His business soon proved popular, especially with the working poor of Nottingham's new industries, who could not afford the services of a doctor. After John's death in 1860, his son, Jesse took sole control and his talent for business was soon evident. He expanded the range of products to include proprietary medicines and household necessities. He adopted a strategy of buying stock in bulk and selling his goods much cheaper than his competitors. This heavy metal barber shop chair part has been used. It is just about 7 pounds unwrapped. Metal has wear as you see in the photos. Including rub and scuff, scratches, a few dips in the metal in places like upper left corner and bottom under Chicago probably from the pressure of someone's feet. Patina surface has discoloration and soiling even though I tried to wash it. I don't know hold old this part is, since Koch dates to the 1800's and I see mention into early 1900's. I'd say circa 1900 and if someone has more information to share I welcome your input, since I am not an expert in antique barber shop chairs. Antique Barber Shop-Hair Washing Stand Bowl Basin-Medical Autopsy Device
Antique copper or brass barber shop hair washing-shampoo basin bowl OR a medical device used in surgery or autopsy. The base with three feet is cast iron. The adjustable vertical rod is cast iron. The bowl or basin looks like brass. But may well be copper. The piece measures 36" to the top of the bowl extensions(these would surround the neck) The bowl is 14" in diameter. The shaft attached to the bowl is 14" long. There is a drain hole in the basin/bowl. The drain valve with turn knob is solid brass. The turn knob does not turn(we did not force) In the 6th photo you can see where a set-screw would be placed to lock the extension rod in-place. Set-screw is missing. The cast iron base has surface rust on the bottom. Embossed on the inside of the legs are the initials PR and the numeral 2. The feet extend 9.5" out from the ... moreshaft. There are no other markings on this piece. The piece would look beautiful polished-or not. There are a few minor dents to the bowl. Antique Koken Barber Chair Pump Handle. White porcelain. Hard to find Lollipop Style. There are so few of these style handles out there. Great restoration piece. Included, as seen in the pictures of the inside of the larger round mounting end, are the spring and pin that are absolutely necessary for operation of the handle when mounted on a barber chair. These 2 pieces are typically lost but this handle comes with them. Please use photos to show the condition. There are 3 chips to the porcelain on the outside of the larger round end, a few on the inside of the same end(not visible when mounted) 1 chip on the shaft plus stress lines as seen in photos, and the smaller"ball shaped" end has an area of chips that someone has glued a few of the pieces back on plus 2 small chips shown with an off white touch up paint. Koken President Barber Chairs from 1962! These are the coolest chairs I have ever seen! Check out the sides.wow Mid Century if you have ever seen it. I have done a light refurb on these chairs. Whats that mean. They have been professionally reupholstered. CLEANED inside and out.lots of hair hiding) And located the Hard to find headrests WITH the paper rollers. They are in working condition. Here is whats not 100 percent. A. both chairs have a very small tear on one side of the outside cool boomarangish material. It is probably four inches where it has been taped. It is shown in the pictures and frankly it is not very noticeable at all. I have mad no attempt at removing this as it is stable and hard to notice. B. There are a couple of hairline cracks in the castings near where the footrest supports and the deck of the footrest meets. Its seems ... morestable to me. But if you want it perfect you will have to weld this. Again I would leave it and its up to you. I don't want that to distract you from how nice and cool these chairs are. Seriously the coolest ones I have EVER seen. YOU HAVE TO KNOW IT WHEN YOU SEE IT! Shipping is pickup in OMAHA NE. You have a month after purchase to come get them. ALSO I CAN DO THIS. The hydraulic and reclining mechanisms are working. The chrome on the arm rests. Foot rests and around the rim of the base show wear. Upholstery needs replacing, you can see what looks like horse hair below the batting. For reupholstery you can just remove the seat and back and have them redone without moving the entire chair. Universal headrest is still intact and working. Very decent chrome on it for it’s age. It has expected, random, light finish wear, but a worthwhile project. It weighs a few hundred pounds, but the base can be removed from chair itself. The back plate where you slide the headrest in to has a small corner crack. NO RESERVE! Barber chair from the 1870's. Unfortunately I cannot find a makers mark or tag. There are matching numbers on the wood frame and headrest. The numbers are 20002. Amazing condition for its age. Nothing is broken the reclining mechanism still works. The only flaw is 2 of the small wood" buttons" are missing. One on each side of the lower part of the chair. Light wear on the bottom of the legs. Probably can be reproduced or leave as is. I did not even notice them until my wife pointed it out. Also the left hand rest has a small hole on top. The lady I purchased this from many years ago told me her grandmother was a barber from Michigan and the chair was used to cut hair at lumber camps back in the day. She said her grandmother used a horse and buggy to travel with the chair. The chair was her prized possession and that ... moreis why the condition is so amazing. Nice robins egg blue with gold speckle Salon mirrored back bar/counter.Constructed of osb Board and laminate vormica. Came from a 1950s barber shop in St. Johnsville NY. Has cool old 1950s chrome hardware. There are 2 work stations with set of drawers and cupboards on each side and one in the middle. The second door down in the storage areas has very nice ribbed glass. The door on the left side is missing glass. The bottom drawer in the storage areas is a tip out drawer and is tin lined. The second door down on the right side has broken hinge. There are scuff marks on the counter top in the center. The 2 piece mirror has a sliver out of the center on the bottom. The right bottom corner the mirror is also chipped. At the top there are 2 plastic covers a light fixture could be added here to make this back counter lighted.
