AAFA 19th Century Full Bodied Copper and Iron "Ethan Allen" Horse Weathervane
Full Bodied Running Horse Weathervane This is a copper molded full bodied"Ethan Allen" weathervane with a cast iron head. The surface is wonderful- a vibrant chrome yellow paint which was the sizing. Or undercoat, for what once would have been a gilded surface- worn off by weather and exposure. Areas of verdigris show through, making the overall effect interesting and beautiful. Ethan Allen was a champion Morgan horse trotter. Renowned in the Racing Hall of Fame, and a horse that you see in many Currier and Ives prints. This and many other vanes of the late 1800's were derived from the Currier and Ives images. The relatively small size of this one makes it special- 30" from the tip of the tail to the foremost leg. 17 1/2" from the ear to the cross piece, a perfect size for display. It appears that this vane. Like many ... moreof its era, was shot at. Pictures 8,9,11 show what look to be filled bullet holes- I believe these repairs were done a long time ago, judging from the verdigris on and around them. There are some intermmitant seam separations on the back(picture 3) belly(picture 6) and chest(picture 5) and minor denting. The iron head appears to have been smoothed due to inevitable rust with some kind of filler- hard to tell- with some in-painting. Most of the vibrant chrome yellow paint appears to be original- the bits of brighter yellow here and there are not as stable as the rest and may have been added later. That said, the surface is striking, with the wonderful color interspersed with the verdigris of the copper showing through. There is no stand. Great sculptural shape. Exceptional detail to the mane(picture 10) and tail(picture 12) No breaks(except for the seam separations as noted above) or missing parts. Found in New Hampshire, it dates from the late 1800's. WEATHER VANE: Monumental J.W. Fiske Banneret. Gilded Copper. Late 1800's, 49"Tall This is a wonderful and monumentally large J.W. Fiske Banneret Weather Vane. Most likely made sometime in the 1880's or 1890's. On its wooden stand it is 49 inches tall and 48 3/4 inches long. It is very impressive and has a beautifull and complicated patina. The catalog for J.W. Fiske: Copper Weathervanes. Bannerets, Lightning Rods, Stable Fixtures, 1893" shows several Bannerets very similar to this one. Two similar Bannerets were recently auctioned at the Houses in New York; below are photos of two of them: J.W. Fiske& Co. was founded in 1863 by Joseph Winn Fiske. Considered to be one of the preeminent New York City makers of ornamental iron and zinc objects in the second half of the nineteenth century. J.W. Fiske& Co. is most ... morewell-known for its fine production of copper weather vanes, which were produced in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Fiske's designs ranged from the naturalistic foliate designs that were the stock-in-trade of mid-Victorian style to sculptures after the Antique or neoclassical works of Antonio Canova or Bertel Thorvaldsen. Suitable for park-like landscapes of estates and landscape cemeteries of formal schemes. As it is now on its wooden base. This Banneret stands 49 inches tall and is 48 3/4 inches long. The horizontal arrow section of the Banneret itself is 12 inches tall and 48 3/4 inches long. The tall spike rises 22 inches above the horizontal section. The ball is 6 1/2 inches in diameter. This is a very large Weather Vane. The bottom black part of the supporting rod is a piece of hollow steel which I used to mount the Banneret. The original part of the supporting rod is solid. Not hollow. The end of the arrow is closed, but dented a bit. I believe this Banneret has been gilded several times. Much of the gold is worn away revealing a coat of mustard colored undercoat. This whirligig was made by Howard Bennett. A local man who just turned 87. He used pieces that I bought made by Tubby Brown. Howard made the ark and whirligig. Here's my theory as to how this weather vane works: The threaded shaft would take the propeller which rotates two gears making the unicyclist move around ... morethe circular disc. Opposite end would have the flat arrow fletch vane[part of the weather vane] attached by the two holes you see in picture. The vane makes it directional via the wind. Offset the vane end. There is a mounting hole for the rotational mounting shaft. One of the features would be the cyclist's speed would be relational to the wind speed. From a local estate. Here is a beautiful old cast iron weather vane arrow, would have fit on the old rooftop lightning rod on a house or barn. Overall length is 18.5" about 4" top to bottom. I'm guessing this was refinished at some point. The black paint looks too shiny and was probably applied over a rusty original, and the glass panel doesn't look right, probably a replacement. Antique Bronze Weathervane Direction Arrows Nice Patina Finish
Large Antique Weather Vane Directions From an old estate. These are bronze direction pieces that would go on the pole beneath the figure. There are two pieces that make the direction letters. Each piece extends from the center piece and has the direction letter at the ends- N S E& W. The arms extend 9" from the center. And they are each 3.25" tall. The direction letters are made of a heavy bronze(magnet does not stick) and have a weathered aged finish. The North-South piece is slightly thicker metal but the pieces fit well together and are the same size. There are screws on both center pieces to tighten the arms to the weathervane pole. This is a medium sized pig on a heavy brass front. The total length is about 22 inches. The pig measures 11 inches from the tip of its nose to the tip of the tail and it is about 6 inches tall. Any medium size animal lightning rod weathervane is rare for the simple reason that you either purchased the cheapest(small) or the best(large) so no one ever used the medium size. This pig is all original but the two anchor legs have been re-inforced and the pig has been repainted. Hollow zinc body. No reserve so have fun. As you never see this item offered for sale. Weather Vane: Antique Sailing Ship. Gilded& Painted Iron. 27.5" x 19.5"1800's This is a great old Weather Vane I picked up in Gloucester. Massachusetts, many years ago when I was living in Cambridge. Gloucester, of course, was long famous as having a huge fishing fleet. I don't think this Weather Vane is a fishing ship, but I may be mistaken. In any case, it is a very old type of sea going vessel. It is made of very thick iron. And seems to me to have been painted and gilded several times. There are traces of white paint, mustard colored paint and gilding. And quite a few patches of rust of the exposed iron. It has its original solid supporting rod. Which I think is brass and its mounting foot, which may be later than the Ship itself, which I believe dates to sometime in the 1800's. I mounted it to an old piece of ... moretimber. And, as it stands now, this Ship is 27 1/2 inches tall and 19 1/2 inches long. The Ship itself, with its waves at the bottom, is 20 1/4 inches tall and 19 1/2 inches long. Besides its worn surface. Which is one of its chief beauties, there is no damage to this Weather Vane. It sits still and easily turns on its supporting rod. The photos give a very good idea of this charming and beautiful example of American metal work from the 1800's. If you should have any questions. Please don't hesitate to contact me. Antique Copper Weather Vane Jockey Figure
Wonderful antique weather vane figure from Tulsa. Ok. estate. This piece has a lovely patina from years outdoors and is from the estate of a local Questor club member. This estate has many fine smaller antiques and other listings will follow. The figure is of a jockey on a sulky training a race horse with the original copper rains. The family was known to be originally from the Dublin, Ohio area. The piece measures 30 inches long by 16 inches high and is roughly 18 inches wide. If you enlarge and look closely you can see a seam down the center of the horse body and hand hammered marks.

