Large Antique Copper Horse Weathervane Running Race Cast Metal Zinc Weather Vane
This is a really nice antique copper running horse weathervane with a solid cast metal( lead/zinc)head. Fine Patina is evidence of years in the weather. No idea of age. This beautiful piece was taken from a barn roof in PA. Found at a local estate. The man having the sale said as a boy his family bought a farm and this horse weather vane was on the barn. He said they lived there for 20 years and when they moved his father took it with them. The horse does not appear to have been cleaned or polished and shows the work of nature. I did wipe it down. The horse's head is made of zinc/lead I'm told and the body is hand formed from heavy copper and hot lead soldered together into this fine looking horse. The piece is 17" from top of the ear to the top of the pipe, The pipe is 33" long and weighs over 8 pounds. Nice detail in proper ... morehorse anatomy with muscles and veins showing. Head, eyes and mouth are so realistic. This piece is as good as I have seen and in marvelous condition with no cracks, dents or other distractions. A great piece for the barn or house roof or used inside mounted as a classic primitive. Make sure you use the zoom feature to see the great detail. Weather Vane: Antique High-Stepping Horse, Painted Iron, 33" Tall x 31.5" Wide
Weather Vane: Antique High-Stepping Horse, Painted Iron. 33" Tall x 31.5" Wide This is a really handsome Weather Vane featuring a high-stepping horse. I acquired him on a visit to South Dakota to see a friend with whom I was at university. The Horse and his Arrow are both made of heavy gage iron and seem to have several coats of paint. He is quite large and impressive. And it is a little difficult to make out his complicated patina with the different layers of paint. I think you can see this best in the details of the Horse's head and tail. As he stands now on his wooden stand. He is 33 inches tall and 30 1/2 inches wide. The Horse himself is 18 3/4 inches tall from his hooves to the top of his ears, and 24 inches long from the front of his raised leg to the tip of his flying tail. The arrow is 31 1/2 inches long, and is made ... moreof quarter inch iron. On one side he has a heavy strap support which is bolted on. And on the other side he has two sturdy holders for his support rod. They are also bolted. And both the holders and support strap are made of iron. The support rod was with the Horse when I first met hm, but I do not think he is as old as the Horse. I added the bit of hollow black steel and a copper footing at the bottom of the support rod to give the figure more visual stability. And I made the wooden stand from a piece of old beam when our barn home was reconstructed. This horse has always seemed to me to have both a noble and very cheerful feeling about him. With his high-stepping, his flying tail and his grin, which is still visible on one side. The other side seems to have suffered more wear and the smile has all but disappeared there. I am almost positive that this Horse is the work of some local craftsman. Rather than a mass producted piece. And my best guess is that he probably dates to the early years of the last century. I particualry enjoy the lyrically abstract treatment of his mane and terrific tail. The unusual double curl at the end of the arrow, where the fletchings would otherwis

Vintage Weather Vane Horse & Wagon Stagecoach with Directions Metal Antique
You are bidding on a vintage metal weathervane. It has a horse and wagon/stagecoach at the top and the directions in the middle. It is made of metal and is a weathered black/gray color. The top piece measures 21" long and 8" high. One side of the horse has a broken tip. As shown in one of the photos. The bottom section measures about 22" tall, with the directional about 13" across. The tip of the bottom section is a little bent, but I didn't want to risk bending it back. The top still fits on fine, but just at a slight angle. This is a good, guaranteed vintage, weather vane.

ANTIQUE 25 INCH BRONZE NEW ENGLAND HORSE WEATHER VANE
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This beautiful bit of history was acquired a number of years ago from an estate sale in Denver. Colorado, but was not used here. It came from a barn or house somewhere on the East Coast in close proximity to the ocean which accounts for the beautiful green patina which covers its surface. The non ferrous metal of which the vane is constructed is bronze and the salt water air blowing in against it over the years has created its wonderful look. The arrow measures 25 inches and the cutout horse figure is 8-1/4 inches long and 7-1/2 inches high. The horse and the arrow’s feathers are 1/8 inch thick. The point of the arrow is a bit thicker and somewhat dimensional. The shaft of the arrow. And the upright tubing to which the compass points are attached, is 5/8 inch copper tubing. The letters…N ... moreE S W… are just under 2 inches high. The vane is still attached to the original piece of wood which was probably a part of the roof structure. That piece of wood may look like a lumberyard 2x4 but is actually tapered and hand hewn. Which attests to its age. The smaller piece of wood nailed to the larger was added just to keep it from tipping over where it was placed on a shelf and will be removed. The two iron bolts are original. And will be included, though one may be removed for shipping. The vane will be shipped as two parts(plus the 2 bolts) in very secure packaging. Probably a custom-made container, for a flat $15.00.

