Great Wood Miniature Antique Eagle Weathervane Early Paint Primitive Folk Art
Amazing little antique eagle weathervane in original paint. A great piece. Carved wood with metal wings and tail. Comes with the custom stand shown. Orig Miller Quality Lightning Rod Weathervane Bayonet Tip, Glass Ball & Arrow BO
All Original signed Miller Quality on the brass bayonet tip. I have listed this item as Buy it Now or Best Offer. A magnet does not stick to the bayonet tip or the ring that goes around the glass ball. I am not sure if it is silver. Brass or copper. The bayonet tip measures from top to bottom 10" and the tip of the three sided bayonet has a very sharp tip on the end and has a green color to it. The steel arrow measures 15" from the tip of the arrow to the end, the end of the arrow is missing. The steel arrow is approximately 1/4" thick steel. The glass ball measures approximately 6" tall and is approximately 4 1/4" across. The ball has a non metal ring that goes with it. The lighting rod was taken off of an old 1800's barn years ago that was being demolished and was stored away in my collection. I am selling all ... morethe pieces together and not breaking them up. You get what you see in the pictures, the bayonet piece, the ball ring, the smoky glass ball, and the steel arrow. I have taken twelve pictures so you can see all the features of this unique lighting rod. There are no cracks in the glass ball. Where the ball would sit on the lighting rod rings it does have rough edges, but the glass on the ball itself is not cracked or chipped, it does need cleaned, I will leave that up to the professional. 8 Lightning rods point old vintage copper light verdigris green rustic
These are very old. They came off a house that we just bought that was originally built in 1870. The house was added on probably in 1930 or so. Not sure of the age.they can be around 70 years old. Calling them vintage. Because I am not an expert on copper lighting rods. In the last picture.you can see that the last one is bent.you probably can reshape it.I didn't want to damage it.and also the second to the last one in the last picture has a small dent on the bottom. In the picture there is 6 hardware and screws. The other 2 hardware brackets are attached to the rod. They are 16 and 15 inches high. Copper Weathervane From "Bel Air" Historic Home George Washington's Biographer
The home known as"Bel Air" in Woodbridge. Virginia, just south of Washington D.C. was constructed in 1740 by Major Charles Ewell. It was later purchased by Parson Weems, the first biographer of George Washington, who published his biography"The Life Of Washington" in 1800, which included the famous"George Washington Can Not Tell A Lie, Cherry Tree Story. George and Martha Washington stayed in this home on several occasions when it was owned by Major Ewell, before Weems purchased it! Thomas Jefferson also was a guest at this home several times. This home is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission. That's the background of this home, true American history! This brings us to the Weathervane that sat atop this house. This Weathervane was constructed at some point ... morein the 1800's and was constructed by joining together many pieces of hand-hammered Copper. Not the two-piece technique used later in that century. There are a couple of old Buckshot holes in the Eagle, including the beak, with the buckshot still rolling around inside the Eagle! This Weathervane has tremendous patina and still stands proudly. The original angled, roof mount with original hardware is included. It stands 59" tall and is 25" from wingtip to wingtip. You can also see the very nice shamrock patterns in the directionals. This is truly a one of a kind offering of a historic artifact of our country. This house was auctioned off in 2013 along with several contents. The documentation of this house and these statements is easily confirmed. Antique Large Copper Running Horse Weathervane / Folk Art - Late 1800's
This rare weathervane circa late 1800's came from an estate in northern California. This is an original Victorian era piece! The hollow copper horse measures an impressive 30” from nose to tail and 14” from head to hoof. The horse body rotates on an axis above the 18” wind indicator letters. Two hollow copper balls; 5” and 3 ½” sit atop the indicator. Overall the weathervane is in great vintage condition. With beautiful oxidation and patina. Looking around ebay I'd say it's likely not an antique but it is very well built and hand-crafted from formed copper soldered together with brass tubing for the structural support elements. It has been stored indoors so it's starting to get a nice patina but has not yet developed full verdigris. All soldered joints are solid. You'll notice that one of the wheels is bent in slightly and the front leg of the horse is slightly tweaked. Both could be easily bent back to shape if you so desire. This is a large weathervane measuring approximately 33" in length. 16.5" in height, and 10.5" in width. This will be very securely packed ... morefor safe transit and will include full insurance. This is not an old ball as the Hawkeye Company did not make a dark amber pendant. Old Hawkeye pendants are a lighter amber and the glass is thinner than in this item. Old Victorian Era Iron & Brass Lightning Rod Weathervane Farm Hardware
Here we have an old lightning rod. This was recently removed off a Southern Ky. barn. Stand is a noninsulated style. It is 21" tall and has all it's feet and the brass rod clips aren't broken. Rod is a 32" iron spiral style rod. The female fitting is stamped Improved Miller Quality. Rod has the 2- piece brass cable connector and a wide blade 9" bayonet. Rod and stand has some silver roof paint and the tip has nice bright green patina. Very nice old rod.