But is now mounted on a small wooden stand to be displayed indoors as a piece of art. The original directionals are also included so it can be used either way. AGE: This is an old item which I am guessing was made anywhere from the 1920's to the 1950's? DIMENSIONS: The weathervane is 23.25” long. MATERIALS: This item is cast solid metal which appears to be aluminum ... moreand is painted black. ORIGINALITY: This item is completely original. CONDITION: As you can see in the photos. The weathervane has wear, scratches, and paint loss. Part of the base of the original mounting bracket has broken off and is probably still attached to a barn somewhere. I have it temporarily screwed to a board for demonstration purposes only, so the large unpainted board is not included. Antique Off White Pink Glass Lightning Rod Ball
This is a beautiful antique glass lightning rod ball. It is a very pale. Light pinkish color- almost an off white pink. It has a couple little bubbles and imperfections in the glass but no cracks. ANCIENT Lightning Rod Conductor splicerless splice "Western Union" T connection
Old school"T" connection of 7 strand conductors. Measures about 8" x 4" An old Yankee installer once referred to it as a"Western-Union" splice. Nice workmanship. It was so impressive. I cut it out of a system and saved it all these years. VERY OLD. AUCTION WILL RUN THE FULL COURSE.

Old lightning rod tip LAST OF THIS VINTAGE with direct strike damage
The terminal is about 5 1/4" x 1 3/4" but was like 7"x 3" before the metal loss from being HIT by LIGHTNING. Seems to be cast bronze or copper. Very good patina with small wrench mark from disassembly. VERY OLD. AUCTION WILL RUN THE FULL COURSE.

This has been kicking around for decades. At one point a partnership was discussed with van der Heide for these counters and early streamer emission terminals. No deal was ever made and this may be the last remnant of the attempt. Very cool piece of lightning protection oddities. It should work fine.

RARE!! Gold Mercury "Electra" Lightning Rod Ball Nice Glass
UP FOR SALE! Rare Gold Mercury"Electra" Lightning Rod Ball The dimensions are approx 5" Tall and 4.5" wide This is very cool piece. I didnt clean this one because the gold flake inside falls off. Quite a bit is gone, but this one appears to have been struck by lightning at one time due to the soot on the inside top, not positive though. Please ask any questions you have Thanks
