This ball is marked"NATIONAL" in raised lettering. It has the typical chips on the top and the bottom that covers with copper caps that protect it and makes a tight fit to the 5/8" lightning rod. It has all the swirls and small bubbles in the milk glass that you should expect to see in an early ball. Antique Lightening Balls This auction is for a really nice pair of antique lightening rod balls made from a thin. Delicate milk glass. One of them is near pure white and it’s embossed National on the front. It has some damage to the top edge which is common on these pieces. The other has a purple tint that might just be from 100 years of sun exposure and it’s marked ELECTRA on the front. Has some minor chipping as well at the top but lots of times they were manufacture with those chips. Great set and guaranteed old. Measure about 4½" wide. Pair of old National Lightning Protection Company white glazed pottery/ceramic. Staircase pattern lightning rod balls. They measure 4 inches from end to end,and 4" across the center of ball. The balls have flat ends and did not use caps. The ends have thin chipping around the circumference. There are a few glaze pops. The Ribbed Grape pattern features three rows of circles with ribbed panels above and below. The ball has 18 circles in the center row. The pattern was produced by different manufacturers, I believe this one is a National Lightening Protection Co ball as the Fenton balls measure smaller. The piece measures 5 1/2" high. 4 1/2" in diameter and weighs 9.8 oz. The piece has chips and fleabites around the fitter ends which is extremely common. Probably milk glass, this ball does not have a pattern but is embossed with the word"NATIONAL" across the front, there are no metal caps on the upper or lower edges, both edges are well chipped and are blackened possibly from a previous lightning strike, I'm sure caps would still secure to the ball with some proper adhesive, measures approximately 5" from top to bottom edges and has about a 4 1/2" diameter. Antique Brass & Copper Lightning Rod Tips Points Spires NATIONAL (6)
Here are six(6) antique lightning rod tips or spires. The three screw-on tips are made of brass. And the other three are made of copper. Two of the non-screw on tips are marked"National Pure Copper. The three that do not screw on are approximately 7 1/4" in length. The tallest screw-on tip measures approximately 10" in length, and the other screw-on that is not bent measures approximately 8 5/8" in length. There is a little bend to the 10" spire at the tip; there is a lot of discoloration to one of the tips that does not screw on(and this one has a little bluntness at the tip) they all show the expected wear; one of the screw-ons is bent; and some of them have green discoloration. This is a blue milk glass"National Round" pattern lightning rod ball. The lettering is crisp and sharp and the collars are in perfect condition as collectors consider them. The ball is in amazing condition with no chips or cracks. The color is nice beautiful medium blue with a small bit of staining on the ends of the collars from being up on a house for so many years.
