Or if it was used as a weathervane? Maybe it was used as a sign. It is durable and well made, perhaps made in railroad metal shop of scrap steel. Smokestack is created in two parts with added metal giving the look of a folk art piece. I have included photos of front and back which details the reinforcing metal parts comprising the piece. Here is a nice excellent condition antique lightning rod glass ball. It is amber with etched stars all over. The openings both have ground glass and there is some small bubbles in the glass. One end opening is perfect, the other has a couple very small nicks on the edge, these are very minor, there are no other chips, no cracks and it is nice and clear, as you can see. I purchased this fantastic piece of Americana from a farm estate sale in Puxico. Missouri. The cow weathervane is made of single thickness galvanized steel. The cow had been painted the traditional BARN RED sometime back in history. The cow does have a bullet hole as can be seen in the photos and does have a couple of dents where it appears some bullets did not penetrate the steel. The cow appears to be homemade and most likely made in the farmer's shop. The LARGE folk art primitive cow weathervane measures 35 inches long from tip of the cow's tail to the tip of the arrow.and the center pole measures 17.5 inches tall. 2 Vintage Lightning Rod Glass Globes - Purple Tint
Here are two old(possibly antique) lightning rod glass globes with a purple tint. One is clear and the other is similar to milk glass. Both have chipped openings. The clear globe has a small bubble near one of the openings. It shows two seams where the glass was molded. The"milky" globe shows no seams. Both show some discoloration around the openings where they have rubbed against a metal rod. Width of each globe is approximately 4-1/2" Thanks for looking. I ship only in the United States.

Up for auction here is 5 Robbins 28-A Lightning rods and 124' of braided copper wire in 5 pcs. The lightning rods are about 18" tall and are in very good condition fresh off the roof of our house they have lots of patina. They are still hooked to the 1/2" braided wire. I removed one to weight it. One of the screws broke off in it. The wire is 3/8 to 1/2 diameter braided copper ground wire. There are 5 pieces 45' 41'28' and a 7' and 5' piece. The wire has some frays in it and white paint in some spots the u shaped brackets are still on the wire that hold it to the roof. There is also 1 splice clamp. Very Rare, Early Vintage, NOS, 3.5" Wine Glass Lightning Rod Ball, Embossed Rim
This is a very rare 3.5" Wine Glass Ball with fluted ribs. It is NOS and is in its original cardboard box/cover. It looks to have the correct embossing on rim. You can clearly make out"PAT JULY 3rd 77" This came out of my Grandparents Estate. He was an electrician and rod installer from roughly 1940-1980. This was packed up in his barn with other items. Also. I sold the another of this type ball awhile back to a collector and he confirmed it authenticity. So, with all that, I'm confident that this is an original and not a reproduction. These rods were burnished and laquered at one time and are in various stages of shinyness. The height of the rods are all similar within the range of 65 to 67 inches. This fabulous piece stands a whopping 9 feet tall on it's mounting bracket and the horse is 41"long. The horse, the ball, and the spearhead at the top of the Weather Vane still maintain about 90% of the original gold guild paint. Because of the size and weight of the horse, the head is made out of cast iron to balance it while on the roof. This is an antique weathervane straight from New England. This handcrafted piece depicts the infamous horse pulling a doctor in a buggy. This 19th century folk art. It is well weathered and shows a nice patina. The horse and buggy measures 26" long and 13" tall. The base that the horse and buggy is attached to appears to have been replaced and repaired at some point. This is expected with the age of the piece. Old Rare Original MUNSON Lightning Rod Weathervane & Glass Ball Farm Hardware
Here we have for sale an old original glass lightning rod ball. You are buying the ball on the left only. These are very rare Munson Lightning Rod Co. glass balls. The right ball is complete. With glass threaded tube and zinc threaded caps. The ball on the left is the same but doesn't have the tube or the caps. You can see in the pictures, the stained circle areas where the caps sat. These type balls have extra wide collar openings and little or no collars. This is intentional in manufacturing. The skirted cap screws down over the tube and rides against the shoulder of the ball. This type of glass ball was patented by Alvin J. Munson in 1887. Original zinc caps carry the name and patent date. These are rare balls and you don't find any parts much less complete balls much anymore. This ball was found here in South Central Ky. this ... morepast Thursday. It is 110% original, untouched, as found on a roof. No damage at all. All the staining is as mother nature put it. There was no caps or tube present. This is a rare piece and you won't be disappointed.

Vintage Weather Vane Horse & Wagon Stagecoach with Directions Metal Antique
You are bidding on a vintage metal weathervane. It has a horse and wagon/stagecoach at the top and the directions in the middle. It is made of metal and is a weathered black/gray color. The top piece measures 21" long and 8" high. One side of the horse has a broken tip. As shown in one of the photos. The bottom section measures about 22" tall, with the directional about 13" across. The tip of the bottom section is a little bent, but I didn't want to risk bending it back. The top still fits on fine, but just at a slight angle. This is a good, guaranteed vintage, weather vane.

Antique folk art cow weathervane 1900's James A10B ruby globe copper & zinc
This weathervane has all the character and patina a collector could want. Fortunately it has some old west style bullet holes that gives it an even more unique appearance. The ruby red globe is without cracks or repairs. It is stamped A10B. I have no idea what that means. This piece will be packed with extreme care and sent to the new owner without any shipping or handling charges if it goes to someone in the contiguous United States. Alaska and Hawaii will be charged $30.00. I will answer questions to the best of my ability. The fittings are worn from age and use, so it will need to be tightened up if it is put to practical use. Then just hit the BACK button and don't even go any further. This isn't an antique. But it has some age on it, and it was most likely used on a barn roof, most likely a dairy barn. It spins free and smoothly! It measures about 12" tall. 12" wide on the INSIDE of the base. And the turbine itself about 17" across. It's made primarily of aluminum. The big round piece on top is aluminum, the base is galvanized steel, but the small piece in the center of the top is plastic. It has some slight bending/dings here and there. But it's generally in nice shape to be older and used. I'm using the postage calculator on this. And sometimes it charges too much for postage. If you win, expect to pay whatever it states in the auction, and after it's shipped I will try to catch it if there is a substantial difference. If I don't please contact me. Kretzer Twisted Lightning Rod Polished Lacquered Bayonet Tip Scrolly Iron Stand
This is a gorgeous and fully restored antique Kretzer twisted iron rod in a black wrought iron stand. The rod was blasted clean and all copper and brass hardware polished and lacquered including the magnificent brass bayonet point/ top that had the KRETZER name deeply imprinted. RESERVE PRICE $125 This rod includes one very good condition Amber colored lightning rod ball. The blue and red balls shown are not included but can be substituted for the Amber ball for a charge of $25 and $50 respectively. This rod stands 36 inches tall and the bayonet tip/ point is VERY pointy. This is a lovely. Colorful piece of Americana that would be equally beautiful in your living room or on your roof!
