Weis Antique Postal Scale
This is a wonderful antique early 1900's postal scale by The Weis Manufacturing Co. Monroe. Mich. U.S.A.The Manufacturer's label is intact on the front of the scale and is in remarkable complete readable condition. Have not seen any better anywhere. This scale is all cast iron and brass. The brass balance bar is insily readable numbers ansd text. The brass weight shows some wear from the thumbs of the postal workers. The scale stands 5 1/2" tall and is 11 1/2" long and weighs about 6lbs. A great piece of American History. Just think what it will be worth many years from now when the USPS no longer exists.

Weights, letter, and air mail rates(starting at 3 cents for letter) rates for newspaper& Magazines, books and catalogs, and"Mdse. Frt'g" Nice scrollwork pattern around face of scale. Up for auction is a beautiful antique 1904 stenciled Reliance Postal scale with 2 glass inkwells with lids and 3 pen racks. There is a measure on the side of the scale that is divided into 5 areas: Letters. Merchandise, ¼ Oz to 8 Ozs, Books and Cir(circulars) and Newspapers. The base has 2 recesses for glass ink wells with lids and rack for 3 pens. There are also 2 drawers to hold stamps or whatever was needed. The scale works perfectly and looks great. There is some surface rust on the caps of the inkwells and a small chip on the glass base of one inkwell, also some surface rust under the pen racks, please check pictures. Up for your consideration is an antique Pelouze standard postal scale#2. It measures the weight of letters. Parcels, books, circulars and newspapers. The base of the scale is made of metal and is very heavy. The bed of the scale has some paint loss and is very dirty as is the entire scale. The scale is in working condition but I cannot verify its accuracy. The base is decorative and the scalloped front almost looks like feet. It measures 12 1/2" long x 6 3/4" tall x 4 1/2" wide. Authentic late 1800s Ideal Postal Scale. Made by the Triner Scale Manufacturing Company of Chicago. Illinois. Scale is divided into 1/2 ounce increments and will weigh up to 2 pounds. The scale measures 4” wide x 6 3/4” deep x 6 3/4” tall. The 2 cent rate for First Class Mail was in effect from July 1, 1885 to November 2, 1917. Scale is accurate and can be adjusted using thumb screw on front. Spring in good working order. Small holes in the base at the front and back are for mounting to a shelf or desk top. Paint finish is in fair condition— no rust, but it may have been repainted by a previous owner. No reserve! Very Fast Handling— in the mail day after payment is received! Black paint in very good condition— the letter tray and bottom edge underneath have a few spots of missing paint. Scale measures 4 5/8” long x 2 7/8” deep and 4 1/2” tall. Antique "Sav-A-Stamp" Postal Mail Scale 1930's

The attached clip held letters or small mail pieces to be weighed by the pendulum balance. The scale bears a postage rate chart that places its manufacturing date between March 26. 1944 and September 30. 1946, when the U.S. airmail rate was eight cents per ounce. This scale was from a machinery company owned and operated by manufacturer Anson Browne of Pasadena. and later. California submitted the original design for the Sav- A-Stamp ... morescale for a patent on April 14. 1933. He received patent#2,060,064 on November 10, 1936. The original design also included a four-inch ruler on the long side of the scale. Which the application noted could also be used as a paper weight. During the period between 1933 and 1936. Thorne-Foster Inc. of New York City manufactured Sav-a-Stamp scales that included the four-inch ruler and were yellow in color. The Thorne-Foster versions of the Sav-A-Stamp included information for three cent letter rates and six cents airmail rates. Making the scale useable between July 1. 1934 and March 25, 1944. Manufacturers in the U.S. and other nations produced letter scales for use at home. Personal letter scales were popular through the mid 20th century. They could be purchased for relatively low prices. The Sav- A-Stamp scale sold for 69-cents in the early 1940s. Businesses purchased items such as this to give to current or prospective customers. It is unknown if this Sav- A-Stamp scale was purchased from“A. Browne Co. or received as a gift. Of course. Individuals were relying on manufacturers to ensure the scales were accurate. ANTIQUE FRENCH( POSTAL SCALE. ALL BRASS, ca 1880 This is an all brass quadrant postal scale from the late 19th century. The only marking is the word GRAMMES on the quadrant dial. There are three ornate legs one of which has a leveling screw. It is 6 1/2" tall and 3" in diameter at the base.

Antique English Postal Scale, 1871 - 1885
This is a very unusual early postal scale. It was made by a company which was founded in the early 18th century and took the name W&T Avery in 1818. They are still in business today. Nearly 300 years later, under the name Avery Weigh-Tronix. What makes this scale so unusual is that one side of the beam is graduated in ounces while the other side can be read directly in pence. The rates that are built into the scale were in use during the period 1871 to 1885.

ANTIQUE POSTAL SCALE. BRASS AND GUTTA PERCHE, LATE 19th CENTURY There are no markings on this brass and gutta perche quadrant postal scale. It is probably of continental origin because the divisions are in grams. Gutta-percha is a dark rubbery. Substance derived from tropical trees and it is very similar to rubber. It was mainly used in the mid to late 19th century but only rarely in scales. It was used more often in daguerreotype frames and mourning jewelry. The base does not appear to have any chips or scratches. Alas. There is a small break on the left side of the pointer that is not immediately obvious. The scale stands 7 1/4" tall and 4" across the wide part of the base.
