Vintage Horse Sulky Copper Weathervane with Brass Directionals
This weather vane came from a farm in Illinois. I'm not sure how old it is. It has brass directionals included. There is a slight separation at the horse's tail and a break at one of the wheels(see pictures) The horse has a lot of details that most weather vanes like this don't have. The ears are original and are usually broken off from wear(see picture) The weather vane measures 31 x 16 inches. The directionals measure 18 x 18 inches. Spudnik style with 5 points. I believe it is either bronze or brass and has a great patina and original finish. Has a patent date but it is hard to read, I think it is 1912. Has a few bent points but if you made it to that age you would have some bent parts also. They stand about 9" tall and about 9 1/2" wide. These are becoming harder to get because they are bronze or brass and lots are being melted for scrap. Most of my items are preowned, vintage or antique so they will show age appropriate wear. Fresh from a local estate we offer this great vintage Sunfish sailboat weathervane. It measures 34" tall from base to top of sail. The directionals are about 13" in diameter. It has a great weathered patina and is a bit dusty as it was found in the storage shed of a water front estate on Cape Cod. Hull of the boat appears to be fiberglass. Each rod has it's two piece cast aluminum T- clamp for connecting to the ground cable. Balls are 4-1/2" plain round glass balls. These each have a white milk color to them. 3 Antique Matching Victorian Iron Lightning Rods Balls Weathervane Farm Hardware
Here we have a group of 3 matching lightning rods. Glass balls and a kitetail weathervane. I personally removed these from a house here in Southern Ky. recently. Here's what you get. 3- 21" iron noninsulated stands with 31" iron twisted star rods. All the brass clips to clamp the rods are intact as are the feet. Rods come with the two piece brass cable connectors and a broad bladed 9" bayonet. Stands and rods have some old silver paint and the tips have super green patina! Each rod is marked Improved Miller Quality on the bottom fitting. You get 3- white milk glass 4-1/2" round glass balls. Collars are good and there are no cracks or bb damage. Two of the balls have old caps. Altho not the best caps but they're old. The other ball I put one copper new cap on it. None of the caps are affixed so you could put new ... morecaps on all three if you want. Finally, you get a 21" cast aluminum kitetail style weathervane and two piece cast aluminum ferrule. The kite has a sun and cresent moon design in the tail. No damage to this vane at all! These are all old antique and in great shape. Pristine MEDIUM PIG Old Lightning Rod Weathervane
Very attractive medium pig in essentially perfect condition with a great natural patina. The total length of the vane is about 25 inches and the pig is 11 inches from the tip of its nose to the tip of its tail and 6 inches tall. Medium size pigs. Sheep, cows chicken etc vanes are rare as the natural tendency was to buy cheap(small vanes) or showy(large vanes) hence few medium size vanes exist. The next two are hollow copper and still sodderd to the old rod. 4rth from the top is hollow copper with a threaded brass end. The bottom two are solid, heavy copper. I have for auction a beautiful Green glass lightning rod ball/ globe. It measures approx 5.5" the openings are approx. 1 1/4" on the outside and 1" on the inside of the hole. I see the bubbles in the glass as well as the dimples too that just shows how old this is. It could use a cleaning but will leave that up to the winning bidder. I do not see any cracks or chips except around the openings(see pics) nothing to bad. If you have the caps they will cover the chips on the ends. ANTIQUE LIGHTNING ROD WITH KRETZER ARROW. FINIAL AND BALL! Up for auction is this great find of an old lightning rod with arrow and ball. The Lightning Rod has the twisted iron rods which show its age due to the rust on the rods but in good shape. The rods have two connectors that have the white porcelain insulators marked“ RH CO No. 74” Reyburn-Hunter and Company) The copper end on the middle rod is also marked“ RH CO” and has a green patina. The center rod measures approximately 62” high. The arrow is marked“Kretzer St. Louis” and shows its age with its green patina. The arrow is non-magnetic and measures 22” long. The ball is a nice cobalt blue color in good condition with just the usual nicks/cuts on the rims. There are no ball caps. Ball measures 5 ½“ high and has a circumference of approximately 14” Included is also the 5-Point ... morebrass Ajax top(finial) The non-magnetic top has a green patina and in good condition. Marked“Ajax” I have removed some of the points from its base but packed together for safe shipping. The lightning rod has a round metal stand. Shows rust but in good condition. WEATHER VANE: Antique Washburn Eagle. Gilded Copper, Late 1800's. 27.24" x 23.5" This is a terrific Weather Vane featuring a gilded Eagle perched on a globe with his wings outstretched and his arrow beneath which I acquired years ago at Medford Circle. West of Nashua New Hampshire. I am as sure as I can be that this Eagle was made by E.G. Washburn& Company of New York in the late 1800's. Below is an image of an almost identical Eagle auctioned in the last few years. And attributed as I have attributed the present one, by one of the large houses in New York City: The distinguishing characteristic of the lowered head is the same in both Eagles. The seams in our Eagle are all joined with a wide solder. In a more crude fashion, as can be expected in an earlier vane. Most of the gilding has been worn away. Especially on the ... moretop surfaces of the wings, tail and back, which were naturally more subject to weathering forces. A coat of verdigris had developed on most of the exposed surfaces, but the verdigris does not cover the solder joints, as the latter are not copper. This is a tell for authenticity. The post below the ball is worn and the bottom of the sleeve is split. Exhibiting wear according to its term of use from spinning round and round on the mount for many years. A few of the very ends of the fletchings of the arrow are bent as expected wear. T he small screw which holds the arrow in place is a later replacement But on the whole. This Eagle is in very good antique condition and he still turns proudly on his supporting rod. As our Eagle stands on his wooden support. He is 27 1/4 inches tall and 23 1/2 inches long. His wingspan is 20 inches. The end of the arrow rod is sealed. The photos give a very good idea of the beauty and power of this fine Antique Eagle Weather Vane. If you should have any questions. Five Antique 60 Inch Copper Lightning Rods with Steel Bases Salvaged from a house built in 1891 Wire clamps say"PAT JULY 12 1910" These rods come from the home of Johann Penner. A 19th century Russian Mennonite immigrant to south-central Kansas(the house is being dismantled) Rods and bases are in very good usable condition with two caveats: one copper rod has a small crack in it(see photo) and two steel bases have one foot partially broken off(see photo) Copper rods are smooth and clean with a beautiful variegated blue green patina I can provide additional photos or answer any questions you might have. Antique Stagecoach Sheet Metal Weathervane
Up for auction is an antique stagecoach weathervane. Hand cut out of 1/6th inch sheet metal. Reins are soldered on. Lots of detail work on the passengers, horse and driver. Coated with some kind of grey primer which has kept the weathervane from rusting except along the cut edges. The vertical shaft is pitted with age but solid. The base is almost 16" the stage and horses is 15-1/2" 9" from the drivers hat to the bottom of the base. The shaft adds 6-3/4" A great piece of Americana. Good luck in your bidding. Up for auction is cool antique copper lightning rod w/base. This rustic piece has light verdigris green paint and stands approximately 15.5" tall and 10" wide at the base. There is a slight bend at the top of the spike that can be seen in picture#5. I have not cleaned this piece and there is paint missing. Antique Embossed Natioanl Lightening Rod Transparent Amber Blall
This is an old Amber Transparent Embossed National Lightening Rod Globe. It is about 5 1/4" diameter and the inner rim of the mouth is 1 1/8th diameter. The ball is in good condition-need cleaning of residue inside and the mouth on the top has chips and the bottom mouth has a large chip that end at the edge of the ball. Please see all pic's.
