These were likely intended as pepper shakers, as open salts were still in use when they were made, but they could easily be used as a salt and pepper pair today. This is a rare shaker form, and these are easily the best quality pair we've ever had. The shakers are in great condition. The caps on the underside. Where you put the salt or pepper in, fit very securely. We think the caps may be replacements, but if so they were well done. The details of the designs are nice and crisp. These lantern are heavy weight 950 Sterling Silver. The craftsman ship is excellent. They have been stored for years in the original wood box and I do not believe they were ever used. Each stands 3 3/4" in height on a three footed base. They are marked Sterling 950. The top unscrews as pictured for filling. There is still a label attached to the box that reads OKUBO BROTHERS Tokyo. Japan. I believe these were probably brought back from Japan i after World War II. The pair weighs between 59 and 60 grams. They are both in excellent condition. I did not polish and will leave that to the new owner. They will polish up beautifully. Safely packed delivery will be FREE. These salt and pepper shakers are charmingly decorated. Each tapering cylindrical body has a rich hand hammered surface in the Japanese taste. One is decorated with an applied mixed metal crane and lily-of-the-valley floral bush, and the other is decorated with an applied mixed metal bird and a goat playfully eating the leaves from a bush. Both also have a ground of applied silver granulation. These scenes are artistically rendered and create a dynamic scene against the sparkling silver surface. Both have plain, detachable cap lids that have been beautifully pierced in a starburst and anchor motif. Each shaker is stamped under the base with the identifying marks of the Gorham Manufacturing Co. the words Sterling& Other Metals, and pattern numbers A92 M and 11 EX, each lid is also stamped with a number. It is in between the two perhaps because it is somewhat transparent. Especially in the upper half. It measures approx 3" tall including lid. The rim is a little rough, but that is common on these hand blown shakers. The ribs were not polished because they are covered by a lid. The hand painted enamel show only minor paint loss. It does appear though that there may have been a wash of color on the shoulder near neck and on the base. These are only traces of paint there now. And you may wish to wash it off. Antique Opaque Custard or Yellow Mold Blown Glass Spider Web Pattern Dithridge& Company Pittsburgh. PA For your Antique Glass Shaker Collection Details Description: A beautiful light yellow or custard colored opaque glass mold blown shaker in the Spider Web pattern. There is six bulging lobes around the circumference. The shaker. Which is colored in opaque light yellow or custard, has a raised motif of intricate scroll on the entire body. This web like motif completely covers the entire shaker. The design or pattern is raised and is really very nicely done. The shaker has a screw on metal top, which is most likely not original to the piece, and a footed based with a recessed center. This is a rather rare and unusual shaker. See page 67 in Mildred& Ralph Lechner's book The World of Salt Shakers, published by Collector Books of ... morePaducah, KY 1992 for a similar example. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1894-1897. Origin: Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Size: ~2 3/4" in diameter at its widest and it is ~2 3/8" tall including the metal top. The piece weighs 3 ounces. Maker: Dithridge& Company. Marks: No markings. Distinguishing Characteristics- Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice and very rare shaker. Condition: The shaker is in very good condition with no cracks. Repairs or hairlines that we could find. The metal cap is also in good shape with a few minor bumps and is stained throughout. We believe the metal cap may be a replacement and not original to the piece. The shaker also shows general roughness around the top edge, which is original to the making( this normally happens when the shaker is broken off the blowing wand after the shaker is hardened) which can be seen in the photos. Finally, the shaker has some soiling that is imbedded near the raised portions of the web, which we show in the photos. We have not attempted to clean the shaker and we leave that to the new owner. These three gorgeous salt shakers date early 1990s and are being sold as a lot as I am helping a friend disperse her collection. The lot includes: Co-op pattern dated 1908 with which we believe is the original top-excellent condition. Photos 2.3,4) Wheel and Comma pattern with no top. The'comma' has broken off one of the handles(photos 5. 6, 7, 8) The rim is very rough with a small chip. This was used and needs a good cleaning. Wheel of Fortune pattern with original top. So I took a jewelry cloth and rubbed a little and WOW, I hit the On switch on is this awesome set. They age very nicely and appear to have a very good triple plate plating so I can see this set looking good either with the antique look, or fresh out of the store about 60 or 70 years ago. The patina wears well on this set and the carrier. I did not find any makers' marks on any of the pieces, however who ever the maker may be, they certainly did a bang up job on this gorgeous set. Awesome Antique Cut Glass Salt& Pepper Shakers with Sterling Silver Top. Beautiful Ornate Designs that I hope can be captured in the photos. The top design has two rows of cut ridges. Then a diamond shape design with two more rows of ridges and so on. The bottom is X& Diamond designs. Each measures 3-1/2" tall with top x 1-3/4" diameter base. Weighing 9 oz. without packaging. Good Antique Condition with signs of age. Use& wear. I do not see any flaw in the glass. But the tops have tarnish, dents and need to be cleaned. Whenever one of them hit upon a successful line of shapes/colors the others would quickly look to make something similar. The shakers were possibly manufactured by the Libbey Glass Company during the late 1800s. And they have an embossed fruit pattern on the outside. The shakers include their original tin lids with plastic centers, and they stand approximately 2 7/8" tall. Item Condition: The overall condition of the shakers is excellent. The condiment set in in the Florette pattern and it was made by the Consolidated Lamp& Glass Co. between 1894-1900. The condiment set consists of a handled tray. Salt& pepper shaker, and mustard jar. The glass is cased with a white inner layer, a pink middle layer, and a clear outside layer giving it this effect. Each piece retains its original metal lid, and overall the tray stands approximately 7 1/2" tall from the base to the top of the handle. The shakers and mustard jar stand about 2" tall. Item Condition: The overall condition of the set is very good to excellent. It is very clean and has no chips. They are beautiful, one is a light blue& the other one is an orange/ caramel color, there are few tiny chips on the bottom of caramel colored one, the blue has a chunk out of the bottom, I attempted to show it in the pictures, it does not take away from the use or displaying of this item, the lid on the blue one is in fairly good condition, the one on the caramel one is in rough condition, they measure approx 3" tall x 1 1/8" across, please refer closely to the pictures for condition details. This blue glass shaker was made circa 1870 by the Bryce Bros. Glass Company and by the US Glass Company in 1891. It is called"Wheat and Barley and is 3" tall. The glass is in good condition.there is a chip on the top edge and no other chips or cracks.
