Up for auction is an awesome set of(4) very large 19th century fixed antique cast iron casters. These are extremely heavy duty and weigh just under 11lbs each! The wheels measure approx. 5 3/4" and stand approx. 8" tall overall. The base measures approx. 5" x 4 3/4" with drilled mounting holes that measure 3 5/8" and 4" center to center. The wheels move freely and are covered in surface rust. I have left them exactly as found not knowing if someone wants the aged patina. They need a good cleaning and grease. The only defect I can find is a small chip in one of the wheels.see the photo) I'm not sure if it's an old chip or defect in the casting. This is a beautiful example of the industrial carts made in the first decade or two of the twentieth century. I have added a salvaged wood top in my professional woodworking shop. Where it was in use for decades. It almost certainly dates to the construction of the industrial complex my shop is in, built in the teens. All the running gear are in good order. And all the cast iron pieces have a wonderful hue to them, not painted, just scrubbed and sealed with a quality poly, which the glass top allows you to really see in every day use! This is a beautiful piece of industrial history. The cart in this auction was taken apart and refurbished by the previous owner. it has a gloss finish. You can actually roll this cart on a white rug without it leaving a rust mark or stain. Roll it from one room to another without worry. It's solid.I use it for a coffee/dinning table. It's surface is smooth enough so no splinters grab you or your cashmere sweater. But the holes nicks. And years of use were purposely left alone. You see them But they are preserved. No end-to-end ... morerocking: These carts were designed and built to be used in factories. They are solid and strong. But they rock end-to-end. This is actually part of their design. It made them easier to roll over the uneven surfaces of a factory floor. It's a good design for a factory, but bad for a table. So. We fix the rocking by adding an improved set screw to each end-wheel and ship a wrench with the cart so you can adjust the table just the way you want it. Not every cart on ebay has a durable fix for this. Look carefully. Authentic Lettering: Our lettering is authentic. LINEBERRY N. WILKESBORO. N.C. appears on both sides of the cart. Superior Restoration Process: the iron was c arefully cleaned. Buffed, and given a clear coat. The fasteners(nuts, bolts, and washers) were each individually hand-cleaned and buffed. The chestnut and oak were cleaned. Milled, and given several coats of a durable satin finish. A furniture-grade paste wax was added to the wooden parts for extra protection. These casters have some age and wear but overall are in good condition. Very solid. Each caster measures 6 1/2" from bolt to bolt and 5 1/2" tall- the wheels have a 4" diameter and are 1 7/8" wide. The mounting plate measures 6 1/4" by 4 1/2" This set was purchased at auction from the closing of the Historic Hershey Chocolate Factory Plant in Hershey, PA.
