This item measures just less than 3 inches long and was uncovered while digging for antique bottles. The insulator portion has an outside diameter of just over one inch and an inside diameter of about 5/8 of an inch. It was probably used to insulate the wires of lightning rods. Antique 1860's 1870's J.H. Weston Lightning Rod Glass Insulator Farm Barn
Here we have for sale a hard to find style of lightning rod insulator. As you can see this one is used and abused but it's still a surviver. It is embossed just above the mounting ring J.H. WESTON CIN. O. The embossed is pretty darn good for this style which is usually quite weak. Color is a blue-aqua. As for damage there's a few flakes around the tie wire openings and a nice no glass missing bruise on the base rim. I imagine there was one too many blows driving the nail home and the base paid the price. The original cast iron mounting collar has one ear broke off. The collar is stuck tight on the glass from 140 years of rusting. Despite the damage, this piece displays darn good. I have for auction a beautiful Green glass lightning rod ball/ globe. It measures approx 5.5" the openings are approx. 1 1/4" on the outside and 1" on the inside of the hole. I see the bubbles in the glass as well as the dimples too that just shows how old this is. It could use a cleaning but will leave that up to the winning bidder. I do not see any cracks or chips except around the openings(see pics) nothing to bad. If you have the caps they will cover the chips on the ends. Blue Glass Lightning Rod Insulator 4 1/2" Robin Sky Swirl Vintage Antique
This lightning rod insulator came from a dairy farm North of Emporia. Kansas. It is owned by an old friend of mine who is a professor at the university. It measures 4 1/2 inches in diameter and has no chips, cracks, or scratches other than a few very slight ones around the stem. As you can see in the picture, they in no way detract from the overall beauty of the piece. It is really in exceptional shape for having survived a hundred years of hailstorms and Kansas wind. Old 10 Paneled Lightning Rod Insulator/ Milki Glass / Patent Pending /Other Mark
An old 10 paneled 4" diameter x 5" long( from unfinished end to unfinished end) white milk glass lightning rod insulator. On 2 panels at one end is"Patent Pending" on one panel at opposite end is a diamond shape with numbers or letters inside. Can't make out. Ends were covered with metal caps so they were not smoothed in manufacture. One end has fresher chips- not offensive as it would be covered buy a cap. No other visible damage. Inside diameter is 7/8" so I guess it would slip down a rod of that size. Hard to find Item! Here is a small old glass lightning rod ball in SCA or sun colored amethyst. It is very faintly embossed on one side"PATD. JULY 77" The embossed side is in the first pic. Not sure if it will show up. It is a bit dirty, and has some old red paint on it from many years ago. It is not cracked or broken, no bullet holes, just the collar chipping which is typical on these older pieces. Check the pics as they are part of the description. Measures approx. 3 1/2 inches in diameter. It weighs 1 pound, and will ship via Priority mail. Antique Lightning Rod, Ceramic Insulator And Arrow With Orange Glass Pane
This vintage lightning rod was found in an old house in Inman. SC. Because of its age, it is quite rusty, but the ceramic insulator, arrow, and glass pane have no rust. There are two almost identical chips in the insulator, one at the top and one at the bottom. I showed one of these in a picture. Please feel free to ask questions or to see more pics. Lightning Rod Insulator and Screw in Holder
Up for auction is a nice old lightning rod insulator with its original screw in holder. The insulator is 1-3/4" in height and 7/8" up to the groove. It is 1-7/16" diameter at the bottom and 1-5/8" at the top. It has minor chipping around the base which is typical of these. No cracks. Neither the insulator or the holder are embossed. A nice piece of lightning protection. Everything we sell is authentic and we sell no color or otherwise altered items. PA residents, please add 6% sales tax.
