It has a solid wood base that head sits with the#23(circumference of the ... morebase) is stamped into on the front. It has 3 holes drilled into the bottom. The 2 outer holes are about 3/4" deep& the center hole goes up into the block at least 1/2 way up or more. Im guessing this is so the block can be placed on a stand/post of some sort. Head portion of the block measures 6 3/4" tall x 7 1/2" long x approx 6 1/2" wide(tough to measure on the curve) The base measures 7 1/2" long x 6 1/4" wide x 3/4" tall. It is affixed with two bolts. It appears that there was some writing towards outer perimeter of base but it's mostly rubbed away& unreadable. No other markings that I can find. I have no idea how old it is but it's definitely vintage. I purchased a lot of 3 vintage hat blocks from the estate of a woman who was a skilled dress& hat maker. She moved to Florida 30+ yrs ago from New York so perhaps the blocks came from there? Block has a really nice patina to the wood and no damage(chips. Cracks, repairs) The lighting is off in the pic of the bottom so it's not true to color. Block has pin holes and tool marks from useage on the head as shown. NY 6414 FRONT 22 Hand written numbers in pencil or red color reads: 63 I am no expert. But I believe this is a healthy piece of millinery history with a handsome patina. As with any old wood piece, there are scratches, scuffs and other blemishes that come with a long journey. The number 2030 handwritten on the base. And there's a maker's mark on the top in white lettering, but it has worn off& I can't make out the words. I'm 98% the first word is 5 maybe 6 letters long, starts with an'R' and ends with an'OM' The other two words are unreadable. The block is constructed with 2 sliding interlocking pieces, secured with screws on each side. Some of the screws have been removed so the 2'halves' slide apart along a metal fastening bar. LARGE Vintage Industrial Solid Wood Millinery Hat Mold Number 29 Lots of oldees for you this week- some very cool and very old primitives. Fabulous retro industrial, wonderful original artwork, and even some deco thrown in- there’s something for everyone! I think you might need to break out the"10 Gallon Hat" for this big boy- it's the largest old hat mold that I have ever seen. Made of solid wood. It has the number 29 stamped on the bottom by the rim on one spot, and you see it hand written(in what looks like wax pen) on the underside, along with the number 796 in front of it. The mold measures 8 1/8" one way across the bottom and 8 3/4" across the other way. I don't have a cloth tape measure, so I pull my old metal one as hard as I can to get a circumference. I'm coming up with 29" at the center- again- ... moregive or take a little for my tape measure. The mold is in excellent solid and sturdy condition, and it weighs 3 1/2 lbs. It shows some minor finish wear, dark spots, light spots, minor scratches, scrapes and several teenie pin or nail holes that I'm showning in photo 6- it was used. Vintage 6 piece wood, puzzle block, hat making form/mold, hat size 22" NYHB Co.
This is a vintage. Wood, 6-piece puzzle style, hat making form, weighing in at 10 pounds. There is a very solid base, shown in photo#8, a front& a back, shown in photos 7, 8, 9) 2 sides pieces(shown best in photo 7, off the form) and a top piece(photos 1& 2, on the form, and photos 8& 9 off the form) This form is 11 3/4" tall, measures about 21" around the bottom of the TOP of the hat form. The top layer swivels, as it has a wooden pin inserted, which also comes out. This"pin" is about 2" long and about 1/2" diameter(shown in photos 5-8) Photos 2& 3 clearly show the entire hat mold/form put together. Photo 4 shows the bottom of the crown/top of the hat form. Photo 5 shows the top of the bottom 5 pieces, looking down at it. Photos 6- 9 show the base 5 pieces in various stages of assembly. On the ... morebottom of the form, is"NYHB Co. and many numbers: 4414, 22, 445. It appears that this makes a hat for a 22" head size. Telescope form? I honestly don't know what this means, even though I've tried to research this on-line& have looked at many other listings. If anyone would explain this term to me, I'd be grateful! Antique Art Deco S.H. & Co. 2 PC Millinery Wood Block Hat Fedora Form Mold
Great Antique art deco S.H. Co. two piece millenary wooden block fedora hat forms/molds. I picked this up at a local estate. So not sure of the history behind this piece, but it's very unique. As you can see in the pictures, there are some signs of age and wear. I can't read what it says in the center of the middle mold piece, other than a couple of words. It is marked, S.H. Co. on the side of the rim as you can see in the photos. It has several markings on it, I wasn't able to get pictures of every single item. The markings on the brim mold are as follows, 24, 7 1/8, 2 1/8" the center mold is marked"7 1/8" 5 5/8" There is also a marking that says, Fedora" The brim mold measures 12 1/4" long by 10 1/2" wide and about 2 3/8" high. Here is a great old. Super heavy duty cast iron hat stretcher. It has a derby shape but can be used for any type of hat including fitted baseball hats. This will fit any size hat form circumference 20.5" size 6) to circumference 26.5" which is off the chart at about size 10. The main body of the machine is heavy cast iron and the base is copper. This is great because it has reverse threads- when you rotate the crank clockwise, a standard thread like on a vise, would draw the jaws close. In this case, a clockwise rotation opens the jaws, so it is intuitively works. 20 pounds via UPS. This is a vintage gentlemen's hat mold. I am selling this hat form in good vintage used condition. As shown in the picture there is a drop of what paint on the top of the hat which really doesn't have anything to do with the forming of a hat. It states on the bottom of the form 5 1/4 6 with 3 over 4#8020R. In picture number 8 you can see some damage to the wood. Which again will do nothing in the forming of a hat. I beleive this mold to be a bowler hat form, please correct me if I'm wrong. This is a great vintage piece and would make a great addition to your collection or just to have as a decoration in your home. Antique vintage ladies millinery wood hat block / mold, beautifully made
This is from a collection of hat blocks acquired from the estate of a French milliner who came to the U.S. 1940s. And is a particularly beautiful one in its intricate construction and shape- it's my personal favorite of all I've offered for sale. I can't be certain of the date, but it is most likely from the late 30s/early 40s. Very solid, the form is constructed with a central"X" structure through a core cylinder, the outer shaped pieces varying in thickness from 1" to about 3/8"see photo details, difficult to describe! This is a gorgeous object with a lovely patina and it has obviously been used, so it has pin marks, a few nicks, scuffs, and discoloration toward the top(where the wood is darker) Stamped with a number"847" on side, it measures 22" circumference at base, 13" circumference ... moreat top edge, and is 6-1/4" high. Cleveland OH” and size“ 7 ½” This is a great extra large size crown block to have on the shelf! The circumference at the base of the block is 24” It stands 5 1/2” tall. From front to back. The block measures 8 1/4” Side to side measures 6 3/4” This is a solid hard wood block that is in original used condition. The wood shows some natural wear and push pin holes.
