I have used aluminum foil to fill in the spots then covered the block with foil before using. It also has a great patina. Perfect for the at-home or professional milliner. She was an avid and well known antique dealer and collector in Los Angeles in the mid to later 1900's. We moved over 700 boxes of items from her house. Along with many pieces of furniture. 1 of her pieces has been on the Antique Road Show. I built a 7000 sq. foot building to accommodate all her collections. She never opened a box. She died about 6 years ago. And we have just begun the process of going through the boxes ourselves. It is an arduous process. Some items will go to concession dealers. Some are given away, some things donated, some are kept and some things are offered here. I used to write a bit of the history at the beginning of each ad. I have decided to write this, and when a bit of provenance fits, I will include this introduction. These items were collected many years ago by a very sweet and knowledgeable lady. NY 6414 FRONT 22 Hand written numbers in pencil or red color reads: 63 I am no expert. But I believe this is a healthy piece of millinery history with a handsome patina. As with any old wood piece, there are scratches, scuffs and other blemishes that come with a long journey. My favorite nuances are the faded lettering on the inside sections of the pieces when the mold is separated. The only condition issue that I would like to point out is that somewhere along the line. Vintage Millinery Hat Block Antique Mold Form Heavy Wooden Hat block(crown/tam/dome? style) with large affixed base stamped 3217 x 22(circumference of base) Head has a circumference of 24" at the widest berth. The number 2030 handwritten on the base. And there's a maker's mark on the top in white lettering, but it has worn off& I can't make out the words. I'm 98% the first word is 5 maybe 6 letters long, starts with an'R' and ends with an'OM' The other two words are unreadable. The block is constructed with 2 sliding interlocking pieces, secured with screws on each side. Some of the screws have been removed so the 2'halves' slide apart along a metal fastening bar. Hat portion of the block measures 7 1/2 tall x 7" long x 6" wide(tough to measure on the curve) Base measures 7" ... morelong x 6" wide x 3" tall(front) 2 1/4" tall(back) with 3 holes for stand on bottom. I have no idea how old it is but it's definitely vintage. I purchased a lot of 3 vintage hat blocks from the estate of a woman who was a skilled dress& hat maker. Vintage 6 piece wood, puzzle block, hat making form/mold, hat size 22" NYHB Co.
This is a vintage. Wood, 6-piece puzzle style, hat making form, weighing in at 10 pounds. There is a very solid base, shown in photo#8, a front& a back, shown in photos 7, 8, 9) 2 sides pieces(shown best in photo 7, off the form) and a top piece(photos 1& 2, on the form, and photos 8& 9 off the form) This form is 11 3/4" tall, measures about 21" around the bottom of the TOP of the hat form. The top layer swivels, as it has a wooden pin inserted, which also comes out. This"pin" is about 2" long and about 1/2" diameter(shown in photos 5-8) Photos 2& 3 clearly show the entire hat mold/form put together. Photo 4 shows the bottom of the crown/top of the hat form. Photo 5 shows the top of the bottom 5 pieces, looking down at it. Photos 6- 9 show the base 5 pieces in various stages of assembly. On the ... morebottom of the form, is"NYHB Co. and many numbers: 4414, 22, 445. It appears that this makes a hat for a 22" head size. Telescope form? I honestly don't know what this means, even though I've tried to research this on-line& have looked at many other listings. If anyone would explain this term to me, I'd be grateful! Great Antique art deco S.H. Co. two piece millenary wooden block fedora hat forms/molds. I picked this up at a local estate. So not sure of the history behind this piece, but it's very unique. As you can see in the pictures, there are some signs of age and wear. I can't read what it says in the center of the middle mold piece, other than a couple of words. It is marked, S.H. Co. on the side of the rim as you can see in the photos. It has several markings on it, I wasn't able to get pictures of every single item. Here is a great old. Super heavy duty cast iron hat stretcher. It has a derby shape but can be used for any type of hat including fitted baseball hats. This will fit any size hat form circumference 20.5" size 6) to circumference 26.5" which is off the chart at about size 10. The main body of the machine is heavy cast iron and the base is copper. This is great because it has reverse threads- when you rotate the crank clockwise, a standard thread like on a vise, would draw the jaws close. Up for your consideration is a wonderful vintage wooden hat brim form/mold. With a slightly worn, dark stained finish.it is in over all nice vintage used condition and a great piece of the past.Usual wear in the wood for over the years(for more condition description, please refer to above) It is a hat oval shape. With a indent inside as seen in the photo, and a narrow groove along the bottom of the outer edge.There are 2 holes with a metal insert on the back of the mold, perhaps for attaching it to a platform. The numbers 7 3/8 and 915 are etched in the side of the wood(hat size? and the maker's mark Brand is also etched in the side of the wood. The hat form measures: 12 1/8" long x 11" wide. Vintage Wood Hat Block Form From Dumke & Ulm Chicago IL
A vintage hat form/block from Dumke& Ulm of Chicago. IL in very used condition. Still solid and usable with no personal marks. Made of what appears to be poplar it has numerous pin marks from use. The is some light cracking of the wood from age. It is 20" in circumference at the widest spot, has a rather flat top and is 6 1/2" from base to top. This 110 volts/300 watt machine will stretch a hat from one size to the next size up. The hat sizes range from approximately 6 1/8 to 8 which would be 19 1/2" to 26" The cord is original with 2 prongs. Cleveland OH” and size“ 7 ½” This is a great extra large size crown block to have on the shelf! The circumference at the base of the block is 24” It stands 5 1/2” tall. From front to back. The block measures 8 1/4” Side to side measures 6 3/4” This is a solid hard wood block that is in original used condition. The wood shows some natural wear and push pin holes.
