There are some that don't. I think this machine has not been used in quite a while and could use a cleaning. Cosmetically. It is a beautiful unit with only light wear marks. The keys are bright with strong lettering. It looks complete and ready to restore. I could not find another of this model on Ebay selling OR sold in the past 6 months. This manufacturer of office machines was founded in 1918 by Carl Buehler. A Chicago merchant who already owned a chain of retail stores called Buehler Bros. Victor Adding Machine made the first portable desk calculators. Between 1921 and 1925, Victor's annual sales jumped from less than $300,000 to nearly $2 million. From the 1920s through the 1960s, the adding machines were manufactured at its main plant at on North Rockwell Street in Chicago. Albert C. Buehler, a son of the founder, led Victor for many years. During World War II, when the company served as a military contractor, the number of workers at the North Rockwell plant increased from about 350 to 1,400. After the war, the company continued to grow. Annual sales rose from about $5 million in 1946 to $28 million in 1956, when Victor was selling printing calculators and enjoyed ... morea one-quarter share of national market for adding machines. Between 1918 and 1958, the company manufactured 1.5 million calculators. In 1961, the Victor Adding Machine Co. merged with the Comptometer Corp. of Chicago, a smaller but older company. Comptometer was a new name taken in 1957 by the Felt& Tarrant Manufacturing Co. which had been founded in Chicago in 1887 by Dorr E. Felt and Robert Tarrant. This pioneering adding machine maker had been an industry leader in the 1930s, when it employed about 200 men and 200 women at its North Paulina Street plant in Chicago, but by 1960 Comptometer was only half the size of Victor. By 1968, Victor Comptometer owned 18 plants in the United States and Canada and employed about 8,000 people worldwide. In 1969, when Victor sold its electronics division to Nixdorf, a German company, it effectively abandoned the adding machine market. In 1975, when annual sales exceeded $200 million, the company still employed about 1,300 people in the Chicago area. This is a beautiful antique American Adding Machine from the American Can Company based in Chicago. IL. It has a wonderful patina on it. The serial number on it is 17510. It is a beautiful piece. It is extremely old and heavy. This item is as is. The levers do work but it is not in pristine condition. Please ask any questions or request more pictures before bidding. I don't know anything about this but I did add some numbers together and it did add and subtract. Both handles function. There is a metal slide tab on top for either adding or subtracting and another metal slide tab that slides down to an"R" mark. Left side handle clears the numbers and right handle activates adding or subtracting. The total is displayed in the front of the calculator. Antique Early 1900's Golden Gem Automatic Adding Machine
Check out this sweet antique Golden Gem Automatic Adding Machine. Manufactured in the very early 1900's(circa 1907) this was basically a very primitive calculator. Relatively small in size. This would have fit nicely in sophisticated gentleman's coat pocket back in the day. Who needs an IPad when you can have one of these bad boys? Makes a very cool display piece. The machine consists of eight rows of numbers ranging from 1 to 9. Beside each row is a small chain. Which when moved with a stylus or other small instrument, changes the numbers along the machine's top row. We're not exactly sure how you' actually calculate anything on this, but it does appear to be in working order. There's also a brass reset button on the lower right that, when turned resets the top row of numbers to all zeroes. Cool huh? Has two folding ... morelegs on the sides that allows you to stand the machine up. As seen in the photographs. The legs work great and can be folded up and down very easily. Finally, etched into the machines lower front surface is the following patent information: Pat. Mar.1-04- Mar. 27- 06- Mar.19-07. United States and Foreign Patents Pending. Machine is being sold as is. We’ve tested it and it seems to still be fully functional. But we're not 100% certain. Measurements(When lying flat. With legs not extended) 4” tall x 5.5" Wide(including reset knob) x 1" Thick. Item Condition- Great vintage condition! Has a wonderfully weathered patina with spots of light rust and light scuff marks peppering the machine's surface. One small screw is missing on the lower left front side. this is an allen wahles adding machine 4 main didget adds and substracts to the 10.000.00's. I belive this thing will work when it is cleaned off. i have not had the time to do it. the buttons go through the key pad. so they are to toppers. this predates 1947 as allen wahles was sold to the national typerwriter company in 1947. this will be a great piece for vintage use. i strongly belive that when tooken apart and cleaned it will work great!

