The carvings and details on this piece are absolutely fabulous! We can confidently attribute this outstanding Etagere to George W. Ware and Company. Boston, Massachusettes. The top of this wonderful Etagere is graced with a magnificent pierced carved crown adorned with massive fruits and nuts. Carved scrolls, a grape cluster, along with leaf and foliate carvings and pierced scrolled work. This glorious crown sits upon the substantial arc-shaped bonnet top which provides the perfect introduction to the large oval mirror. This large oval mirror is encased in beautiful picture-frame moulding and appears to be original. Plenty of display opportunity is found on the eight graduated scalloped display surfaces as well as on the larger center white marble top display area above the serpentine bottom drawer. The white marble top has beveled. Scalloped edging and is in excellent condition for its age. Each of the eight graduated display surfaces are accented with pierced scrolled work and are supported with elegant turned posts with handsome turned finials on top. The drawer has divided compartments and the tasseled key works the lock. Below the drawer is a ring turned towel bar and lower down is a small storage shelf. Up for auction is a Victorian drop center dresser. It is special in that it is made of American Chestnut. A species that was wiped out by chestnut blight- very few mature specimens exist today. The dresser is in good condition, with the exception of a small repair(pictured) and some dings from someone's overzealous hammer use. The original beveled mirror is in good shape with some streaking as expected for a 130+year old mirror. The dresser would be a great accent piece, or could be converted to a sink basin. VICTORIAN Burl Walnut Wishbone Mirror DRESSER& Gentleman's CHEST This elegant Victorian drop front Wishbone Mirror dresser chest and matching Ladies' or Gentleman's chest is constructed of walnut with burl accents. The style is consistent with the period of"Renaissance Revival. Ca. 1860. They both have the original finish, wooden casters and working antique keys. These pieces feature Renaissance Revival/ Rococo elements including serpentine ribbed"carpenter's lace" on the edges and around the dresser's tilt mirror. They have applied hand carved drawer pulls. Escutcheons and other decorative elements in a leaf and flower design. The corners and edges are rounded. And the casings around the drawers and most edges are curved and double or triple ribbed. The dresser has a wishbone tilt mirror on pedestal ... morebase. Handkerchief drawers and three large drawers. There are turned finials on the mirror posts and spindles on the sides of the handkerchief drawers. The three large drawers lock. The chest has an upper cabinet with shelf. Probably for hats or bonnets, one small drawer possibly for gloves and another larger drawer at the bottom. The top part of the cabinet features cathedral shaped burled panel doors that close with a hook on the inside and a lock. The drawers do not lock. A very nice antique. Circa 1870's, Renaissance Revival over mantel mirror. It is in carved walnut with elaborate crest having a carved lady figurehead and drape with tassels. There are decorative raised panels with rosewood veneers, and incised line designs gilted in. There are two later holes drilled in the upper frame where it would be bolted to the wall. The crest is missing the finial carving on top of the flat top. As presented it measures 6'11" 83" tall By 5'2" 62" wide by 9" deep at lady head. The mirror measures 55-1/2" tall 46-1/2" wide. Very good condition: original unworn finish to walnut and rosewood. Gilt incised lines mostly filled. Minor crack to frame upper right. All rosewood without chipping. Italian Walnut Marquetry Dresser with mirrors
A beautiful Italian manufacture dresser with beveled mirrors and crafted marquetry dated around 1890. Strung with boxwood. The serpentine cornice and conforming deep frieze above three mirrored panels, the base with a marble top over two long drawers on baluster front legs. This is loosely based on late 18th century models with its delicate inlays and elegant feet. Marquetry is a decorative surface treatment in which thin pieces of wood. Mother of pearl or metal are laid together in a pattern which is affixed to another sturdier support, usually on furniture or wood boxes. The word comes from the French word"marqueterie" The technique has been used for centuries. Examples go as far back as ancient Egypt, where Egyptian tomb paintings show marquetry furniture being made and some of that furniture still exists. The technique consists ... moreof arranging numerous small pieces to form a design or picture. The pieces are assembled somewhat in the manner of a jigsaw puzzle and then glued to a sturdy supporting piece. The technique of marquetry is most often used on case goods and accessories. Antique Eastlake Dresser This is an Eastlake style antique dresser. We believe it is composed of walnut with a medium-tone finish. It has been finished with a lovely marble surface and a large mirror top. The mirror has a beautiful and ornate carved design. Three large drawers sit below the marble surface. The drawers have dovetailed construction. All of the drawers are 33" wide and 14" deep. The top drawers is 6 1/8" tall. The middle is 7" tall and the bottom is 8 1/2" tall. The entire set-up measures 86" in height. It is 41 3/4" at the widest point. And 17 3/4" deep. It weighs approximately 177 pounds. The exposed marble surface measures 40 7/8" by 13 3/4" This is in great. Antique condition overall with some general signs of age and use. There are no visible cracks or repairs. There are ... morea few chips along the dresser edge. It appears as though there was originally a crown as well as a pair of candle holder arms. These pieces are no longer included. The mirror may be a replacement, since it is not beveled, but it is still a lovely match. There is a slight separation in the joint at the top of the mirror arch. I see a few very faint paint splatters on the dresser. There are minor imperfections, such as scratches or spots of wear, which I believe should be expected on a piece of this age.
