Up for sale is a beautiful The Printype Oliver Typewriter. Cosemtically this machine looks nice and is all original. It is missing one of the tape covers as pictured. All of the keys work smoothly but it does not seem to forward without some coaxing. This piece came out of a local estate and all I've done is wipe the dust off. I can't tell you if it works 100% since I have not been able to test it for fear of forcing it to work. I do know that the keys work fine and the carriage needs to be cleaned. Manual measures approximately 9 1/4 by 6 inches. 12 pages(unnumbered) + covers. Cover is soiled and has some chipping along edges. Interior pages browned with age spots. Some ink stains on cover as well as on bottom of pages. However. No tears, no writing, solid spine and soiling does not interfere with any print. I've seen a number of No. 5 typewriters. ca 1907 Oliver No 5 Standard Visible Typewriter-Green-No Backspace-Octagonal Key
Here is an old Oliver No. 5 Standard Visible typewriter. Made in Chicago, Illinois by the Oliver Typewriter Company. This model was made between 1907 and 1914. The typewriter has a serial number of 267911, and no backspace feature, which dates it earlier rather than later in that time span. It's called a"down-strike" typewriter because of the way the keys are made, to strike downwards from the"towers" they form. It has octagonal plastic keys in a 3-row QWERTY keyboard. Each key has 3 characters-Capital, lower case, and a figure or number. It's called a Visible typewriter because the typist could see what he/she was typing. The base of the typewriter measures 11" x 14" and it is about 12" tall. We tested all the keys and about half of them stick-they don't just pop back up when released. And several ... moremore work very stiffly-you have to push the key hard to make the striker come down. When you type, the carriage doesn't move-it stays in one place. You can move the roller by pushing the tab button, or a leaver on the right. It still has the little dinging bell on the back. We don't know what all the levers should do so it may have other operating defects as well. It has some scrapes and scratches to the finish, and it needs a good cleaning. The underside shows no rust on the metal parts. There is a spool with cord on the back and one end of the cord is just hanging loose. Probably Ca 1920's, Oliver Standard Visible Writer No. 3 Typewriter. The typewriter is marked"MANUFACTURED BY THE OLIVER TYPEWRITER CO CHICAGO USA KEEP MACHINE CLEANED AND OILED" on the metal plate behind the platen. The bottom front rail reads"THE OLIVER No. 3 STANDARD VISIBLE WRITER" The condition of the machine is as found and as seen in our photo's both above and below. There is typical overall soiling, dirt and a bit of scattered rust. The paint seems to be intact except for some very minor losses. There are no ribbon spool covers. The lettering and name decals are excellent with only the most minor wear. The underside of the typewriter is very clean so it's mostly cosmetic ... morecleaning to the upper surfaces that is needed. Please refer to our photo's for a good first hand look at the condition of the machine. The top and bottom right hand keys are stuck. Otherwise, all of the keys and other moving parts all seem to function. The machine is not currently working because the carriage return spring is unattached. It does appear, however, that the keys and other moving parts all seem to function properly. Please also note that we have not cleaned the machine other than to dust it off and will leave the decision to do so or not to the new owner. The machine looks to be complete and with a proper cleaning, polishing, lubrication and just minimal care should be perfectly usable. The original case cover is included but there is no wooden bottom. Overall the machine seems to be fairly scarce, it displays great and will make an excellent addition to someone's collection, shouldn't it be yours! Antique 1914 Oliver No 7 Printype Standard Visible Manual Typewriter Serviced Description: Up for sale is this estate rescued beautiful Oliver No 7 Printype Standard Visible Writer Typewriter! This typewriter is working very well for its age as seen in the YouTube video at the end of this description. When we recovered this typewriter it was in pretty rough shape. None of the type hammers would move. None of the keys could be depressed and the carriage was locked up. We have cleaned out the machine. Freed and lubricated the linkages, carriage and hammers. We then installed a new old stock black ribbon, adjusted the carriage draw band as well as the platen so the type hits squarely and now this machine really works well! The machine does have some minor problems. First off the right margin stop is missing. The back space spring was missing ... moreso we fabricated one that does the job but is a little weak. The under rollers have some flat spots but still roll well and allow for easy paper feeding. The platen roller has some marks from over typing. But it is not cracked and still supports the paper well. This model take a little getting used to as there is no key to the right of the"L" key so your right pinkie is just hanging out in the air when touch typing! The action on this keyboard is very good the the age of the typewriter. We currently have a 1913 Remington also up for sale and this Oliver. Just a year younger, types much better than the similar age Remington! You can see by the type sample in the last photo to the left that this machine still types very well. This is an antique Oliver green military No. 9 visible writer typewriter. All of the keys seem to function and the typewriter moves when it is supposed. For the age it is in very good condition with some minor rusting on the surface and could use a better cleaning. I do not know much more about these. But seems like a great old typewriter.