Victor Adding Machine. Circa early 1920s, and in the Burroughs Pike style of the same period. Burroughs really had the market with their style 3(Pike Model) and Victor may have been intimidated by patent infringement threats by Burroughs. Patented June 20th 1919- April 13th 1920. In mid 1920s Victor dropped this model and concentrated on the plastic housed manual models instead. This is in very nice un-restored original working condition. Very hard to find one any nicer! Antique Burroughs Hand Operated Office Adding Machine # A946903
This rare antique Burroughs Hand Opearted Adding Machine with Visible Printing has been in storage for over 65 years. Dating from the time the restaruant user closed his business. At the base in the center to the right of the name Burroughs is a small# A946903. If my internet research is correct, then this is an A model, and the numbers were assigned in order of production. 946903 according to company records was manufactured between 4/1924 and 7/1925. The caveat was that the machines were not always sold within that time frame. The machine is approximately 13 x 9 x 8 inches and weighs 21-22 lbs.All levers and buttons are in excellent working condition, and the printer appears to be working as well, since Photo 3 has the numbers I entered. I did not attempt to do any computations. Please note: Photo 4 shows to the right of the two white buttons ... morean oblong button at the base of the manual lever, slightly off the keyboard. I believe this is a"minus" operation key or tab. I believe originally(before 1920) this function came as a lever to the bottom right of the machine.Photo 3 shows the spool for the ribbon and the printing area. The machine is a dark dark brown and the kety plate is the same color but a dufferent finish. Photo 2 shows the 8 key system and that the keys are all present and in excellent condition. Very nice Victor electric adding machine. It appears to input numbers fine however when I try to get a total it prints a blank line. When plugged in(there is no power switch) it produces an oily smell- this could be normal for the age but I would suggest an expert look it over inside and out. Electromechanically. It appears sound otherwise. I tested it for about 15 minutes and it did not jam up on me. Bakelite case is in good condition. Selling as is due to its age. This is a Vintage Adding Machine called The Brennan. as far as I know it is very rare and is actually an earlier version of a more widely known adding machine. It is dirty and needs cleaning. Missing 1 button and the sliding lever in front. There is a mechanism in place to hold both of these items. The large lever on the side is operating the plates but that is all I know. I was up north w/ 5 danes and 1 evening we went to the antigo history museum in an old carnegie library building. i spent my time exploring the place + taking photos of all the stuff they had + in the front area they had several adding machines like this one, but nicer. besides the dust, a lot of the black coating has worn off. i tried taking the cover off, but something was keeping it on. the crank can be taken off easy tho. oh yeah, i wanted to clean the windows. maybe you can figure out how. the crank clears the#s you add with the main button on the top. i guess this was sort of a business thing for penny purchases. buy 5 7¢ items + hit the(5)7 button. i imagine the innards are cool looking IF you can get in it. heavy.

Here is a Vintage Burroughs Portable adding machine in great condition. Comes with a cover and manual both from the same manufacturer as well as a inked ribbon and paper roll. It could use a cleaning underneath the keys and the cover is rather dirty. But other than that it shows very little sign of use. In fact the ribbon still has ink and I was able to run through some number sequences as shown on the final photo. The number 8-1201307 is stamped below the key pad. All keys move nicely as well as the handle which engages the keys to print on the ribbon. I do not know enough about this machine to fully test the adding process yet. This is a 19th century wooden"shoebox" comptometer that was made by Dorr E. Felt& Tarrant manufacturing co of Chicago.in 1891. The serial# is 924. A relatively low# according to some online sites. There is one screw missing top left, two each on the left and right sides. There are two cracks in the wood on the left side at the bottom and one at the top of the box. There is a"dig" out by the dovetail at the top. There are surface scratches. It appears that something was splashed on the top and sides at some point. I did not clean the machine, as I did not want to affect the patina. Needs cleaning. The celluloid keys are missing and all the keys can be pressed down. There is a spring missing inside the bottom as well as the middle piece of wood on the bottom. Please see photos for condition. I am not mechanicaly inclined, ... moreso I can not tell you if it is working. Despite all of the afore mentioned, it really is amazing for its' age. It measures approx. 7 9/16"across the bottom including the knob. It is approx. 14 1/2" tall and 4 3/4" deep including the keys. According to some online sites, this 1887 USA patened"mechanical calculator" adding machine was the first key driven that was commercially successful. It was manufactured from 1887 to the mid 1970s. The earliest are made of wood with celluloid keys and were produced from 1887 to 1903. According to online sites, there were approx. 6500 of these made, but approx. 90 are known to exist. The earliest models are in the smithsonian, several in musuems, and the rest privately owned. As best as I was able to research, this comptometer with serial# 924 may be one of the first 26 machines with serial numbers known to exist. This would be a great addition to any collection. Vintage Burrough's ADDING MACHINE electric antique commercial big heavy 31 pound
This is a vintage Burrough's adding machine. It is marked on lower front. I do not know much about adding machines but will describe as best I can. It seems to work to me but I do not know how to properly test all of its functions. The keys are all present and seem to work. It needs a new ribbon. 3 of the 4 feet are present with just the foot mounting metal present on the fourth(see photo#9) To me this machine looks complete except there may be some type of handle missing on the side where someone has added a socket(photo#5) It is about 13 inches long. 8 1/2 inches wide, and 9 inches tall. An antique Burroughs electric calculator from around 1930. It seem to work. But I am not familiar with how it should work. A couple of the keys are sticky and need to be pulled back up wen depressed but the large majority work. Heavy machine weighs about 19 pounds. All keys intact, nice graphic design of letters. This Ve- Po-Ad is manu fa ct ured by the Reliable Typewriter and Adding Machine Co. from Chicago IL. It is a very old p ocket adding machine with a faux leather cover and aluminum stylus to operate the machine. Th is looks like it was used a great deal. The cover shows use. Scrapes. Wear on the top. Edges and corners. The metal faceplate of the Ve- Po-Ad is metal and shows some ru st. The columns of numbers move easily with the s tylus that is there. The stylus fits in the side of the Ve-Po-Ad. National Adding Machine Low starting price.no reserve! This item is in rough shape. Found in a garage. It is rusty and the glass is cracked. The handle is split, but moves down. The keys seem to go down and pop back up with the button, but I do not know about the complete functionality. I can't find a serial number on the piece. Measures about 17" long x 9" wide x 9" tall to the handle. This item was found in a garage. I cannot say that it functions now or will function correctly- it needs restoration.
