This weathervane was definitely very ornate for its time. It is cast iron with an arrow at the tip and a rectangle for a stained glass insert at the other end. The glass is missing however it can be replaced. The metal tabs to hold the glass are present. Although I couldn't find a maker's mark. I believe this was made by K retzer. The weathervane is in good condition and ready to be restored. Good project for someone who is enjoys restoring vintage items. ANTIQUE c.1900 CAST IRON and COPPER WEATHER VANE ARROW 28 1/2" LENGTH Great old cast iron weather vane directional arrow. Figural arrow has a center double loop where it can be placed on a lightening rod or pole. The opposing end of the arrow is thick copper and was made so an animal or figure could be mounted to it. The cast iron arrow and copper rod are riveted together in the center. This appears to be all original and is all very old but solid and free of cracks or damage. Some typical pitting in the cast iron as shown. The overall length is 28 1/2" With the arrow portion measuring about 16 inches long and the copper rod portion measuring about 12 1/2 inches long. From a local estate. Here is a beautiful old cast iron weather vane arrow, would have fit on the old rooftop lightning rod on a house or barn. Overall length is 18.5" about 4" top to bottom. I'm guessing this was refinished at some point. The black paint looks too shiny and was probably applied over a rusty original, and the glass panel doesn't look right, probably a replacement. FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION are Two Vintage Parts of Two Separate ANTIQUE WEATHER VANES. THE COW is made of molded tin and halved together. It came off an Old Barn in Northern Maine. It dates back to the Early 1900's- this one in particular was made between 1900 and 1917 I would dare say. Measures approximately 9" inches by 6" inches by 1" inch. THE ARROW is as old but probably older than the Cow. Measures 16" inches.

Old antique weather vane lightning rod arrow ornate cast iron Kretzer
Estate sale find. No cracks or missing cast iron. Included is the original brass bushing(the screw backs out just enough to slip over a pole) The screw that holds the missing piece of glass is brass and I could not loosen it with damage but. You can just bend the tab to insert new glass. 23" long by 4 1/2" by tail. The bushing is about 7/8' inside diameter and the hole in the cast iron is about 1" in diameter. Iam pleased to offer this early 1800s cast iron lightning rod directional arrow that came from a barn in one of my picks this summer. It measures 14 1/2" long and 2 1/4" at the widest point on the arrow. It is weathered beautifully for age and has many little dimples from many years of service and has no breaks.