Penmans Weathervane
This is a nice old quill weathervane that is in mostly untouched condition. These feathers were made for schools and writers. I was told that Samuel Clemens had one on top of his house but I can't guarantee this to be true. It is approximately 26" in over all height and 35 1/4" in over all width. Spire on top of ball is 8 3/4" from top of ball to top of point. Ball is 4" in diameter. From top of quill to bottom of ball is 8" and from bottom of quill to bottom of pipe is 4 1/2" Retains much of it's either original or second coat of gold leaf and has nice verdigris showing through in places. There are seam separations on the bottom of quill and nib but these were soldered( see pictures) so they wouldn't get worse before I bought it. I purchased it at a CT auction in the early mid 1990s, I had a wall ... moremount bracket made(wall mount is included) and has been hanging on my living room wall ever since. Please view the pictures carefully as I only take returns if I my description is not accurate. I will insure the vane for the full sale price. Weathervane is made of mostly copper but the vertical pipe may be brass. I painstakingly pack all vanes I ship very carefully, but was once almost been taken by a guy who is an insurance fraud con man. He claimed the vane that I sold him was broken when he it unpacked it. There was no way the break happened in shipment as he claimed or the box would have had to be bent in half. He told me he had to file an insurance claim. When I told him that I did not insure it( it was only a $ 250 weathervane) he wanted his money back. I met him in a parking lot, exchanged money for vane(broken vane) and we parted amicably. I later found out that he has done this same ruse many other times and usually makes the insurance claim, pockets the money, ships the item(damaged) back to the seller and puts a freeze on their paypal account until he gets his money back. He also buys antiques and replaces the good parts with bad parts and then returns them with the b

I have seen a lot of windmills with the famous"W" as I am a collector myself. But I will say that I have never seen a piece of the actual packing crate it came in. I have spent a lot of time, written a lot of letters trying to find this in a picture or a story, but I have had no luck. The closest I came was a letterhead from the Althouse-Wheeler Company in Waupun, WI that has the same names on it, but not in this order. Up for auction is a cherry red over clear glass cased lightning rod ball. This ball is 4 1/2" and has typical collar chipping. This ball is unusual because it was made with 2 layers of glass.a red layer was cased over the clear layer. I have tried to show this in picture#4 in the lower left area of the collar you can make out the"casing" effect. This casing has created a very different bright red color when compared to the typical ruby red ball in picture#5. Note the ruby red ball is NOT for sale. There are no chips. Antique Blue Milk Glass Ribbed Grape Lightning Rod Ball Weathervane
Up for auction is an antique blue milk glass lightning rod ball in the ribbed grape pattern. This ball was used by several lightning rod companies. This ball measures 5 1/8" by 4 3/8" This ball has typical collar chipping. There is one small(3/16" bubble burst on one of the center row"grapes" I have shown this in photo#4. It does not detract from the attractiveness of this ball. There are no chips. Cracks, or holes.