I am told these are common place now- except when they are handmade copper over 70 years old and probably well over 100 years old. This is a Horse and carriage/surrey with driver in copper. In excellent/mint condition. This came off a barn in Georgetown County SC from an old plantation. The North. South, East and West markers are included though not shown- I think they are brass. Antique Vintage Horse Weather Vane Folk Art Original Paint Barn Lightning Rod
Lovely piece of folk art. This vintage weather vane is painted brown, with black mane and eye and harness with rose on one side. There is a jagged hole right on the center of the rose on the harness where this was probably hit with a shot of some kind. There are no other dents or cracks. 11 inches wide by 9-1/2 inches high. I am not sure what type of metal this is made of. But it is non-magnetic. Perhaps old zinc? There are a couple of very small scuffs on the paint where the metal underneath looks like a dull gray. The metal is hollow and not too heavy. The horse weighs 6.9 oz. Two of the hooves have holes in the back where this was attached to the rest of the weathervane. I was told it was made in the 1800's it was on an old barn that was built in the 1800's so it most likely was the original weather vane put there when it was built. The horses ears are missing,it needs some minor fixes,some parts need welded,there is a crack in the base& the end piece of the base is missing but it still is usable, in all its in great shape for its age and the fact that it was in use until recently. Antique or vintage weathervane that I believe is an earlier version of this type. The soldered seams are on the crude side with lots of tarnish and patina. I'll keep my age estimate pretty wide to be safe and say early 20th century to the depression. There is some oxidation also. The driver seams to have the most. From the front pipe to the back of the wheel is about 32" Several non distracting type dents that are normal for this age but the wheels are pretty bent. They do bend easy to fix. Off hand I see 4 spots where this piece needs to be spot soldered, it's only attached at the vertical bar. The bottom of one wheel to the pipe, the end of one spoke(I did that bending the wheels) and the 2 rear feet get soldered to the pipe. You can see where both feet where attached. You are looking at an antique weather vane horse on an arrow and the directional pieces. The horse rest on a long bolt that is pointed on the end so the horse moves to point the direction of the wind. This bold is not attached to the bottom piece so you will need to do something to keep it in place. It does not have a mounting bracket. If you make a mounting bracket or stand that would solve the bolt problem. The horse. Arrow, and directional pieces are made of cast aluminum. The center piece is a pipe. The arrow is 24" long. WEATHER VANE: Antique Horse. Painted Iron. 19" Tall x 31.5" Wide This is a really wonderful Weather Vane featuring a trotting Horse and a very long arrow. I acquired him on a visit to South Dakota to see a friend with whom I was at university. The Horse and his Arrow and the Directionals are all made of heavy gauge iron and seem to have several coats of paint and a good deal of rust which makes for a complex and beautiful patina. The Supporting Rod is also iron As he stands now on his wooden stand. He is 19 inches tall and 30 1/2 inches wide. The Horse himself is 6 1/2 inches tall from his hooves to the top of his ears, and 13 1/2 inches long from the front of his raised leg to the tip of his flying tail. The arrow is 22 3/4 inches long, and the Directionals, 18 inches long. I am almost positive that this Horse is the work of some ... morelocal craftsman. Rather than a mass produced piece. The turning device is beautifully and sturdily made with a hollow 3 inch thick walled shaft which slips over a smaller solid iron rod at the top of the Supporting Rod. My best guess is that this Vane probably dates to the early years of the last century. The surface is completely stable. And, apart from the obvious bend in the part of the Arrow on which Horse is attached, there is no damage to the Horse or the rest of the Vane. And he still turns cheerfully on his Rod. The photographs give an excellent idea of the quality and appeal of this wonderful example of American Primitive Art. If you should have any questions. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
