Antique Star Burst Weathervane Lightning Rod Topper Nova Flare, Brass Finial End
This great looking star burst brass lightning rod topper has it's original patina. I could find no makers mark. But these are not seen anymore and I think it dates back to the late 1800's. The star tips are sharp and I just can tell it's very old. This is being sold in antique condition, as shown in the photos. Nothing is hidden. The star burst topper is 8 3/4 inches high and 4 3/8 inches wide at the star. This is a very decorative topper and I'm sure it was more expensive than the norm when originally sold.

It looks like a wrought iron but with the green on it I can’t tell if it was painted or possible copper turned green. It measures about 8 ¾” long by 4” wide and is in as-found condition so some of the points are bent. Most of my items are estate finds so I have no way of knowing if they came from a smoke free or pet free house. Keep this in mind if you are overly sensitive. This lovely old weathervane topper is made of two sheets of copper which have been formed on a mold to create dimension and detail. Then soldered together with ears applied. We found this handsome fellow in an old barn, covered with dust(cliche, but true! in New Hampshire. Displays beautifully. We had a hard time listing him as he does look amazing in our home! Okay onward. Measures: Horse is 28"L x 13 1/2"H. Total 14" H(with support bar) Support bar is 31" L x 1/2" Diameter Condition: Really good considering he's been sitting outdoors then in a dusty old barn for years. We expected. Antique Large Copper Architectural Finial Banner Weathervane AAFA Connecticut
Today we are offering a very rare piece of Americana. We have an architectural finial built in the form of a banner style weathervane! We are not sure if it's base rotated as the wind blew or if it was in a fixed position. Could have been either. This finial bears the initial's C.P. We purchased it from a gentlemen who said he got it many years ago from a sale with items from the Charles Phelps estate in Connecticut. Charles was a famous for being the first attorney general of that state. We have reached out to numerous sources looking for any pictures of his home with this finial in it. We did find one picture of mansion that included a side shot of his gate house. While not conclusive. We believe we can see it on the roof of that building. We do know that this finial was built for someone of prominence and wealth and dates to the ... morelate 19th or early 20th century. This was handmade finial constructed by a craftsman of the day. The whole piece is constructed from copper. We did a small scratch under the green verdigris surface and we can see the copper. The larger tubular parts are made from 2 separate molded copper pieces soldered together as are the various balls. The banner is made from sheet copper. The initials C.P. are cutout. This finial/weathervane has a custom designed museum mount/base that it rests on. We have included some info in regards to Charles Phelps. We want to add that we do not have conclusive evidence that this piece was owned by him. However. We do have verbal attribution from the previous collector. Also given his position with the local and state community, this would certainly be the type of piece someone of his stature would use to highlight his property. Not a piece the common person of the day would have owned. The piece measures 31" wide and about 62" inches tall. Zinc Antique James Lightning Rod Weathervane Glass Ball Cone & Finial Old Paint
For your consideration an antique James lightning rod and weathervane. All the parts are authentic and appear to be original to the set-up. I purchase it at an old suburban farm yard sale many years back. The steel cross arrow and James logo are flanked buy a full bodied zinc cow at the other end of the 32-1/4 inch horizontal. It has a 5-1/2 inch. Zinc, cone base-cover and a hollow zinc finial. The dark amber glass ball is 4-1/2 inches in diameter. It stands 33-1/2 inches tall. The black and gold painted surface must be at least 50-60 years old. The condition is very good. I can only see a slight dent in one side of the cow. The glass ball is in great shape as are the cone and finial. It doesn't appear to have any old repairs. It's held together with cotter pins to keep it lined-up. Description ANTIQUE LIGHTNING ROD WEATHERVANE FINIAL Striking and unusual antique solid brass lightning rod or weathervane finial measuring 4-1/4" tall by 5-1/4" wide. Featuring a three-dimensional fish(guessing salmon) Complete with fins, gills and fan tail, it is covered in tiny scales and mounted to a sturdy pike with solid foot- I don't think the mount hole is threaded. Bearing original old gilding, paint has worn and darkened with age to a rich, bronze color. Condition is very nice with no breaks, chips or damage- one side has lost more of the gold paint and is a bit more dull- there is verdigris within the lines of the tail and here and there within the tiny scale edges- lots of fine scratching, scuffing and general wear associated with being exposed to the elements- I removed the white spot on the fin after the photos ... morewere taken(it was a dot of paint) Heavy, solid and so unusual, this would have mounted to the top of an iron spike on a barn roof top to protect the building from lightning strikes. Antique Copper Horse Weathervane Finial Topper Patinaed Original
Nice old weather vane in pretty decent condition. The tail has a sag.definitely can be fixed but I'll leave that up to the new owner. The horse is 29" long and 14" high. Great piece of early Americana ready for display or use.
