The pages inside are still bound with the original sewn string. Although we did not see a publication date, this booklet came out of a large collection of business ephemera from Carhart& Curd, a hardware store in Macon, Georgia that ceased business long before 1900. The printers of this booklet were Baker& Godwin, No 1 Spruce St. NY. The booklet is full of small illustrations from engravings showing the various scales and accompanied by the sizes available along with testimonials about the superior accuracy and quality of the Fairbanks scales. All pages intact and the sheets in clean condition- no brittleness or deterioration. The paper cover shows some soiling- more on the back cover than the front. Edges of the cover are a little worn. We ship paper items in stiff packaging to keep them safe in the post. Description. Up for auction is an antique Fairbanks Grain Scale. This scale is in excellent shape, and I believe was used in a grain buying terminal to be used in weighing a sample for tests such as moisture, grade, and wieght per volume. This scale is mainly brass construction with only a few steel parts. The wieght on the arm of the scale has many marking which I believe may be yearly inspection marks, it is also marked with"Fairbanks" and also a crown with a"CR" inside ... moreof it. The wieghing arm measures 13.5 inches and is marked"Imperial Bushel" and a"59" on the underside. The brass bucket is marked"24 H" and has the same crown mark, it also is marked B.S.M Imperial Quart No. 64252, it measures 5 inches high and about 4.5 inches across. The arm and bucket wiegh a total of 5 pounds 4 ounces. I believe this scale was made in the 1910s or possibly early but I do not know for sure. Over all I believe this scale is in excellent shape, we have left any cleaning or polishing process up to the buyer, some prefer polished and if you are like us like items in their natural state. RARE UNUSUAL ANTIQUE FAIRBANKS CREAM TESTING SCALE !
I don't think it is for eggs though those prongs would certainly work great. The weight measurements are 0. 3, 4 1/2, 9,18G. There are two levels plus the fine adjustment weight on the beam. It is embossed fairbanks on the iron base as you can see. The levels are not broken. The scale does need some cleaning but I don't see anything broken anywhere- just needs a little elbow grease. I would love to learn more about this one. If anyone would like to share what this scale is used for- please let me know. This scale measures 11 inches in length and 5 5/8 inches to the tip of the prongs. Thanks to a very helpful eBayer we know this is a cream testing scale.See his message below. Painted black in color with gold trim. From the information that I have gathered. It is from the late 1800's to early 1900's. Under the tray on the base is the number 7885. This is a 605 because it has a 4 lb. capacity.by a 1/2 oz. I think it probably had a set of weights that you set on the platform to balance it out. I do not have these. It measures about 12" tall at pan. 12" wide at pan. and 24" long. Working Antique Fairbanks Doctors Scale Iron & Steel Great Restoration Project
This auction is for a Fabulous Antique Doctors Scale in Very Heavy Iron and Steel made by Fairbanks. It would make a Perfect Restoration Project. It appears completely intact. Including the adjustable height measuring rod that measures someone up to 78 inches tall. And it is in working condition and in fact is very accurate based on my tests. The scale will measure someone's weight up to 300 pounds. There doesn't appear to be any breaks or damage to the scale. There are several coats of old white and whitish paint as you can see from the photos. You can see. Although faintly, the old Fairbanks logo beneath the paint at the top of the scale(see last photo) It is also marked Fairbanks on the weight bracket at top. Here's your chance to get your hands on a super rare Fairbanks scale. In my opinion this scale has the best hand painted details that you will find on Ebay. The colors are great and most of the hand painted details are 95% there. The quality of the calligraphy is beyond most of the stuff you see these days. It has the Fairbanks name cast in a wavy banner flag design. I believe it goes up to approximately 10 ounces or so. It is fully functional and in great as found condition. Antique Fairbanks Scale 185? Iron & Brass Mercantile Platform & Scoop Countertop
Up for sale today is a very old E.T. Fairbanks Scale. I think it is a Store or Mercantile scale because it has both the platform and the scoop. The casting reads"E& T Fairbanks& Co. St. Johnsbury VT. Patented July 24 18? It looks like 1852 or 186? I can't make it out and don't want to do any more than to wipe it down. About 24" long and 13" wide at the platform. Overall width with the beam or balance is about 24" The scale is made of cast iron, except for the dual beams, which are brass. It has a holder for a scoop or pan at the top of the scale, kind of a combination platform/ scoop scale. Each Brass beam has a poise, it also has the capacity for a hanging weight at the end of the beam. The brass pieces have a slight bend to them, it looks like they could be straightened rather easily but I will leave ... morethat to the new owner. This is a vintage Fairbanks. Morse and Co. 1 pound balance scale. It was made in Chicago Illinois U.S.A. Its code is 557 SPEC, its capacity is 35 lbs. Its serial number is G468289. The scale is still in great shape for its age, with a very mild fine rusting. It has a logo tag on it but its in alittle ruff shape and i cant really read it but with some research im lead to believe it says Soiltest Inc. but im not 100% sure. This Fairbanks scale is in excellent condition. It is cast iron. With gold pinstriping on the base. The name Fairbanks is embossed. It is an equal arm balance with porcelain plates. Antique 4 lb Fairbanks Counter Candy Scale with Brass Tray 3 toed Crows feet
Antique 4 lb. Fairbanks Counter/ Candy Scale with Brass Tray 3 toed Crows feet Looks to be in great shape for its age. It has two seals from the Vermont Weight and Measures Division. The last being from 1959 and a wire lead seal at the base. I cannot make out the other seal date which is older. The scale has a number on the bottom of 7438 and a number on the rim above the seal which is 2491. It also has 4 LBS on one of the upper arms. I cannot see any model number or name. It measures 14" from base front to the end of the brass weight scale, 4" across the base and 5.5" from crow tip to crow tip. Measures 9" from base up to tray arms. Antique fold-out illustrated sales brochure for Fairbanks Standard Scales. 5 1/2" by 15 1/2" bright yellow paper printed on both sides and folded into fifths, printed by Baker& Godwin, NY. THe back side was reserved to advertise the retailer- Carhart& Curd of Macon, Georgia. This brochure came from a collection of C&C business ephemera stored in the 3rd floor of the former hardware store for more than 100 years. The condition is immaculate- you might think it is new but we guarantee the age and origin. The illustrations taken from engravings are beautifully detailed and this brochure could be opened out and framed. A wonderful addition to a collection. We ship paper items in protective packaging. FAIRBANKS - Antique Brass and Cast Iron Scale with on/off scoop lever
Fairbanks Antique Scale- Cast Iron and Brass. I'm not sure of the year but I know it's old. It has a little rust on the top of the scale. It seems to still be accurate. It comes with 4-1 lb weights as seen in the photos. There is a lever that flips over from scoop on to scoop off. The scale with weights weighs just under 15 lbs. Please refer to photos.
