Vintage Folk Art Weathervane (50's-60's), Dog Motif
The folks we bought our 1925 house from moved here in the late 1950's. And according to neighbors they promptly took down the original weathervane and put this one up. I don't know much about it other than it is in pretty decent shape for its age, has a dog motif, and a pretty simple folk art feel to it. I'd conservatively put the vintage on it to the late 50's, early 60's in that case.

Up for bidding is this unique hunter and hunting dog weathervane. Great weathervane just came into the shop with lots of patina. The rear fin needs to be set back in place and secured. The front point has some bends in the metal. It appears to have been red in color at some point. There is dings. Scratching, paint loss, rusting, etc. Pictures give best description. Antique Hunting Dog Weathervane/circa 1900-1920
This is a really sweet. Antique sheet iron weathervane of a hunting dog. I would say it dates to the early 1900s- 1900 to 1920 or so. It could even be earlier. I don't see any evidence of old paint, so I assume this is the original, now quite weathered, surface. There is a rod that extends forward on the mounting fixture. I don't know what that was for but the end of it is through the mounting piece and seems to have a finished end nib where it come out the other side, indicating to me that it is not broken, and meant only to extend forward. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the directionals. Overall the vane is 27" long, including the rod. It is 14&1/2" high from the end of the mounting pole to the top of the dog's head. From the tip of the dog's nose to the end of the base it sits on is about 17. The mounting ... morepole is 6" long and is attached to the base with a single old rivit. Condition of the vane is as found and as shown. There is an old break where the front foot meets the base(see pictures) I believe it's an easy fix- a quick weld will do the trick. The edges of the iron are beautifully smooth- indicating excellent age and exposure to the elements. I guarantee this is not a fake or recent reproduction and will take it back if the buyer is not satisfied that it is right. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a genuine antique vane from the the first part of the 20th century. Please look at all my photos for the best idea of condition. US ship only. Huge Vintage 52" Howard Johnson Weathervane Simple Simon/Dog/Pastry Chef Pie Man
This looks much better against the sky. Upper section with the boy and dog-Simple Simon-and the pie man is 51 3/4" wide by 36" tall from the arrow feathers to the chef. Mount extends out the bottom another 9 3/4" It is made of 3/16" steel other than the mounting shaft. This piece alone weighs 38 lbs. The N S E W indicator is 35" end of letter to end of letter and the letters are 7 3/8" They are 3/16" steel also. The solid steel rods the letters are attached to is 1/2" diameter. The main shaft the weathervane slips into is 1 1/4" diameter. Total height from bottom of letters to top of rod is 20 1/2" Shaft has 14 1/2" long rising up from the center, 2 3/4" coming out the bottom. Shaft was cut on the bottom to remove it from the Howard Johnsons. These usually sat on a globe which i ... moredo not have. This is a dog vane that is from the 1950's This was on the shed of my Uncle's cottage here on Cape Cod. He was a pheasant hunter and he had Golden Retrievers and Cocker Spaniels. This looks like an English or Gordon Setter. MAde out of metal aluminum with old mustard duck boat brown paint. Measures 15 1/2 from end of tail to snout and 9 1/2 inches from top of head to bottom of foot. This does NOT include another 4 1/2 inches on pole base. SO adding to such it is a bit taller. WOOFS! I sold this once but the person got it and said it did not look like their dog so up it goes one more time. So please if you are buying this because it looks like your dog supposedly make sure it does as it is a hassle and costly to get things back.

Vintage Copper Pointer Dog Weathervane

This auction is for a vintage 1940's BLACK SCOTTISH TERRIER DOG weathervane/directional that was original to a home when originally purchased. This was found on the carriage house behind the main house in Royal Oak. Michigan. Guaranteed to be original and NOT reproduction. Made out of a cast iron or cast metal and being heavier in weight. Not flimsy or light-weight like the newer ones. This weathervane has older screws that hold it together. It measures gnerously at 34" tall and 23 1/2" wide where the arrow is located. The N.S,E,W letters show some light wear from being in the elements, but not bad. The bottom of the vane needs a bracket or brace whereby to attach to the roof. This incredible handmade weathervane is made of s heet iron with hand riveted forged iron flattend iron rod braces. It originates from the state of Kansas and was atop a barn during the late 1800’s. The owners moved to San Diego California in the early 1940’s and the weathervane went along with them where it set atop an out building and there it remained until 1995 when the matriarch passed away at the age of 105. It was then the weathervane was acquired along with many other family treasures. By the niece. The niece and family recently had an estate sale to clear out many items that is where I found this great piece of history. It measures 42” tall overall by 26” wide at the widest. The hunter is 21” tall the dog is 7” tall. It is made of sheet iron and iron pipe and is hand riveted. The base is iron and is 4” wide and slopes 6” downward ... moreon each side. It is painted black. It is rusty and is pitted from decades of inclement weather. there are no markings or signature on this piece. This very large incredible handmade weathervane is made of hand forged iron with hand riveted and hand forged iron flattend iron rod braces. It originates from the state of Kansas and was atop a barn during the late 1800’s. The owners moved to San Diego California in the early 1940’s and the weathervane went along with them where it set atop an out building and there it remained until 1995 when the matriarch passed away at the age of 105. It was then the weathervane was acquired along with many other family treasures. By the niece. The niece and family recently had an estate sale to clear out many items that is where I found this great piece of history. It measures 42” tall overall by 26” wide at the widest. The hunter is 21” tall the dog is 7” tall. It is made of sheet iron and iron pipe and is hand riveted. The base is iron and is 4” wide ... moreand slopes 6” downward on each side. It is painted black. It is rusty and is pitted from decades of inclement weather. there are no markings or signature on this piece.
