 901st. 71/8, and 2 3/8. The mold is in 3 pieces with the block being a 2 piece puzzle. There are scratches and some imperfections. Great Antique art deco S.H. Co. two piece millenary wooden block fedora hat forms/molds. I picked this up at a local estate. So not sure of the history behind this piece, but it's very unique. As you can see in the pictures, there are some signs of age and wear. I can't read what it says in the center of the middle mold piece, other than a couple of words. It is marked, S.H. Co. on the side of the rim as you can see in the photos. It has several markings on it, I wasn't able to get pictures of every single item. The markings on the brim mold are as follows, 24, 7 1/8, 2 1/8" the center mold is marked"7 1/8" 5 5/8" There is also a marking that says, Fedora" The brim mold measures 12 1/4" long by 10 1/2" wide and about 2 3/8" high. Using a flexible tape measure. I measure 21" around the outside at the bottom. This is with great color and no odor like mildew. No large chunks missing from the soft wood.
